President Goodluck Jonathan has applauded the attention his administration is giving the Igbo, whom he said, are well represented in his government and are being appointed to positions which no previous administrations ever gave them.

The President also said the Igbo had also benefited from many projects completed by his government in the South-East.

He said these during this year’s World Igbo Congress Day in Huston, United States of America.

The event had held on Saturday, but a copy of the President’s speech at the ceremony was only made available to journalists by the presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Thursday.

President Jonathan, who said his administration’s appointments were based on competence, equity and fairness, noted that he would leave it to “historians” to determine whose administration had done more for the Igbo in terms of federal appointments.

A doctor in LUTH has recommended taking Ewedu (Corchorus walcottii or Jew’s Mallow) to cure and prevent Ebola virus infection.

The consultant at LUTH in Idi Araba, Prof Adebukola Ositelu said Ewedu has a high potency to boost the immune system.

She mentioned this during a program organized by NAFDAC yesterday in Ikeja.

Ositelu however, noted that chances of being cured by an intake of Ewedu when a victim has gotten to the stage of vomiting was low, but could still be administered.

She also gave a brief instruction on how to prepare Ewedu for Ebola prevention and cure.

Do not add salt or any other ingredients

Chaos struck at the Federal Medical Center in Asaba yesterday when a male patient started exhibiting Ebola virus infection symptoms.

The discovery resulted in stampede as people around at the time ignorantly scampered for safety for fear of having contact with the patient.

The MD of FMC, Dr Leo Erhunmwunse said the patient was admitted because he was vomiting and stooling.

“A patient who was stooling and vomiting was actually brought to the hospital today (yesterday), symptoms of Ebola but we need to confirm if he is suffering from the disease. We need to carry out series of test to verify if he has the virus or not. People should not panic. The situation is under control,” he assured

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, yesterday restrained 20 commercial banks in Nigeria from allowing Dansa Foods and Bulk Pack Services Limited, two companies owned by Sani Dangote, the younger brother of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, from withdrawing money from the accounts.

The court also restrained the banks from honouring cheques to withdraw from the accounts.

The restraining order, Justice Okon Abang said was to be in force until September 11, 2014, when all applications filed in a suit brought by Union Bank against the two companies would be heard.

The banks are Access, CITI, Diamond, Ecobank, Enterprise, Fidelity, First Bank, First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Heritage, Keystone, Mainstreet, Skye Bank, Stanbic IBTC, Standard Chartered Bank, Sterling, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Unity, Wema and Zenith.

The judge also ordered the banks to file affidavits to show the true position of the companies’ accounts with them within five days.

Justice Abang, however, ordered Union Bank to file an undertaken to indemnify the defendants in the event that the freezing order ought not to have been made.

“In line with Order 28 rule 2 of the rules of this court, an interim order is hereby made restraining the banks from allowing the defendants to operate their accounts with them, especially honouring withdrawal of funds.

“I think the dictate of justice demands that a preserving order should be made to preserve the res (subject matter) of this suit,” Justice Abang held.

Union Bank had sued Sani Dangote and his companies over alleged failure to liquidate about N5 billion debt despite repeated demands.

The bank, in two separate suits against Dangote and his companies, had sought a mareva injunction restraining all commercial banks in Nigeria from allowing withdrawal of funds from their accounts pending the determination of the suits.

When the matter came up for hearing on Thursday, the motion could not be heard as the defendants had filed objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.

Out of all the banks, Diamond and Zenith appeared before the court yesterday and explained that Dangote was equally indebted to them.

But while stating that he would entertain all the applications filed in the matter on September 11, Justice Abang said there was an urgent need to preserve the res in view of the allegation that the defendants were about to move the funds abroad.

Few days after 480 Nigerian soldiers fled to Cameroon after escaping from the hands of Boko Haram militants, another 400 have reportedly sought refuge there.

On Thursday Cameroon’s military said another batch of soldiers from Borno state have arrived Cameroon seeking refugee.

The Voice of America (VOA) quoted Cameroon state radio as saying that on Wednesday the soldiers ar- rived at the Cameroonian bor- der town of Amchide, where they handed their weapons to military officials.

The second marriage of Nollywood actor Ibrahim Chatta has ended in divorce.

Recall that the cute actor abandoned his first wife and son and eloped with the daughter of ex-Kwara Governor Alhaji Muhammed Lafiaji several months back.

Salamat Lafiaji has dissolved the marriage at an Ilorin Upper Area Court over lack of care, abandonment and violence.

Realising that the marriage had lost all the flavour of love and romance, the presiding judge, Hon. R.O. Bakare, said it was very clear to the court that there was no longer love between the couple and that both of them had lost interest in continuing with the union. The court consequently issued a certificate of divorce to Salamat.

Pretty Salamat had approached the court for the dissolution of her marriage to Chatta, claiming lack of care, abandonment and bad attitude towards the matrimonial home as reasons for the divorce suit. Salamat narrated, during hearing, how Chatta turned her into a punching bag. The union, which did not produce a child, was cemented only in April last year.

There was serious tension at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki today following a suspected case of Ebola virus infection.

The trouble started when a doctor told his colleagues that an Ebola patient has been admitted in the hospital.

The false alarm led doctors, nurses and patients to scamper out of the hospital premises.

“As we speak I have left the hospital and there is serious tension and panic there. Though, we are yet to confirm the report, but I believe it is not Ebola,”  – One of the doctors told our reporters over the phone.

It is pathetic that the current administration is out of touch with what is going on in the country presently.

Several months after Boko Haram kidnapped Chibok girls, a campaign tagged #bringbackourgirls started on the social media to aid the release of the girls but no success was recorded.

As we speak, the over 200 girls are still in Boko Haram’s camps while many of them have died of snake bites and sickness due to lack of care.

Four members of a robbery gang who were arrested by the Lagos State Police Command have said they usually prayed to God before any operation.
One of the suspected robbers, Mutalubi Abdullahi, explained that the prayer was to ensure that only ‘sinners’ would be dealt with by the gang, while the ‘innocent’ would be spared.
Abdullahi, who was arrested along with Ismaila Moruf, Opeyemi Akinyemi and Sarah Emmanuel, were arrested by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command, for robbing early morning pedestrians and motorists in the Mile 2 area of the state.
It was learnt that the gang, which operated on commercial motorcycles otherwise called okada, made use of three locally-made guns in their operations.
According to the police, the female member of the gang, Emmanuel, allegedly supplied two of the three guns. It was gathered that two of the guns had, however, been recovered by the police.
The police said the suspected robbers, who were arrested from their respective hideouts in Iyana Iyesi, Sango Ota, Ogun State, also operated in the Agege, Isolo and Oshodi areas.

According to reports, Boko Haram terrorists have killed 2 policemen after attacking the Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Two judges in California have been sanctioned after they were accused of having se.x in their respective chambers.
According to the Mirror, Scott Steiner and Cory Woodward were said to have both indulged in se.x acts with different women.
Woodward slept with a married court clerk in his chambers and Steiner also had se.x with a woman in a courthouse.
The judges got to keep their jobs but they were both publicly censured after being tried before a panel known as a Commission on Judicial Performance, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The commission wrote:
“Engaging in se.xual intercourse in the courthouse is the height of irresponsible and improper behavior by a judge."
