It went viral last week that Ghanaian beautiful actress Nadia Buari has rejected a whopping $75,000 deal from Avante Grande because of bleaching. The story was stated in a press statement released by Nadia’s PR but according to the manager for the cream, the award-winning actress did not reject the offer but she rather wanted $75000 instead of the $60,000 they were willing to give her.

Team Network Ghana reports that

General Manager of Avant Claire Grande Afrique, Christopher Owen has come out to demystify rumors concerning the $75,000 endorsement deal rejected by Nadia Buari as speculated in reports.

Chris told ‘The Juice Report’ his company offered the actress they chose out of many a total sum of $60,000 which she turned down after Avant declined a $15,000 raise she and her management requested for during negotiations, he added that Nadia’s retreat had nothing to do with the said bleaching chemicals.

Christopher concluded saying Avant Claire is still interested in penning Nadia Buari because her brand remains relevant and is in demand by the market.

3  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / FG Withdraws Charges Against Mohammed Abacha Over N100bn Scam on: 18-06-2014 06:36 PM

A Federal Capital Territory High Court, on Wednesday, discharged Mohammed Abacha, son of late former Military Head of State , General Sani Abacha, for allegedly receiving N100.38 billion worth of stolen property.

It was gathered that the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, on behalf of the Federal Government, had filed a nine-count charge against Abacha.

But Justice Mamman Kolo of the FCT High Court discharged Abacha after Federal Government’s Counsel, Daniel Enwelum, made an oral application asking the court to withdraw the criminal charges against the suspect.

The judge also granted the application for discontinuation of trial, which was not opposed by the defense counsel, Mr Abdullahi Haruna.

At the resumed hearing of the case, the Federal Government counsel told the court that he was instructed by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to withdraw the charges.

Enwelum argued that the application became necessary in view of emerging facts and circumstances of the case.

The prosecution thereafter filed a notice of discontinuation of the case.

It would be recalled that Enwelum was hired by government to prosecute the case to its logical conclusion.

The AGF alleged that Abacha had received property worth N100.38 billion between 1995 and 1998, which was acquired unlawfully by the father and later forfeited to government.

lMohammed Abacha is the eldest surviving son of Nigeria’s former de facto President, the late general Sani Abacha and Maryam Abacha.

During his father’s military rule, Mohammed Abacha was involved in looting the government.

A preliminary report published by the Abdulsalam Abubakar transitional government in November 1998 described the process which the Abachas used to siphoned money from national coffers.

It was revealed that the late Sani Abacha told his National Security Adviser Ismaila Gwarzo to provide fake funding requests, which Abacha approved.

The funds were usually sent in cash or travellers’ cheques by the Central Bank of Nigeria to Gwarzo Kuncnoni, who took them to Abacha’s house.

Mohammed Abacha then arranged to launder the money to offshore accounts.

It was believed that an estimated $1.4 billion in cash was delivered in this way.

6  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Pregnant Woman Kills Herself In Edo on: 18-06-2014 06:23 PM

A 2-months pregnant woman identified as Ometere Aduga reportedly committed suicide on Monday in Edo state.
The Nation reports that she hung herself with a rope which she tied to the ceiling fan in their family apartment.
The middle aged woman from Igarra, Akoko-Edo local government council of the state who was married and had a child with her husband was said to be pregnant for another man who is yet-to-be identified.
Though the reason for her committing suicide is yet unknown as she didn't drop any note, some are insinuating it has something to do with her cheating on her husband who is not resident in the state.
According to an eyewitness, Ometere had visited a private hospital in the town some days back and she had disclosed her intention to commit suicide to the hospital personnel because of the reported pregnancy but she was counselled against it and told her to come back on Monday for medical examination and more counselling.
On that fateful Monday, she had taken her son to a neighbour's house who she gave the excuse that she wanted to have her bath but after an endless wait, the neighbour decided to go check on her. When she got to the apartment, she was shocked to find her completely naked body dangling from the rope tied to the ceiling fan.
However, a source close to the family revealed that Ometere was a 300 level medical student at the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma but was asked to withdraw due to reasons, adding that she had mental disorder which she recovered from and later got married to man who is not from the area and has been living with her parents.
"One cannot really say what could have led to her committing suicide whether it was as a result of the pregnancy which is believed may not be her husband’s or a relapse of her mental illness," the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Hilary Udoh said her parents have taken her death in god faith and are not suspecting any fowl play.

8  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Professor Dayo Oyekole Arrested By NAFDAC For Selling Unregistered Herbal Drugs on: 18-06-2014 08:49 AM
The National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control, has arrested a professor for selling unregistered herbal products.
The professor identified as Dayo Oyekole claimed he obtained his doctorate degree from the University of Ibadan.
The agency alleged that the professor paraded himself as an epidemiologist and chief consultant, Mosebolatan Holistic Lifecare International.
A pamphlet advertising some of the unregistered products of the company showed that it has offices at 11,Ire-Akari Estate Road, Isolo, Lagos with its Head office at Mosebolatan Plaza, Ogbere-Tioya, Off Olorunsogo Express Bridge, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Though the pamphlets and advertisement placed on a national newspaper (not Punch) showed that 14 of the company’s herbal products had been registered with NAFDAC, the agency said the company only has four of its products listed between 2005 and 2007.
The professor in the pamphlet claimed that NAFDAC had approved natural herbal medicines, for him to cure exam failures, marital problems, bad dreams among others.
But NAFDAC’s Director-General, Dr. Paul Orhii, at a briefing on Tuesday, denied the company’s claims, lamenting that unauthorised products have dominated the market.

Orhii stated, “Recently, the agency discovered an advertisement in the a national newspaper (not Punch) edition of June 15, 2014 where Prof. Dayo Oyekole of Mosebolatan Holistic Lifecare Centre placed an unauthorised advertisement of range of herbal products with spurious claims of total cure and deliverance of various ailments. Upon investigation, a few of the products (four out of 14) were listed by NAFDAC between 2005 and 2007. Since then, the listing of the products have not been renewed as required by law. Ten out of these products have no history of listing with NAFDAC but are openly displayed for sale and being dispensed in his clinic.”

“The agency in recent times has observed the proliferation of unauthorised advertisement of herbal products in both the print and electronic media.”

Most of these adverts are misleading and carry false claims of treatment and cure of various ailments including; treatment of HIV/AIDs, hepatitis, kidney diseases drug addiction, mental sickness, marital problems, bad dreams, examination failure, asthmas, cancer, prostate enlargement among others.

“While some of these adverts carry NAFDAC number on the products advertised, investigations have shown that most of these products have not been submitted to NAFDAC for listing.”

He explained that giving registration to herbal drugs does not guarantee efficacy of such products, but showed that it was safe for consumption.
