1  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / They are selling your voters’ card — Omisore screams to Osun people on: 7-07-2014 12:21 AM
Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore has warned residents of the state  not to sell their voters cards to people he described as ”desperate politicians” in the state.
Omisore, who gave this warning in a statement by his Director of Media and Strategy, Prince Diran Odeyemi said there are reports that the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state was allegedly collecting voters cards from innocent people, by luring them to fill forms with their thumbprints.
Omisore, who noted that the APC was desperate to return to power in the state also informed the electorate to report anybody who ask for their voters cards to security agencies.
He however condemned the way APC members are allegedly circulating forms from house to house describing the act as wicked, anti-people and undemocratic.
The PDP candidate, also promised to give the necessary respect  to traditional rulers in the state if given the mandate.
He made the pledge in Ejigbo when he paid a courtesy call on the Ogiyan of Ejigbo Oba Omowonuola Oyesosin during his campaign tour of the Local government area.
Omisore said as traditional rulers they have a role to play in the administration of the people.
According to him, since the APC took over government in Osun state over three years ago the state had not witnessed any significant  development as all its policies are anti people .
At Songbe, Masifa, Agunrodo, Ogburo,Ife Odan, Isoko, Ola, Aye, Ilawo, Inisa Edoro,  Omisore promised the people of the communities that PDP will ensure it brings succor to the people.
Omisore said if elected he will restore the lost glory in the educational sector while promising employment for all and sundry.
The PDP candidate admonished Osun people to shun violence at all times.

2  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Jailed Robbers return 10 years later to kill victim's Son in Ebonyi on: 7-07-2014 12:11 AM

Double misfortune has befallen Okorie Orie, a native of Ibenda Effium in Ohaokwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, whose son was killed by an unrepentant gang of robbers that had robbed him 10 years earlier.

A decade ago, 37-year-old Uchenna Okereke, led six other robbers to rob Okorie Orie, dispossessing him of millions of naira and successfully escaped.
But the victim was able to recall the face of Okereke and he correctly identified him to the police, who acted on the information and arrested him. During interrogation, he revealed the identity of the other six members of his gang.
They were all tried, convicted and slammed with 10-year jail term, which they served and were subsequently released.

For the duration of the jail term, Okereke nursed a grudge, vowing to take vengeance against Orie.

Not long after his release from prison, Okereke assembled his gang for the long nursed revenge mission.Sunday Sun gathered from the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Maigari Dikko that the gang stormed the home of Orie at about 8.30pm.Recalling the horrible memory of that night his 28-year-old son, Onyekachi Orie was killed in cold blood, Orie told Sunday Sun:
“It was a shock that I can never forget in my life. The suspect, Uchenna Okereke and his gang robbed me of millions of naira 10 years ago and ran away. I was able to remember his face and reported to the police. He was arrested with members of his gang and remanded at Abakaliki Prisons. They were tried and sentenced to jail for 10 years.
“Then one night, I was in my house when a dog started barking immediately I sensed danger. I came out and hid myself in a nearby bush. The suspect, Uchenna Okereke and his gang came into the house. I heard him asking my neighbours where my room was and they were shown my room. They saw somebody sleeping on the bed and thought I was the one. They didn’t know it was my son who was sleeping on the bed. They just shot him.
“From my hiding place, I heard one of the suspects say that the person who they shot was not me but my son. I summoned courage when I heard the gunshot and flashed my torchlight at them. I was able to identify the suspects, namely, Uchenna Okereke, Chukwuma Ozoemena and Nwabueze Nworu, who killed my son. Immediately I reported to policemen, who promptly arrested the suspects.
Commenting on the case, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Mrs Tina Ogbodos said it was a pathetic case of mistaken identity:
“Uchenna Okereke and his gang robbed the victim, Okorie Orie 10 years ago. They came back to kill the victim but his son was mistaken for him and they killed his son, Onyekachi Orie. They are now in our custody.”
The alleged chief culprit, Uchenna Okereke toldSunday Sun:
“The man sent us to Abakaliki Prison 10 years ago. After we were released from prison, we came to retaliate. When we got to his house, we thought he was the person we saw sleeping on the bed in his room. We didn’t know it was his son before we shot him. It was a member of my gang who later said it was not Okorie Orie that we killed, that it was his son; we just had to escape from the scene. Later the man we wanted to kill identified us again to the police.”

