21  Forum / Sports / "NFF Pays Foreign Coaches $50k A Month But Pay Local Coaches N1 Million" - Siasia Alleges (Vid) on: 20-04-2024 08:55 PM

In a recent revelation that has stirred controversy within Nigerian football circles, former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has alleged significant disparities in the salaries paid to foreign and local coaches by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

According to Siasia, who served as head coach of the Super Eagles on two separate occasions, foreign coaches hired by the NFF are reportedly paid a monthly salary of $50,000, while their local counterparts receive a mere fraction of that amount, averaging around N1 million.

This revelation has raised eyebrows and sparked debate over the fairness and equity of the NFF's compensation structure for coaching staff. Siasia, who has been vocal about the need for better treatment of local coaches, expressed his frustration at what he perceives as a glaring disparity in pay.

"It's unacceptable that foreign coaches are paid exorbitant salaries while our local coaches are grossly underpaid," Siasia stated in a recent interview. "We have talented coaches here in Nigeria who are just as capable, if not more, but they are not given the same opportunities or compensation."

Siasia's allegations have drawn attention to the broader issue of recognition and support for local talent within the Nigerian football ecosystem. Many have echoed his sentiments, calling for a reevaluation of the NFF's policies to ensure fair treatment and equal opportunities for all coaches, regardless of their nationality.

In response to Siasia's claims, the NFF has remained tight-lipped, with no official statement addressing the allegations thus far. However, the controversy has sparked discussions on social media platforms and among football enthusiasts, prompting calls for transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria's football affairs.

As the debate continues to unfold, stakeholders are urging the NFF to address the issue promptly and take concrete steps towards fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment for coaches at all levels of the game.

22  Forum / Law and Crime / Nigerian, Oluseun Omole Residing In Texas Convicted In Multi-Million Dollar Online Fraud Scheme on: 20-04-2024 08:42 PM

Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced the conviction of Oluseun Omole, a Nigerian residing in Texas, for his involvement in an elaborate online fraud scheme targeting American citizens.

According to a statement released by the US Attorney’s Office of the Southern District, Omole was found guilty of conspiracy to defraud American citizens, particularly through consumer electronics scams, resulting in losses exceeding $12 million.

Omole faced one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment.

Williams detailed Omole’s role within a criminal syndicate known as “Enterprise,” primarily based in Nigeria, which specialized in various online scams. The group's tactics ranged from online marketplace fraud to romance scams and fake employment opportunities.

The indictment outlined how Omole and his cohorts deceived victims into believing they were purchasing legitimate consumer electronics or engaging in romantic relationships, only to exploit their trust and affection for financial gain.

Utilizing his business corporation, "Tobylink Impressions," Omole orchestrated the receipt and redistribution of fraudulently obtained goods, shipping them to associates in Nigeria for profit.

During the trial, Omole pleaded guilty before Judge Katharine Parker, admitting his involvement in the fraudulent activities spanning from February 2018 to March 2023.

Williams emphasized the extensive impact of Omole's crimes, affecting thousands of victims who believed they were interacting with genuine buyers, lovers, or potential employers. Instead, their possessions were funneled directly to Omole and his associates overseas.

As part of his plea agreement, Omole agreed to pay restitution and forfeit seized assets, including currency and consumer electronics, pending court orders.

Omole is set to be sentenced by US District Judge Jesse Furman on July 30, 2024. Williams reiterated that individuals involved in such fraudulent schemes would face significant prison sentences, emphasizing the severity of the consequences for their actions.

35  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / IMF Urges Nigeria To Remove Fuel Subsidies: Here's Why on: 20-04-2024 01:27 PM

Amidst ongoing discussions at the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in Washington DC, the IMF has provided insights into its stance on Nigeria's fuel subsidy regime, urging the country to remove subsidies due to their adverse impact on the economy.

Abebe Selassie, Director of the African Department of the Fund, emphasized that fuel subsidies disproportionately benefit the wealthy while burdening the poor, making it a regressive policy. Selassie highlighted the need for subsidy reform, stating that the funds allocated to subsidies could be redirected to improve conditions for vulnerable segments of society.

"In Nigeria, the people pay for these subsidies, but the benefits tend to accrue more to the rich than to the poor and vulnerable," Selassie explained. "Subsidy reform is important to ensure resources are used to provide social protection for the most vulnerable households."

While acknowledging Nigeria's efforts to reduce the extent of subsidies, Selassie commended the direction towards subsidy removal and emphasized the importance of utilizing resources for social protection programs.

Additionally, Selassie revealed that the IMF has provided $58 billion to African countries since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, pledging continued support. However, he cautioned against commercial loans for refinancing due to the current rate hike in most economies. Instead, Selassie advised African countries to focus on domestic resource mobilization to address debt service challenges effectively.

The IMF's position underscores the need for Nigeria to prioritize subsidy reform as part of broader economic reforms aimed at promoting equitable development and sustainable growth.
