The Governor of Lagos State, Fashola on Monday said his state has received 200 million naira donation from the Federal Government of Nigeria in order to battle Ebola virus disease outbreak in the state.

This was made known at the State House in Ikeja while MTN was donating Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, to the government to be worn by those attending to Ebola patients at the Isolation Centre in Yaba.

Fashola said the money sent in last Wednesday would be used for the purpose it was meant for.

The governor expressed sadness that outbreak of the disease had been recorded in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, another urban settlement like Lagos, stressing that the experience of Lagos and Port Harcourt would serve as definitive knowledge in the fight of Ebola in urban settlement.

A man identified as Abiodun Atinuke has been charged and sent to jail for planning to kill his ex-wife few months after their marriage crashed.husband hired killers wife lagos

34-year-old Abiodun allegedly hired a 3-man hired killer gang and paid them an undisclosed amount of money to assassinate his ex-wife, Eniola who dumped him 6 months after their wedding.

Abiodun allegedly sent the hired killers to 15 Ogunmokun street in Mushin area of Lagos to murder Eniola but luckily she escaped and reported the matter to Olosan Police station.

Abiodun was promptly arrested but the hired assassins escaped.

Abiodun told the police that trouble started after they got married and Eniola started behaving strangely and was coming home late. He said he confirmed his suspicion when he caught his wife with her lover. The suspect said that when he confronted Eniola, instead of showing remorse, she packed out of their matrimonial home and moved into her lover’s house. Atinuke was charged before the court for conspiracy and conduct likely to breach public peace.

The suspect was remanded in Prison custody because he couldn’t meet his bail condition. The matter was adjourned till the September 2014.

An elderly woman who was in the same hospital room with Late Dr Enemuo who treated ECOWAS diplomat,Olu-Ibukun Koye ,has tested positive to Ebola.She is one of the three persons quarantined in Oduoha, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.She contracted the virus in Good Heart Hospital, the health facility where Iyke Enemuo,died last week
The two others – a doctor and a pharmacist who are members of staff of Sam Steel Clinic,founded by late Enemou,tested negative.

The Commissioner of health also said,the sister of Late Enemou who ran to Abia state has been found .He said....

She had earlier run to Abia State apparently because of fear of being stigmatised.We were able to trace her with the help of my counterpart   in Abia State. She developed feverish symptoms and she had been admitted at the isolation unit  for observation and treatment. She is among the 50 high risk contacts on our list. We decided to take her to the isolation unit to make assurance surer.We are currently running a test on her and the result will be out by Tuesday(today) or thereabout. We chose to isolate her because we don’t want to go through the same experience we had with   Olu-Ibukun.”
 I told you yesterday(Sunday) that we had three patients, and out of the three, the result came out; two of them were negative while one was positive. The two negative ones have left the centre.We discharged them but we will repeat the tests because they are still within the 21 days circle of the virus. We pray that they remain negative.The one who is positive is an elderly woman that was in the same hospital with the late Dr. Enemuo. In fact, they were in the same room. She is there ( the quarantine centre) now.”
 “We have decided that within this week, Dr. Enemuo and other high risk corpses in the UPTH mortuary would be buried, according to the World Health Organisation protocols.
“That means that the corpses will not leave Port Harcourt . They will be buried under the supervision of the EOC, Ministry of Health officials, and officials of WHO so that we don’t expose the relatives to danger.We will take care of all the safety protocols ourselves. The families will be there but we will not allow them touch the corpses.
“The families can hold their parties if they choose to, but they will not be allowed to come close to the bodies. We will take maximum precaution to combat the spread of the virus.”

Stephen Davis, an Australian hostage negotiator who spent some time in Nigeria trying to secure the release of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram militants in Chibok, Borno State, told SaharaReporters that he stands by his widely reported allegations that former Governor Modu Sherriff of Borno State and a former Chief of Army staff, General Azubuike Ihejirika (ret.), were among the top sponsors of the Islamist insurgents who have massacred thousands of Nigerians and foreigners and made the northeast part of Nigeria a highly militarized zone.

In an extensive telephone interview with SaharaReporters yesterday,asked whether Mr. El Rufai and former military ruler, Muhammadu Buhari, had a hand in funding or sponsoring Boko Haram, Dr. Davis said their names have not been mentioned to him by any Boko Haram connections.

Also, asked to explain why Mr. Ihejirika, a non-Muslim who hails from the predominantly Christian southeastern part of Nigeria, became a Boko Haram “sponsor,” Mr. Davis said,

 “Boko Haram commanders and some connected with them told me on several occasions Ihejirika was one of their sponsors.”
The Australian hostage negotiator vowed to make more revelations about Boko Haram’s sponsors, adding that he believed the sect could only be dismantled if their sponsors were exposed and prosecuted. In particular, he said he could not see why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had not already moved on Sheriff for his extensive looting of public funds when he was the Borno State governor, and for leaving the roads in Borno State in a terrible shape that has enabled Boko Haram to ambush Nigeria troops and massacre them mercilessly. He also added that the former governor should face the ultimate trial for financing the recruitment of young men to the Islamist sect.

The Australian negotiator also revealed that his years working with Nigerian presidents on matters of terrorism had shown that, even when some prominent individuals are known to be involved in criminality, the presidents are simply too afraid to take them on. He cited the example of the Niger Delta region. He told SaharaReporters that he and former President Olusegun Obasanjo found out that Abiye Sekibo, who was then Mr. Obasanjo’s Transport Minister, had contracted the assassins who killed a prominent politician, Harry Marshall. He said he tried to persuade Mr. Obasanjo to prosecute Mr. Sekibo, but the then president declined, stating that such a trial could bring down his government.

Dr. Davis dismissed Mr. Sheriff’s threat to travel to Australia to sue him for his statements as grandstanding and seeking to divert attention from the real issue of Mr. Sheriff’s involvement with Boko Haram. He added that he would be pleased to meet the former governor at the airport whenever he developed the courage to come to Australia.
