The son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lt. Col. Adeboye, who was shot on Monday by Boko Haram insurgents   near Michika in Adamawa State   has   expressed eagerness to return to the battle front.
Adeboye, who is recuperating at a government medical facility in Yola, spoke with a former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar and the Director General of the National Orientation Agency,   Mike Omeri.
Abubakar   visited the injured soldier while Omeri spoke with him on the telephone.
A source in the hospital told newsmen that the former vice-president, who recently mended fences with Obasanjo, was glad to find Adeboye in high spirit.
The source quoted Abubakar as having told the officer   that he was impressed to see him display the type of courage his father (Obasanjo) was known for.
“He even marched before me even as he was recovering from gunshots,” the source quoted the ex-vice president as saying.

Abubakar was said to have wished   Adeboye speedy recovery from the injuries he sustained from gunshots in an operation to flush out   insurgents from Michika. About 25 soldiers were killed in the battle.
Also, Omeri told journalists at a news conference in Abuja that Adeboye was in high spirits when he spoke with him on the telephone on Tuesday.
The NOA boss, who coordinates the National Information Centre, said, “I spoke with the son of Gen. Obasanjo’s son   that was involved in the incident of yesterday(Monday). He is in very high spirits and he is assuring Nigerians that what is on his mind now is to get well and go back to defend his fatherland.
“That was what he told me today(Tuesday). And this is the kind of patriotism and the spirit that   even those of us who are not on the line of battle should exhibit. We should continuously support members of the armed forces and support them in prayers.”
Omeri also cautioned Nigerians against buying used phones and Subscriber Identity Module cards as they could have been used by insurgents.
He said, “The NIC wishes to call on Nigerians to desist from purchasing used GSM phones and pre-registered SIM cards from unknown sources.
“Such phones and SIM cards might have been used for terrorist and other untoward activities. This caution has become necessary to save members of the public the embarrassment of being apprehended for criminal activities committed with phones and SIM cards found in their possession.
“Accordingly, members of the public are strongly advised to report cases of stolen phones and SIM cards to the police, while refraining from purchasing second-hand phones/SIM cards from unknown sources.”
Omeri also spoke on a recent regional ministerial meeting convened to explore ways of achieving international cooperation in tackling   insurgency in the North-East.
The meeting which was held in Abuja on September 3 under the chairmanship of Nigeria was attended by representatives of Cameroun, France, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, China, Benin, Chad, Niger, the European Union, and the Economic Community of West African States.
Omeri said, “The meeting underscored the need to effectively address the sources of funding and supply of weapons to Boko Haram and called for greater international co-operation in tracking all forms of illegal transfer of arms and ammunition.

Fear gripped students, parents and staff of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on Tuesday over a report that a patient on admission at the OAU Health Centre was a suspected Ebola Virus Disease victim.
Though the management of the school initially denied the development but the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Temitope Ilori, said the sick student had confessed having contact with the late Port Harcourt doctor, Iyke Enemuo, who died of the EVD after he secretly treated an infected ECOWAS diplomat, Olu-Ibukun Koye, in a hotel in the Rivers State capital.

