2  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Chibok girls: Parents want case closed, say funeral rites already performed on: 23-08-2014 12:11 PM

Four long months after over 200 girls were taken from their school in Chibok, Borno State, the Nigerian government have not been able to find them ...and now their parents want the case closed and have asked the Federal government to just help bring back their daughters corpses. Some of the parents said after missing for four months, they already presumed the girls are no longer alive and have performed their funeral rites according to their custom.

The parents position was made known yesterday August 22nd at the #Bringbackourgirls advocacy group daily sit-out meeting for the rescue of the missing girls at Unity Fountain, Abuja. The group said all the parents want at this time is for the bodies of the girls to be returned to them so they can be given proper burial. “All they said they want is their corpses to bury them honourably” the group said

3  Forum / The Buzz Central / Is Tiwa Savage expecting a baby? on: 23-08-2014 08:55 AM

Fans of Nigeria’s queen of pop, Tiwa Savage-Balogun were filled with joy during the week when news hit the internet that their idol is expecting her first baby.

Tiwa got married to her manager-turned-husband, Tee Billz several months ago.  Reports of her pregnancy went viral online after she showed up at DJ Jimmy Jatt’s 25th years on stage celebration  which held last Sunday at Intercontinental hotel, Victoria Island. The songstress obviously looked glamorous in a blue free gown which many suspected was meant to hide her growing baby bump.

Meanwhile, her tweets further fuel speculations that she may be pregnant. “Official Tiwa Savage, the spirit of a mother. Mrs Tee Billz, married and taken,”she tweeted.

4  Forum / Sports / “I Have Moved On” – Stephen Keshi May Not Return as Super Eagles Coach     on: 23-08-2014 07:18 AM

After his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expired, Stephen Keshi told reporters that he is looking forward to going back to his family and facing fresh challenges.

It was later reported that the NFF was in talks with him on coming back at the coach of the national football team. Keshi’s alleged demand was better pay and a few additions to continue as coach.

He was previously paid $30,000 a month.

We have been waiting to hear the news that he is back, but nothing yet.

It could be because of the recent drama in the NFF which saw Aminu Maigariimpeached as President and later reinstated, as well as the recent fire outbreak at the head office in Abuja.

Whatever the delay is, Stephen is done waiting.

In a chat with the BBC Sports, he says “I have moved on. I can only wish the country well for the future.”

the 52-year-old added that;

“I’ve had about seven countries approach me in the last two months but I kept them all away.
There’s a game in two weeks (Nations Cup qualifier against Congo) but no-one is thinking about it and at the same time they expect you to win.
I understand the ongoing crisis facing the federation but the national team should not suffer from such at this crucial stage.
Sadly, I also think attention is focused more on the upcoming NFF elections and the national team is simply not a priority.
I love my country and I am aware of the dream our fans had of me taking this team to the next level.
While acknowledging the efforts of some people involved in the negotiation, I think others probably have other important things to do.”

6  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Chef cooking snake dies after cobra bites him 20 minutes after head was cut off on: 23-08-2014 06:59 AM

A chef preparing a dish from cobra flesh died when the snake's head bit him - 20 minutes after it was cut off. Victim Peng Fan had been preparing a special dish made from the Indochinese spitting cobra, a rare delicacy in Asia where eating snakes is commonplace. But when he went to throw the serpent's severed head into the waste bin, it bit him - injecting him with its fast acting venom. Police say Mr Peng died before he could be given life saving anti-venom in hospital. Diners who were eating in the restaurant at the time have described screams coming from the kitchen as the tragedy unfolded.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwCEKy8lZR4" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwCEKy8lZR4</a>

Restaurant guest Lin Sun, 44, who was in the restaurant with his wife Su at the time said: "We were in the restaurant having a meal for my wife's birthday when suddenly there was a lot of commotion.

"We did not know what was happening but could hear screams coming from the kitchen.

"There were calls for a doctor in the restaurant but unfortunately by the time medical assistance arrived the man had already died. After we heard that we did not continue with our meal."

A police spokesman said: "It is a highly unusual case but it appears to be just an accident. He prepared the snake himself and was just unlucky.

"There was nothing that could be done to save the man. Only the anti-venom could have helped but this was not given in time. It was just a tragic accident."

The snake was being diced up to be made into snake soup, which is a delicacy in the area and a much sought after dish in high-end restaurants. China has seen a rising demand for snake products, not only in restaurants but also for use in traditional medicine.

Snake expert Yang Hong-Chang - who has spent 40 years studying cobras - says all reptiles can function for up to an hour after losing body parts, or even their entire body.

Mr Yang said: "It is perfectly possible that the head remained alive and bit Peng's hand. By the time a snake has lost its head, it’s effectively dead as basic body functions have ceased, but there is still some reflexive action.

"It means snakes have the capability of biting and injecting venom even after the head has been severed."
