Argentina icon Diego Maradona feels Lionel Messi did not deserve to win the Golden Ball following his performances at the World Cup, Goal reports. The Barcelona star beat the likes of Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and James Rodriguez to the prestigious individual award after scoring four goals in seven appearances at this summer’s tournament and guiding his team to the final, yet Maradona feels the 27-year-old only won it for commercial reasons.
“Messi? I would give him heaven if possible,” Maradona said during his show on Telesur. “But it’s not right when someone wins something that he shouldn’t have won just because of some marketing plan.”


Maradona then went on to voice his disappointment with Argentina’s 1-0 defeat in Sunday’s final against Germany following Mario Gotze’s goal in extra-time.
“I feel sorry for my country. Mario Gotze’s goal really hurt. There’s a huge sadness in my heart that we lost the final.“All things put together, I think Argentina deserved at least penalties. That Germany won was the result of a misunderstanding in the Argentine defence.”
The 1986 World Cup winner also had his say on Alejandro Sabella’s decision to replace Ezequiel Lavezzi with Sergio Aguero at half-time and argued that the Argentina boss got things wrong.
“I don’t understand the substitution of Lavezzi. He was phenomenal down the wing. Kun Aguero didn’t have the same impact. It was not his tournament.”
I thought Messi didn’t deserve the golden ball too! With the likes of Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller and James Rodriguez playing their hearts out and impressing throughout the world cup, this was clear injustice and an ulterior motive!

Arnold Schwarzenegger has denied being responsible forexposing prison inmates to a leprosy-like disease while governor of California.

The Terminator actor claims in new legal docs obtained by TMZ today that he is not personally responsible for an outbreak inPleasant Valley State Prison, where spores in the soil triggered an epidemic of Valley Fever - a disease that attacks the body's organs and leads to skin lesions, amputations and brain damage.

Schwarzenegger is being sued by inmates who claim they got sick because of his indifference and storing prisoners where dangerous spores were in abundance.

However,in the new court docs Arnold states that he was not indifferent but held a news conference acknowledging the problem. He adds that he was busy running the state and others were responsible for solving prison problems.

So in essence, its not really his fault that prisoners in his state got sick just because he couldn't supervise "those responsible" for taking care of the prisons?

In what may sound like a scene in a badly scripted movie, a 45 year old man, Ahmed Akintola, in Ibadan, Oyo State, has been arrested for molesting and impregnating his daughter who is 16 years old and in secondary school.
The randy dad who, according to reports, has been flexing his muscles on his young daughter who is now four months pregnant, has been sent to prison to the Agodi prison for the offence.
While begging in court for forgiveness, Akintola blamed the devil for his actions and asked his daughter to forgive him.
The girl told the court that her father who lives with his family in a one room apartment in the town, used to come down from the bed every night to force himself on her and warned her never to tell her mother or he would kill her.
The evil deed was only brought to the fore when the girl got pregnant and was forced to to tell who was responsible for her pregnancy. That was when she revealed that her blood father was the one who put her in the family way.
What should be done to such a father from hell?

A man in the American state of Delaware has been arrested by the police after he was caught putting heroin into his baby's diaper.
25-year-old Michael Penn was stopped by the police after he was suspected of shoplifting while with his 2 kids in a store.
Penn then attempted to hide the bags of the drugs in his possession by sliding them into the diaper of his 8-month-old son.
Unfortunately for the suspect, he was caught in the act and the drugs were found after the police searched the little boy.
The drug dealing father has been charged with possession of heroin and endangering the welfare of a child.

A little girl in the United Kingdom is one of 40 people who suffer from the  rare condition which makes them to be born without a nose.
17-month-old Tessa Evans has no sense of smell whatsoever but she can still sneeze and catch a cold and even a cough.
The little girl suffers other ailments relating to her condition which include having a hole in her heart and problems with her sight.
Despite the absence of a nasal cavity, Tessa can breathe on her own due to an artificial tube and doctors at the Great Ormond Street Hospital are devising a way to create a nose shaped mould for her which will be placed along her hairline.
The "nose" will be replaced as often as necessary as Tessa grows older.

There are strong indications that the terrorist sect, Boko Haram, may have moved some of the over 200 schoolgirls it abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State out of West Africa.

There were reports on Friday that some of the abducted schoolgirls were seen in Birao, Central African Republic with armed men. Birao is a small town in the north of the CAR.

The Islamic sect had abducted pupils of the school on April 14 and taken them into the forests along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

Over 50 of the pupils escaped while being moved out of the school.

An online report by a French news medium, Jeune Afrique, on Friday, said villagers saw about 50 young women led by armed men in the North Central African Republic last week.

The report was translated into English by one of our correspondents.

The report says, “The Nigerian schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram have passed through the northern CAR, escorted by armed men. Based on several testimonies of inhabitants, the women arrived Wednesday, April 30 aboard trucks.