6  Forum / The Buzz Central / My relationship with Phyno –Mo’Cheddah on: 6-07-2014 11:45 PM
I was born and christened Modupe-Oreoluwa Oyeyemi Ola but my act is known as Mo’Cheddah. I was born in Lagos and I am the fourth of five children. I attended University of Lagos Staff School, Akoka, for my primary education and Our Lady of Apostles, Yaba for my post-primary education. I am a creative arts graduate from the University of Lagos.

 Music

I caught the music bug when I was a child. I watched a lot of television, mimicked what I saw and that was how my creative self came to fore. I thought I was a celebrity. I started out by acting but as time went on, music came calling. I had these family friends who visited our house with their guitars and played music. I always sang along and danced. As time went on, I told them I wanted to join them. They didn’t think I was serious at first, but eventually they signed me up to Knighthouse Entertainment.

 Rap music

I’ve been rapping and singing since I was 12. That doesn’t mean I can’t explore other genres of music. I am creative, I am gifted.

 Debut album

I featured in several Knighthouse tracks before putting out my first official debut single titled, ‘If you want me’ in 2009. My debut album, ‘Franchise Celebrity’ was released in 2010 and it had 15 tracks.

 Taking a break

I was away from the music scene because of the need to spend time with family, re-invent myself and better my craft. It was a time to reflect on my career, how far I have gone and how far I still want to go. I was travelling, spending quality time with my family, and I spent good time in the studio recording. Now, I am back for good and with fantastic songs.

 Record label

When my contract with my former record label expired, I made a decision to be on my own which led me to founding my own record label. It is called Cheddah Music.

 Working with Phyno

My new single, Destinambari, was produced by Cobhams and I featured Phyno. I worked with Phyno because he was perfect for the intro. He was in a good position to add more to the diversity of the song and also reach out to my fans in Igbo language. The single was inspired by love. A new album is in the works but before that, I will release more singles.

 Awards

I was the youngest female artiste in Africa to win Channel O Award. I have been nominated several times and I have won several awards. Among these are: FAB Awards Most Stylish Artiste; Most Gifted West African Video of The Year( Channel O Video Music Awards); Brand New Act (MTV Africa Music Awards).

 Inspiration

My environment; my state of mind; and my feelings. All these put together enable me to put good music together.

 Competition

I don’t feel threatened. Depending on how you look at it, it can’t really be described as competing with each other. We are all merely expressing ourselves in different ways .I am proud of what they have achieved but what separates me from the rest is my style of music, my sound, my drive and how far I am willing to go. At the end of the day I just want to make good music and I think the sky is large enough for everybody to fly.

 Other passions

Outside music, I love to cook. If I was not into music, I’m not sure what I would have been doing because music is my life.

 Relaxation

I stay indoors; spend time with family, because family is most important. Like some people would say, family is everything. Also, I travel.

 Style

I dress according to how I feel at every point in time. I wear a size 6 or a small 8. I like to experiment with fashion and wear different styles.I don’t have a favourite designer but I like to wear different pieces from different labels. Miroslava Duma is my favourite fashion icon anytime any day. I love her daring, bold, yet chic style

 Hairstyle

My new hairstyle is unique. It was informed by the fact that I got tired and bored with wearing long weaves. I decided to go sharp and fierce with my new cut. I love the edginess.

 Keeping fit

I work out five times a week and eat as healthy as I can.

 Fame

It has its advantages and disadvantages. The sweetest thing about being famous is meeting little children who look up to you and say sweet things that brighten your world. The downside includes, but is not limited to, you being robbed of your privacy.