Ilori said, “I was told that a student of the OAU who had contact with the doctor who died of the Ebola virus in Port Harcourt walked into the health centre when she was sick.
“She was said to have told doctors at the health centre that she had contact with the Port Harcourt doctor and was put under surveillance but she said she tested negative that time.
“Now she returned to the OAU to continue with her studies and was sick. She was said to have walked to the health centre and told them everything about her contact with the doctor.
“Her blood sample has been taken for another test in Lagos and we are awaiting the result. We pray she is not positive but she has been isolated at the health centre.”
When one of our correspondents visited the hospital on Tuesday, it was observed that health officials were disinfecting the surroundings of the medical centre and more attention was paid to places where patients sit before being attended to.
It was also learnt that top officials of the hospital held an emergency meeting after testing the suspected patient, who was said to have been on admission in the hospital since Monday.
Before the confirmation by the commissioner, the Public Relations Officer of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile Ife, Mr. Olu Bello, had denied the report that a suspected Ebola virus patient had been admitted to the hospital.
Bello said he also heard that a student of the OAU, who returned from Port Harcourt, was down with the virus but he said the hospital did not have any case of Ebola.
“There is no case of Ebola at the OAUTHC. Nothing like that; I also heard something like that but such rumour has been causing unnecessary tension among the people but it is not true.”
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju,   said the university would make its findings known to the public later Tuesday night.
“It is a suspicion; we don’t know yet. We will make our position on it known tonight. We are still working; we are in the office now,” he told one of our correspondents on the phone.
Olanrewaju later told The Punch that the ailing student had been moved to Lagos.
Though, medical officials in the hospital had denied that the said student tested positive to the Ebola virus, they confirmed that the Federal Government Emergency Ebola Team had been contacted.
One of the officials, who preferred not to be identified because he was not authorised to speak, said the suspected patient would be made to go through an intensive examination on Wednesday (today) by the EVD team from Lagos.
Another official claimed that the symptoms showed by the student “are not too different from fever”.
The official said, “A patient was brought to the health centre and due to the fact that she hails from Port Harcourt there were fears that it might be Ebola. We have carried out tests on the victim and found that she is suffering from a likely fever. Not satisfied, we pressed further by holding an emergency meeting which finished five minutes ago.”
When asked why the hospital was disinfecting its surroundings, another staff said, “We are only taking preventive measures. To be 100 per cent satisfied, we have sent a letter to the Ebola Emergency Team in Lagos and the team should arrive by tomorrow (today).”
To ensure calmness in the institution, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bamitale Omole, urged students to desist from spreading rumours about EVD.
He spoke during the 52nd matriculation ceremony for 5,608 newly-admitted students of OAU on Tuesday.
He said, “A current issue of concern to us as an institution, which is also related to the judicious use of the facilities in the halls of residence, is maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene to halt the spread of EVD. The virus, which is not airborne, spreads through bodily fluids such as blood, sweat, urine, saliva and vomit. We should all co-operate to halt the spread of this disease by arming ourselves with adequate information about the disease and avoid spreading false rumours that certainly can cause fear and panic.
“A committee of experts had been set up in the university and it will step up its sensitisation and enlightenment campaign about the symptoms, modes of transmission and preventive measures of the disease.”

According to reports, the Federal Government might be making plans to ban the sale and consumption of hides and skins, commonly known as “pomo”.
Vanguard reports that the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina called for a stronger check on the consumption and sale of the product.
Adesina reportedly made this known at the 3rd joint anniversary of the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) and Nigeria Institute of Animal Science held at the University of Ibadan.
He said that this would enable farmers make a bigger profit because they would able to turn the hides and skins into leather.
Adesina said:

I am confident that the satisfactory production levels achieved in the poultry and swine segments will soon stretch to reach other commodities such as beef, dairy, micro livestock and animal by products such as leather, bones, hides and skins.
The drive to turn Agriculture into business and not merely a way of life is now in full gear, with the use of mobile phones and e- wallet for input distribution directly to farmers, farmer’s registration with biometric identity cards and the Growth Enhancement Support scheme.

A US Air Mashal is in quarantine in Houston today after being allegedly attacked yesterday by an unknown assailant at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, wielding a syringe.

    U.S. law enforcement officials told ABC News they were alarmed by the bizarre, unprovoked attack because the assailant was apparently able to inject an unknown substance into the back of one of the air marshal’s arms. The air marshal was traveling with a team of other marshals when the attack took place in an unsecured area of the airport terminal in Lagos, the officials said. He was able to board the United Airlines flight to Houston he was scheduled to work and was met early this morning in Houston by FBI agents and health workers from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Amid fears the substance could contain some form of the Ebola virus, the air marshal was immediately put into quarantine.

The FBI said he was screened “on-scene… out of an abundance of caution.” An FBI spokesperson said,

    “The victim did not exhibit any signs of illness during the flight and was transported to a hospital upon landing for further testing. None of the testing conducted has indicated a danger to other passengers.”

Health experts say most infectious agents would not immediately manifest or make the patient contagious. While the unknown assailant ran away and could not be located, officials said the other air marshals on the team were able to secure the needle and bring it on the flight for testing in the U.S.

U.S. air marshals travel undercover in plain clothes and it would not be immediately obvious to an attacker that his target was an American law enforcement agent, officials say.