“They were guarded by heavily armed men, who spoke English, and also members of the former (CAR) rebel Seleka.”

Seleka is an alliance of Islamic rebel militia factions that overthrew the Central African Republic government early last year and installed their leader as president. The group which has reportedly carried out several executions, rape and looting split last year with Christian and Muslim factions terrorising the CAR, forcing France to send more troops to the region.

The French newspaper added that natives of Birao were afraid to approach the kidnapped girls.

“According to our source, the convoy of two trucks and a pickup was previously seen at Tiroungoulou (about 170 kilometres southwest of Birao) and perhaps Chad.

“Upon arrival, some were frightened, cried and were violently rebuked in English. The girls and their guardians were then housed for several days in a house.

“The group reportedly left the scene on the night of Sunday to Monday, May 4 to 5, without a trace,” the report said.

Barely 24 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan said no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction of the pupils, Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, claimed responsibility for the abduction.

Shekau, while claiming responsibility for the seizure of the girls in a video, threatened to sell the abducted girls. “I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah,” he said.

Earlier, there were reports that the girls were taken to neighbouring Cameroon and Chad.

The Cameroonian government however faulted reports that some of the teenagers had been married off in the country.

Cameroon’s Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakari, was quoted as saying he was shocked by accusations that Cameroon was not collaborating with Nigeria to free the girls from their captors.

“We insist that allegations from Nigeria that a part of the 200 young female students recently kidnapped in the North-East of Nigeria would have been transferred to Cameroon to be forced into marriage to members of the Boko Haram sect are fully unfounded.

“Cameroon will never ever serve as a support base for destabilisation activities towards other countries,” he was quoted as saying.

The Unites States, Britain, France and China have, however, expressed their readiness to assist Nigeria in rescuing the girls. The US and British military personnel and hardware arrived in the country between Thursday and Friday.

One of our correspondents in Abuja also gathered that the Federal Government would engage Israel in the search for the abducted girls.

SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that the Federal Government and Israeli authorities had held a series of meetings since the girls were abducted on April 14.

A security source said on Friday that the collaborative efforts between Israel and Nigeria on the issue of terrorism and insurgency had been ongoing for some time.

The source who pleaded anonymity said, “The issue of collaboration with Israeli and other countries did not start now, a lot of meetings have been held on insurgency.”

When contacted on Friday, the Press Officer of the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Tony Obiechina, said the embassy had closed for the day and could not respond to the issue.

He said, “We have closed. I will have to meet with the ambassador on Monday to see if there is any information on your request.”

Ogun state House of Assembly lawmaker, Hon. Adijat Adeleye Oladapo, in a very interesting interview with City People, revealed how she got pregnant in Ss1, how the baby daddy denied the child and how she was able to get her life back on track. Read and be inspired:

“While I was in secondary school, I was a brilliant student. In my primary school I came second best student in our G2 exams but unfortunately, I started moving with some people who were more experienced and exposed than I was. One way or the other, I got pregnant when I was in SS1. The person who was responsible denied it because I was young and naive. I usually keep to myself a lot. My parents didn’t know I was pregnant after four months and the guy also didn’t know until about 4 months, although he equally impregnated about 2 other girls at the same time. He was a big boy in secondary school, the Senior Prefect, very brilliant.
It all started by exchanging novels and textbooks. I had to leave Akute where my parents stayed to live with my paternal grandfather in Kajola, a small village which was hard for me to endure because the viallage had nothing. I had my baby in December 1991. After the naming of the baby, my family held a meeting and asked me what I wanted to do and I told them I wanted to go back to school. My paternal grandmother was totally against it, simply because she felt it was a waste sending a girl child to school after what I had done but my father was ready to give me another chance which I will forever be grateful for. I enrolled in a school not far from my house because of my baby and I repeated my class. Unfortunately, the child died at 18months in 1993. It was like double jeopardy for  me, nothing to show for the stigma and missing school. When he was buried, I went to his grave and requested from God to help me because I was determined to be successful which was like a vow. I even cursed the boy who got me pregnant because he denied the pregnancy, that he would not be greater than me in life. I don’t know his level now but I am grateful for what I am today.

I have forgiven him. After my secondary school, I decided to leave home to begin my journey. In 1998, I was admitted into the University of Lagos, things were tight for me then but someone introduced me to a job which was thrift collecting and daily contribution. I started working there and for years, I collected daily contributions in Ketu market and some other popular markets in Lagos state. I didn’t have enough time to attend classes. I had to trek some places so my money would be enough. It was while I was working as a thrift collector, while coming from the office one day I stopped at my mother’s shop to take some foodstuff from her shop. I met a man there who bought most of the foodstuffs and we started talking. That was the man I married and we have two kids. After then, my life changed.”