 Role models

It has to be Beyonce. She is a strong woman and she inspires me to work harder

7  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / GOOD NEWS: Sickle Cell Disease (SS) Is Now Curable on: 6-07-2014 11:42 PM
A new bone marrow transplant technique for adults with sickle cell disease may “cure” many patients. And it avoids the toxic effects associated with long-term use of anti-rejection drugs, a new study suggests.

This experimental technique mixes stem cells from a sibling with the patient’s own cells. Of 30 patients treated this way, many stopped using anti-rejection drugs within a year, and avoided serious side effects of transplants — rejection and graft-versus-host disease, in which donor cells attack the recipient cells, the researchers said.

“We can successfully reverse sickle cell disease with a partial bone marrow transplant in very sick adult patients without the need for long-term medications,” said researcher Dr. John Tisdale, a senior investigator at the US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

In the United States, more than 90,000 people have sickle cell disease, a painful genetic disorder found mainly among blacks. Worldwide, millions of people have the disease.

Many adults with sickle cell disease have organ damage. This makes them ineligible for traditional transplants, which destroy all their bone marrow cells and use unmatched donor cells, he said. “Doing it this way would allow them access to a potential cure,” Tisdale said.

“Adult patients, in whom symptoms are very severe, should consider whether a transplant could be right for them,” he said. “A simple blood test for their siblings could tell them whether this approach is an option.”

One expert was enthusiastic about the report, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

“The outcomes look every bit as good, if not better, than anything reported so far,” said Dr. John DiPersio, chief of the division of oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

“The issue is whether this can be extended to unrelated donors and to mismatched donors,” said DiPersio, also the author of an accompanying journal editorial.

A lack of suitable donors is the chief problem, he said. “So it’s still not going to cure the bulk of the patients without suitable donors, but for those that have siblings, this is a very attractive alternative,” DiPersio added.

The current study used cells from siblings that were a match to the patient’s cells. A new study, however, is underway that will test whether half-match cells from a parent will work as well, Tisdale said.

8  Forum / The Buzz Central / “Why I Married Ese Walter After The COZA Scandal” – Benny Ark on: 6-07-2014 11:39 PM

The name Ese Walter spread like wildfire after she confessed about her infamous affair with Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA church, Abuja in 2013.
Ese Walter was able to find love, barely a year after the incident happened and she was lucky to become the wife of popular radio personality with Cool FM, Abuja, Benny Ark.

Benny Ark has finally revealed why he got married to her and reactions from family and friends while speaking to Sunday Sun. Here’s an except from the interview below;

Amazingly, the people around us were supportive and understanding. It was some outsiders who were not privy to a whole lot of stuff that were making some kind of remarks. But the truth is, we were just friends when she told me about what happened. I was pained and hurt because here was a man who I held in high esteem. I only told her to do what she had to do because she felt like she was enslaved by something she didn’t have control over. And when she tried to reach out for disclosure that would have led to her healing, she was treated badly by some people who sent the message that some person is untouchable.

I can tell you that she reached out not once or twice. In the end, she did what she did for her peace of mind and to encourage others who are in a similar situation. She opened up not because she is the boldest person; she knew that she was taking a big risk. But she opened up because she is someone who has a conscience and will not stand for something wrong. Her making that bold move endeared her to me. When she came out with the truth, I believed her, having heard the same story two or three times from other women. When she spoke out, she was attacked. But I believe that with her simple act of speaking the truth, she not only liberated herself but also other women in a similar situation.