    “While there is no immediate intelligence to confirm this was a targeted attack, this is our reminder that international cowards will attempt to take sneaky lethal shots at our honorable men and women abroad,” said Jon Adler, the national president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.

Fast-rising Yoruba actress, Temmy who has spent the past 5 years in a Dubai prison for drug trafficking has been released and is back in Nigeria.

According to City People Magazine, the plumpy actress who rocked many party scenes in Lagos before she was caught in the web of drug trafficking by Dubai authorities came back into the country last week. She arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos into the waiting hands of the father of her baby girl. City People Magazine has it on good authority that Temmy and her man will soon be walking down the aisle. As you read this, the actress has not indicated any intention to return to movie location to continue her career in acting.

 About 5 years ago, news filtered in from the oil rich United Arab Emirates State of Dubai that Temmy had been jailed for 10 years for drug trafficking. Nothing was heard about her until a year later when news broke that she has been delivered of a baby girl while in prison.

 Sources who know the high flying actress confirmed to City People magazine, that shortly before her arrest in Dubai, she was seen around with a top baron in Dubai. Having a baby, traditionally, is a thing of joy, but for the beautiful Nigerian actress it’s a sad tale to have her first baby in a gas chamber and worst of it all, far from her fatherland, Nigeria. A source revealed:

     “Nigerians in Dubai have neglected Temmy like a bad habit for fear of arrest. All her efforts to reach her close pals in Dubai to come to her aid shortly after she had the baby proved abortive as friends and business associates have all avoided her like a plague.”



Though, Temmy initially bagged a 21-year jail term, her condition as a pregnant woman then, was said to have made them reduce it to 10 years. It will be recalled that when Temmy was arrested for drugs, she was not lucky enough when the custodians of UAE law and constitution found her wanting aside the drug issue.

Temmy, CP learnt, had police cases of stealing and forgery inside Dubai major markets and had been warned severally never to return to country again. But as fate would have it, she was said to have used another forged name and documents to enter Dubai while she was trafficking drugs. Left with no choice of curbing her excesses, the UAE authorities gave her two options. Firstly, to be amputated on her left arm and right leg or face 21 years imprisonment. She however fell for the latter.

A 23-year-old female student of the Department of Mass Communication of Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa in Oyo State, has alleged that a soldier (name withheld) attached to a special security outfit in the state, ‘Operation Burst’ raped her three times in the night of Friday, August 29, this year, under a dongoyaro tree.The lady, a National Diploma (ND) II student (name withheld), said the soldier allegedly threatened to kill her with a two-edged knife if she did not cooperate. This, according to her, took place in the premises of the Ibarapa zonal office of the Operation Burst at Secretariat in Eruwa.

