The deputy Governor of Enugu state, Sunday Onyebuchi this morning August 13th slumped before the impeachment panel set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct and unlawful rearing of chickens in his official residence leveled against him by the State House of Assembly.
According to Vanguard, the Deputy governor arrived the panel sitting at about 9am in company of his wife Mrs Nneka Onyebuchi, his children as well as his legal team. He began his testimony in front of the panel around 9.30am but three hours later, around 11.35am, he slumped and was immediately rushed out of the premises to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Nigeria has recorded another death from the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus. This time it is a staff of the Lagos Liason office of the Economic Community of West African State – ECOWAS headquarters, Mr Jatto Abdulqudir. Confirming his death in a statement, ECOWAS management said the 36 year old man was among those who assisted the late Liberian Patrick Sawyerr when he came to Lagos for a regional meeting and was quarantined after Sawyerr died of the deadly disease. This brings to three the number of deaths from the deadly virus in Nigeria. The first two being Sawyerr and a Nigerian nurse.

“The ECOWAS Commission announces with deep regret the passing of a staff member of its Lagos Liaison Office, Mr. Jatto Asihu Abdulqudir, aged 36. Mr. Abdulqudir, a Protocol Assistant, was among those who assisted the Liberian delegate to a regional meeting Mr. Patrick Sawyer, who died from the Ebola Virus Disease at a Lagos hospital on 25th July 2014.

“Mr. Abdulqudir had been under quarantine following that sad incident.

“The Commission wishes to use this opportunity to express its gratitude to Nigerian government authorities and others who contributed to managing the late official while under quarantine. The Management of the Commission wishes to commiserate with Mr. Abdulqudir’s family and colleagues and prays for the repose of his soul.

“Before this sad event, the Commission working in collaboration with Nigerian health authorities, had disinfected all the facilities of the ECOWAS Lagos Liaison Office as part of precautionary measures to safeguard the health, safety and security of staff members, and will continue to monitor the situation.

“Management has also intensified awareness campaign among staff on the deadly virus and uses this opportunity to invoke the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance.
“The Commission wishes to reassure staff of all Community Institutions all over the entire region that it is taking all necessary steps to guarantee their health and safety.

“Furthermore, Management enjoins all staff members and community citizens in general to intensify the observance of personal hygiene. They should also report any suspected case to health facilities and seek medical advice or attention for the effective containment and defeat of the Ebola disease.
“On the directive of regional leaders, ECOWAS has already set up a Solidarity Fund to fight the disease and has solicited the support contribution of Member States and development partners to the Fund to rid the region of the virus.

“The ECOWAS Commission wishes to reiterate its continued commitment to support Member States in confronting this deadly virus.”

A 23-year-old Celestial Church prophet, Adewale Adeleke, has been arrested for r*ping a church member during prayer a prayer session.
He committed the act on July 26 at 6 pm at the premises of Original Inn Hotel, Ebute Meta.

The prophet allegedly approached his victim claiming to be spiritually informed about her problems and had solutions to them through a scheduled prayer session.
When the victim met him at the hotel on the scheduled appointment, he obtained her mobile phone and N13,000 as mobilization fees.

He then forced her to str*p na.ked as a prerequisite for her prayer to be answered and thereafter unlawfully assaulted her and had se.xual intercourse with her without her consent.
Appearing before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Mr. Adeleke, was arraigned on a four-count charge of stealing, obtaining by false pretext, impersonation and rap.e.
The prosecutor, Mr. Chris Takim said the offences contravene Sections 258, 285, 312 and 378 of the Criminal Laws if Lagos State, 2011.
Section 258 prescribes life imprisonment for any man who has unlawful se.xual intercourse with a woman or girl, without her consent.
Adeleke however pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Ariike Oshibayo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. He further adjourned the case till August 16 for further hearing.