10  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Facebook used its over 700,000 users for an experiment without ‘out permission' on: 6-07-2014 11:32 PM
Subscribers around the world are not happy about this! What is now raising eyebrows is a recent publication of a study for  which the company manipulated the News Feeds of nearly 700,000 subscribers.
The study concluded that  negative messages on social networks make people sad, and positive ones make them happy. Facebook also discovered that those feelings can spread through a social network to third parties.
But how exactly does one measure ‘feelings?’ International media gathered that‘Nearly 690,000 subscribers to the English-language version of the social network were selected randomly as guinea pigs without their knowledge, and divided into two groups. One group had some negative posts omitted from their News Feeds, while the other had some positive posts cut out.’
The experiments were conducted between January 11 and 18 in 2012.
Led by Adam Kramer of Facebook’s Core Data Science team, which was heavily involved in the research, the study was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, or PNAS.
The researchers, in response to  the outcry, which in turn have been criticized as being dismissive of the issues raised. The experiment “manipulated the extent to which people were exposed to emotional expressions in their News Feed,” the published paper statescontended that no text was seen by the researchers and that the project therefore was compliant with Facebook’s Data Use Policy, to which all users must agree as a prerequisite to creating a Facebook account. Agreement to the policy constitutes informed consent for the research, they argued.

12  Forum / The Buzz Central / Nollywood damsels and scandals that drove them mad on: 6-07-2014 11:24 PM

They say, a golden fish has no hiding place. This is a mantra most celebrities have found out the very hard way. At one time or the other, most celebrities, especially those in the make-believe world, have had to grapple with one scandal or the other.

While not all scandals about them are true, some scandals are  actually courted inadvertently or deliberately by the stars for reasons best known to them.
But do scandals, make or mar, stars?

This is a question that would continue to attract diverse answers but the reality on ground is that different scandals affect different stars differently. Just as different stars would react differently to different scandals.

Here, are some scandals some Nollywood stars found either distasteful, unbelievable, or false.

Fasting for a man? I felt like going crazy

Ebube Nwagbo
Ebube Nwagbo
—Ebube Nwagbo

Even though Ebube Nwagbo has told people times without number that she is just the girl next door, people have not ceased to see her as a trouble-maker, controversial and anything but the girl next door. She is probably the most scandalised Nollywood actress, but that doesn’t seem to have taken anything off the ‘Smile Again’ producer, who is rising in the trade day after day.

Beautiful, sexy and curvaceous, Ebube has seen it all as far as scandals are concerned. The most recent is the story that she moved in with her old flame, the Limpopo crooner, Kcee. She was also said to have gotten in a fight with another actress, Anita Joseph, whom she claimed she had never met as at then. But the one that hit the base with her was the story that she went to church, praying and fasting for a man to marry.

“Sometimes when I hear and read things about me, I feel like going crazy. But I have learnt to always put on a smile and take them with a pinch of salt. It is not easy for people to appreciate you and admire what you do. Take for instance, the story of how I went to church to pray and fast because of a man. I was born into a very strict Christian home, those who know me can attest to this. So I was brought up to go to church and do the things of God. I went to church on a Sunday, like every other person, and offered to do something for God. But some people blew it up into a silly story. It is a thing of the past now and it has not stopped me from helping or giving to the church or to the needy” she said, concerning the scandal.

Dating the Senate President:

I don’t know David Mark personally

—Chika Ike

Long before now, it was as if Chika Ike were immuned to controversies and scandals because of her status as a married woman. No sooner had her marriage gone up in flames than messy stories began to emerge about her.

She got married early at the age of 20 and had a long spell of scandal-free life until she dumped her husband and started seeing the other side of life. The first nasty story that crept up to haunt her was her dating the Senate President, David Mark. The story alleged the Senate President even bought her a car and got an Abuja shop for her.

“I made this particular issue clear in several interviews. I don’t know David Mark personally. I only know him as the Senate President. David Mark did not buy me a car, neither did he help me with my shop in Abuja. All I’m thinking about right now is my divorce as I am officially separated”, Chika Ike said at the time.

But she is beginning to learn that marriage has certain privileges as more and more nasty stories are coming her way. But Chika seems to be well oiled to ride this new development in her life. “Honestly, I have learnt to cope with them. I have developed a rhino skin. Initially, they used to get to me but now I’ve realized it comes with the job and part of growing up”, she said.

Abortion saga:I still curse the person till tomorrow

Uche Jombo

—Uche Jombo

A-list Nollywood star, Uche Jombo    isn’t exactly known for controversies or blowing her top over issues. It seems the beautiful, prolific movie maker is too busy making movies, her 14th now, to be concerned with wallowing in little waters of gossips and rumours.