The lady sobbed as she narrated her ordeals to newsmen in Ibadan yesterday. She also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians, including President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience to intervene for her to get justice on the alleged rape.
President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Ibarapa Polytechnic, Atilola Olatunji; a legal practitioner, Mr. Ola Adeosun, and the lady’s guardian, Oludare Ogunlana, had earlier addressed a press conference on the incident.
The lady explained that she was arrested on an allegation of being a cultist by the soldier at about 10:30p.m on the fateful day after she saw a friend of hers off in Oke-Ola area of Eruwa, adding that the soldier was not satisfied that she was not a cultist and took her to the zonal office at Secretariat. She alleged that she saw other soldiers and security agents at the zonal office premises, torturing some other people, including students.
With tears in her eyes, she said: “At about 10.30p.m on Friday, August 29, 2014, while returning to my apartment, having escorted a friend out, a soldier stopped me and asked where I was going to at that period of time. I told him I was going to my apartment, more so that there was no curfew in Eruwa on that day.
“He said I must be a cultist to be moving about around that time, but I denied it. He ordered me to climb his motorcycle, but I pleaded with him that he should let me go. He removed a knife and said he would stab me. So scared, I climbed the Okada and he took me to their Operation Burst office.
“On the way, I saw a woman whom I called for assistance. The woman pleaded with the soldier but he refused. He took me to the office. On getting there, I heard screams of some people being tortured in the building.
“The soldier forcibly led me to a dark area under a dongoyaro tree and ordered me to remove my dresses for him to see the cultist tattoos on my body. I told him I have no tattoos on my body and that he should let me go. He then removed the knife again and said he would slaughter me like a ram and that I would be buried like many other girls, who had failed to cooperate in the past, and nobody would trace my death to him.
“I later agreed by removing all my clothes. He ordered me to lie down under the tree and he had sex with me three times, while I was crying. Around 3.30a.m, I was catching cold and he went into the office and brought a bottle of beer. He gave it to me to hold for him. Later, he said he was going to bring a blanket for me to cover my body. I waited for about 30 minutes, but when he did not return, I dressed up and ran away from the place.”
The student, as gathered, reported the incident to her parents that also reported the case to their lawyer. Thereafter, a complaint was lodged at the police station in Eruwa. The police reportedly contacted the relevant military authorities and the purported victim was taken to the Operation Burst office, where identification parade was conducted.
The lady was said to have identified the suspected soldier, simply identified as Ignatius, who allegedly admitted molesting the girl. It was also gathered that the lady was taken to a private hospital for appropriate test.
A legal practitioner, Mr. Ola Adeosun, said the lady was instructed by the hospital to buy hand gloves before a doctor attended to her. In conducting the test, Adeosun said the doctor “instructed the victim to lie down, and thereafter used his GSM phone’s torchlight to look into her honeypot and thereafter wrote his report where he stated that although he did not see semen/sperm therein, the victim’s honeypot had been tampered with.
“On being probed on the reason the doctor did not check inside the honeypot for semen, we were embarrassed when the doctor informed our client that the hospital does not have the facilities to carry out such ‘an elementary’ test.”
The lawyer said the first statement in which the soldier allegedly admitted that he had carnal knowledge of the lady had been substituted with assault against the girl.
But the Oyo State Government has denied the allegation of rape against the soldier. A statement issued on September 7, 2014, by the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Dr. Festus Adedayo, said: “The Oyo State anti-crime outfit nicknamed Operation Burst, has said it had investigated a case of rape levelled against one of its operatives by a student of the Eruwa Polytechnic, Ibadan and found it to be baseless.
“The outfit, however, said the Nigerian Army had recommended the officer involved for disciplinary measures for abandoning his duty post.
“The crime-fighting outfit made this known in a release issued by the outfit’s Second-in-Command, CSP Elijah Bawa, at the weekend. According to the Operation Burst, immediately the outfit was intimated with the allegation of rape against the said student, he dispatched an investigation team to Eruwa.
“He said the team met with the Divisional Police Officer for the Eruwa Division, DSP Kayode Adigun, who disclosed that the 23-year-old Mass Communication student of the school lodged a complaint with the command that she had been raped by the soldier who was also an operative of the anti-crime outfit.
“Upon being told that she had not destroyed what could amount to an evidence if the case was true, said the outfit’s second-in-command, the divional police officer (DPO) took the lady complainant to the Eruwa General Hospital for medical examination, the result of which proved negative.

“When interrogated about the process of the rape, said the Operation Burst, the allegedly raped lady said she had left her hostel and was seeing her friend off at about 2230 hrs and when she was returning, she was accosted by the Operation Burst operative who accused her of being a cultist.”

Sahara Reporters is reporting that Boko Haram militants attacked a platoon led by the son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, shooting him today.. They say he ustained serious injuries to his legs and was being transported to the hospital at the time of their report. Find it below...

    "Adeboye Obasanjo, an army engineer, was a Lieutenant Colonel at the 3rd Division in Jos, Plateau State.

    He and his platoon were engaged with Boko Haram militants at Baza, which is the village of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3rd division when the incident took place."

    The Lieutenant Agwu of the 234 battalion, GOC of the 3rd Division, Major Gen JS Zaruwa and Colonel Victor Ebhaleme who serves as the Brigade Commander of the 23rd Army brigade in Yola were all together advancing towards Michika when Boko Haram fighters unleashed the deadly attack on the soldiers."

    24 soldiers in the platoon were reportedly killed by the militants.

    Apart from the dead soldiers, the army also lost an armored tank to the militants. As a result of the attack, the army has moved sensitive weapons from mubi to the Brigade headquarters in Yola leaving mubi vulnerable to attack. The town of Mubi has practically been deserted following the closure of schools and massive retreat of soldiers from the city.
