Mass promotion. Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 6 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and two Commissioners of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police.

AIGs promoted to DIG are Dan’Azumi Job Doma, Mamman Ibrahim Tsafe, David O. Omojola, Solomon E. Arase, Christopher K. Katso, and Salihu Argungu Hashidu. Hilary Opara and Sotonye L. Wakama were promoted from the rank of Police Commissioner.

The promotions are with effect from 19th August 2014.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man named Julius for molesting a 7 year old girl,damaging her private and distorting her urination.29-year-old Julius, who lived in a rented apartment on Obafalabi Street, Ojodu Berger area of Lagos, allegedly tricked the little girl into his room on the night of Saturday, July 26, and had illegal carnal knowledge of her.

Punch gathered that the victim, a primary one pupil, was the daughter of Julius’s co-tenant. It was further learnt that Julius, who hails from Benin, Edo State, was not married and lived in the apartment with his mother.

On the fateful evening, the victim’s family, who were Muslims, had gone for prayer in a mosque and expected the child to come with them, but could not find her. However, when the family returned, the girl was said to have sneaked out of the suspect’s room, with obvious signs of pain.

Upon interrogation by her parents, the girl was said to have confessed that she was coming from Julius’s room, where he allegedly asked her to remove her pants, while he climbed on her and raped her.

After the confession, the parents were said to have reported the incident at the Ojodu Abiodun Division and Julius was arrested.


The victim's mother said


    On that evening, when we came back from the mosque, she could not bend down properly. I asked her where she went and she initially lied, but later said she had been in his room.
    “She said the man asked her to remove her pants, and he put his organ into her, stating that he was just playing with her. I then asked her to repeat the same to her daddy when he came back. But in the morning when we confronted Julius, he denied it. Then we called our family nurse, who came, tested her, and confirmed that she had been raped.
    “That same day, we took her to a private hospital where the doctor also confirmed that she had been raped the day before, and on several occasions. So, we reported at the police station. From that day, I observed she could not hold her urine.
    “A girl who had stopped bedwetting suddenly began to urinate during sleep. The medical personnel said there was a damage to her private parts that needed to be treated. That was how she resumed treatment at the hospital.”

Her medical report, which was signed by a doctor, identified simply as Dr. Sanni, stated among other things that there was a breach of hymen and the absence of labia minora.

A woman was rushed to hospital and hundreds of people were quarantined today after she showed symptoms of Ebola virus infection in a jobcentre in Germany.
As many as 600 visitors and staff at the employment office building in Berlin were also stopped from leaving for several hours as emergency services sealed off part of the street.
The mass-circulation daily Bild said the woman had fainted, that she hailed from Nigeria and that she said later that she had recently been in contact with people infected with Ebola.
Several people who had been with the woman inside the building in the north-eastern district of Prenzlauer Berg were later taken to hospital for testing.
Berlin fire department spokesman Rolf Erbe said that because the patient came from 'an area affected by a highly contagious disease, we took these precautions.'
He said the testing in the city's Charite hospital would take some time.
'The patient was isolated inside the ambulance, the staff took the appropriate protective measures. An emergency medic, the public health officer, arrived and the necessary precautions were taken,' he added.
The woman had turned up at the employment bureau with a high fever. A spokesman for the city's health authority said emergency services were called after the woman collapsed.

All 600 people quarantined within the centre were in the suspected victim's vicinity before she collapsed.
West Africa's Ebola epidemic, which has hit four nations since it broke out in Guinea early this year, is by far the deadliest since the virus was discovered four decades ago in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The World Health Organization said today the Ebola virus had killed 84 people in just three days, bringing the global death toll to 1,229, while confirmed, probable and suspect infections rose to 2,240.
The outbreak is not yet under control, the UN health agency said, although there have been no confirmed cases of the disease spreading beyond the region at its centre.
A spokesman said: 'As recent experience shows, progress is fragile, with a real risk that the outbreak could experience another flare-up.
'A case in a previously unaffected area was reported last week, indicating continuing spread to new areas.'
European countries have been taking precautions against a possible spread, with Berlin's Charite hospital, where the woman showing symptoms was taken today, last week holding a photocall for the media to publicise its readiness.

Charleigh Disbrey, 15, known as CJ to friends, died alongside 18-year-old Turkish boyfriend Mert Karaoglan in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.
According to UK Mirror, the young couple  climbed a 6ft fence to get on to the tracks and were struck by the empty train. Shortly before they killed themselves Mert sent a photograph to a friend of the smiling pair standing on a bridge over the railway line.

He texted the friend telling him to find his phone which would explain they would 'never be together in this life and would rather be together in a different place.'

The couple were seen by the London First Capital Connect driver running down the tracks hand in hand, but he was unable to do anything to avoid hitting them.

Recurrent poor performances in the West African Secondary School Certificate examinations and other public examinations have been blamed on erratic power supply in the country.

This claim was made by Chief Yomi Ogunnusi, representing Ifako-Ijiaye constituency in Lagos. The lawmaker said the erratic power supply was a big hindrance to learning; something he said would not encourage students to study hard.

The 2014 results released by the West African Examination Council showed that only 31.28% of candidates who sat for the West African Secondary School Certificate examination passed with five credits in five subjects including Mathematics and English Language.

There is fire on the mountain and if caution is not applied, it would spread. Some of the soldiers deployed to the troubled North Eastern part of Nigeria to restore peace and normalcy are complaining that they are not being given enough weapons and ammunition to fight the dreaded Boko Haram sect, according to the BBC.

Some soldiers were reported to have expressed fears of being overpowered by the insurgents, and as such the soldiers have vowed to resist any attempt by their Ogas to send them to Boko Haram strongholds again.

So, Boko Haram now have strongholds inside Nigeria? Serious Gobe!

    Here what a Nigerian soldier said: “The Nigerian army is not ready to fight Boko Haram. Soldiers are dying like fowl. Boko Haram are inside the bush, everywhere. They [senior military officers] are sacrificing soldiers.”

The soldier, who spoke to the BBC under anonymity, disclosed that at least 40 of his colleagues would refuse orders to be deployed against Boko Haram members who have superior weapons of war.

You may wish to know that two weeks ago, wives of soldiers staged a protest at Giwa Barracks in Borno state, demanding that their husbands should not be send to areas known to be Boko Haram strongholds.

Defence spokesman, Major-General Chris Olukolade, had denied that Nigeria lacks the required equipment to prosecute a war against the insurgents. In a chat with TheCable, Olukolade said the Nigerian army has been appropriately utilising arms and ammunition at its disposal and that concerted efforts are being made to improve its artillery.

Liberia is desperately searching for 17 Ebola patients who fled after an attack on a quarantine centre in the capital Monrovia. On Saturday,youths wielding clubs and sticks attacked a medical facility set up to isolate Ebola victims.
They chanted "there is no ebola" as they carted away equipment and personal effects of patients .They said Ebola is a myth....
 Despite the search,they are yet to find any of the missing victims.They are now considering sealing off the entire area which houses over 75 thousand house

Information Minister Lewis Brown said:

    "All those hooligans who looted the centre are now probable carriers of the disease.... They took mattresses and bedding that were soaked with fluids from the patients. To quarantine the area could be one of the solutions."
    We run the risk of facing a difficult-to-control situation," "The police had to stand down because they were concerned not to put their men at risk. They got a supply of protective equipment yesterday and my expectation is that they will redeploy today."