But recently, a scandal emerged out of nowhere that she aborted a six-month-old pregnancy and it got the ‘Damaged’ superstar so infuriated, she said she could have had the head of the reporter, who, according to her, fabricated the story. “You know how emotional I am. I have cried for smaller things but this one, I still curse the person, till tomorrow. It will only take God for me to see the person and not harm him”

“For me, that was my biggest scandal ever. It was really damaging and I won’t stop fighting till I get justice”, said the soon-to-be mother.

She continued: “Well, I went to court with the soft-sell magazine, for writing what I have come to consider the worst media story in my entire life and career, which was completely false and malicious. During the world premiere of my second movie, Holding Hope, I lost so much weight deliberately based on my character, in the movie, as a cancer patient only for this paper to write on their front page that I aborted a pregnancy at six months, hence the loss of weight,” she recollects with tears in her eyes.

Sex tape ISSUE: I was alarmed at the speed the story spread

—      Lydia Forson

Buxom Ghanaian actress, writer and producer, Lydia Forson, who was the first Ghanaian winner of the prestigious African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2010 has kept her name off any form of controversy for a while. But she still has a painful recollection of one that nearly tore her world apart.

“It was a sex scandal, I have never spoken about it on any platform. It happened years ago. It revolved around a non- existent sex tape, which never was. The first time, I read about the story I actually laughed because it was a very funny story. But it was no longer funny when it got to the hearing of my family. My father, a reverend, suffered, his faith and health was shaken to the roots. I was alarmed at the speed the story spread and it got to a point where some of my fans and most Ghanaians vowed to throw stones at me” she recounted.

“Some days I read some stuffs about myself in the newspapers, and I feel like crying. Sometimes, I would ask myself what I could do to avert such negative publicity. I can’t attack everybody that writes negative stories about me. I think, it’s part of the occupational hazards on the job” she observed.

Boobs enhancement sTORY:I have always been myself- Yonne Jegede

Ebony beauty and sexy Yvonne Jegede, who rode to fame after her cameo appearance in Tuface Idibia’s African Queen, is a woman blessed with mammary many women would do anything to have. After her long absence from the entertainment world occasioned by a need to get a degree in Cyprus, the sexy-lip actress decided to announce her return by posting some luscious photos of herself on the Internet.

Instead of her desired reaction of great welcome, what she got in return was a response that soon developed into a scandal. Pronto, the story was everywhere that she had done a Bosom  enlargement surgery.

But Yvonne fired back: “My features have always been the same from time immemorial. The thing is a lot of people have always seen me as that naïve, vulnerable girl who likes to cry a lot because those are the kind of roles I used to get before I left. The roles I got were roles I have to be a nice girl in the village, a girl who is begging to be loved, a girl who has made a mistake and who desperately wants to repent, a girl who people will feel sorry for, a girl who is from a poor home. So, I have my own personal life. What you see on TV has absolutely nothing to do with me. I will not cry for a man and grovel and be on the floor in tears”

She said she has always been herself and never did any Bosom  surgery. “I’m very surprised people judge me by my pictures. It was my birthday so I just went to the studio, trying to feel nice and I took pictures and that is all me, no surgery or implant” she added.

Posing Nood scandal: It was shocking to my parents — Halima Abubakar

Nollywood actress, Halima   Abubakar, is not one to take things lying down. She is one actress that airs her opinions at every opportunity without minding whose ox is gored. Hate her or love her, Halima is down-to-earth and she is probably one of the nicest persons in the Nigerian showbiz. Little wonder, the curvy actress has had some controversies trailing her career but she would tell you the most annoying one to her is the one where she was alleged to have posed Nood during her modelling days.

“I reiterated that I didn’t pose Nood. I was modelling and to some people, the pictures were a little bit revealing and so they made a huge celebration out of it. I am glad everything has died down and people have moved on” she said in her own defence at the height of the brouhaha.

She said the scandal nearly destroyed her career and shattered her family. “ A lot of producers didn’t want to work with me. They used to see me as a very decent quiet girl. To see those pictures, it was very shocking to them. It took me some years to convince them that I can act very well. I have built relationships again. It was simply shocking to my parents. My dad still does not like reading about me in the papers. My mum knows I love what I do so she advises me most times. Anyway, they are okay now unlike when they read those things years ago” she added.

13  Forum / The Buzz Central / Day I was rap£d in Calabar — Alariwo of Africa on: 6-07-2014 11:22 PM

Oluwarotimi Martins, known in the music industry as Alariwo of Africa, has been around for a long time and seemed to disappear after his hit song, Yawa Go Gas, an afrobeat single. Even Cable News Network, CNN, was confused the single could have been done by the late Afrobeat king, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Alariwo-1But Alariwo has resurfaced and ready to take the front-seat again and he is singing his way back to reckoning through his video, Dancia, which featured popular Yoruba actress, Biodun Okeowo, Pasuma and Ajasa. In this interview, Alariwo of Africa speaks on the entertainment industry:

Can you compare the then music industry to now?

The industry is getting better now but we still have some meaningless songs. Because back then, we were singing for fun and not for money. But at the same time, it’s better, as artistes now get paid good money, they get endorsement deals and all other things.

But do you feel threatened by the new artistes?

Why would I, when most of them see me as a source of inspiration to them. They respect and appreciate me a lot. Everything in life has got its time and seasons. Also am still relevant and still making money in the industry so I don’t agree to your saying that, they are the ones making it in the industry or if I feel threatened by any of them. They are good but am yet to decide on who to work with.

What was your relationship with Fela?

Fela inspired me to go into the music industry. I was encouraged to play afrobeat back then by my sponsor, Femi Lasode, because according to him, I sounded like him. I never met Fela in my life, I only listened to a lot of Fela’s songs but never met him.

What kind of instrument do you play?

Keyboard. It was my producer, Nelson Brown, who taught me how to play the keyboard

So how do you see the young artistes not being able to play music instruments, and how can it affect their career and the industry?

Most of them play the instruments. It’s not a must to play instruments, but it’s a plus, because of ideas.

There was a video you did where you featured Biodun Okeowo, Why did you feature her or is there any relationship between you both?

She’s my friend, she featured free and nothing is going on between us. I used her in my new video titled, Dancia, featuring Pasuma and Ajasa. And Dancia is my new video after being away for awhile. Also, Dancia, is a local slang for dancing

Was there anything between you and Jennifer Eliogu?

Jenny (Jennifer Eliogu) and I are just friends. It’s only in Nigeria that people misunderstand it when a lady is a friend to a man. I’m man enough to tell you if something is going on between me and anyone

What kind of child were you while growing up?

I was a very playful and stubborn child. But I’ve always been a singer from childhood. Then, my mother was always singing while my father was always playing songs of veterans like Jim Reeves, Don Williams, Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and Victor Olaiya. I was very stubborn which is or was natural. Natural, because I was also very playful.

And were you really sent to the street by your father?

That is not true. My father trained me in a very different and decent way. Though he was very strict, but he made sure we all got the best of education

Was there anytime you sued CNN?

No! What really happened was, my agent in UK wrote to CNN for compensation because they played my song Yawa Go Gas and claimed that it was the music of Fela so they paid for false information.

Do you have any unforgettable moment as an artiste?

Yes, I do, and it was when I was raped in Calabar. It happened long time ago and it is something I haven’t talked about until now. I think the girls were with the rival club of the club where I was performing and they were set out to do it. They were actually two in number. I don’t want to go into the details because it happened long time ago. The second was when I was singing on stage in Benue State and bullets were flying all around in the air . It was in 2001, it’s past and I don’t want to remember it ever again.

And there was a story that you were beaten up by Area boys over a girl?

I haven’t talked about this because it is absolutely false and I don’t want to give it any credence. My management is not happy about it. My wife is not happy about it. I think somebody paid somebody to peddle that story. It never happened and I never knew such a girl.
