A 75-year-old female Dutch national, Jeanet De Jonge, has lost €200,000 to a 31-year-old Nigerian, Michael Adio in a romance scam.It was gathered that Adio, who had been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, pretended to be an American citizen, making it easy for Jonge to fall for him.

The EFCC, which described Adio as a confidence trickster, revealed that the man was an indigene of the Owu area of Ogun State.

Explaining how the suspect, perpetrated the act, the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said the victim and the suspect met on a dating site and started a relationship.
Uwujaren said,
 “Adio met the victim on the ‘Net log’ dating site and pretended to be a 41-year-old American citizen working as a chef in a Nigerian restaurant and needed a wife.The profile attracted Jeanet (Jonge) and, in no time, began sending him money through Western Union and Money Gram.”
It was gathered that Adio had told his victim that he wanted to meet her, but needed funds to get documents and perfect his travel plans.However, trouble was said to have started when Jonge did not see her hubby after sending money to him for almost two years.

Uwujaren said,
“Investigations revealed that the suspect collected various sums under the pretext that he was going to use the money to perfect his travel plans and obtain the required documents that would enable him travel to Holland to join or visit Jeanet.His inability or refusal to honour the invitation from Jeanet made her to be suspicious and prompted her to petition the EFCC.”
Adio, in his statement to the EFCC, said,
“She was sending me money monthly, ranging from $800 to $900 from June 2012 through Western Union Money transfer and Money Gram.There was a time the Western Union blocked her from sending money to me in Nigeria. So, she requested that I should go to London to enable her send me money there.I contacted a friend of mine in London, Osas Odiah, to receive the money and send to me here in Nigeria.She first sent €2,000 to my friend’s account in London, and later to my Keystone bank account, which was actually a Forex Trade account.We started using this account when we discovered that my friend was not remitting all the money sent by Jeanet (Jonge) to me.”
Uwujaren said the commission was still following up on some lead, adding that Adio would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation was concluded.

A guard wakes you up; you eat. You stay in your cell most of the time, basically 24 hours a day. Maybe on Mondays you go to the roof inside of a cage and have a phone call. It’s isolation. You have time to focus on what matters, on what to do and what not to do.My maturity level has risen as far as my realizing what’s important. Realizing that I’m human like everyone else. At the end of the day, it’s just a humbling experience. You’re more appreciative of everything else that’s on the outside. A burger tastes 1,000 times better when you’re out (Laughs.) I’m just more appreciative of the things I’m blessed with and the things I do: music, being able to take care of my family, being able to see my friends and family. And do what I love and still be able to do it in a timely fashion to where people don’t think, “Oh well, he fell off.” Still being able to be consistent.
On what he missed while in Jail

"I just missed my family. At the end of the day, music is definitely a passion. But when you’re dealing with your own personal issues, family is first. I just dealt with that. I missed my dad and mom, all my cousins ... seeing people’s faces and smiles ... seeing people who were just encouraging and positive.

When asked if there will be a day his relationship with Rihanna won't be brought up..

A French man has been jailed after phoning and texting his ex-girlfriend 21,807 times to demand that she thanks him for fixing up their flat.

The unnamed defendant admitted with hindsight that his actions 'were stupid'.
According to Mailonline,the defendant, who comes from Rhone in southern France, had already accepted responsibility for the barrage of phone calls and text messages over a 10-month period, and had accepted an earlier demand to cease contact with his ex.

It was only when she finally said thank you, during a meeting organised by a mediator, that the harassment stopped. He has not contacted her since.

'I tell myself, with hindsight, that it was stupid,' he told the court on Thursday.He was given a 10-month sentence, six months of which was suspended, and a 1,000-euro (£800) fine.

He will also have to undergo psychiatric treatment and is barred from all contact with the woman he harassed,

Worshippers at the Ereko circuit, Di­ocese of Lagos, Methodist Church of Nigeria, are protesting against the reinstatement of one of their priests, Rev Abayomi Okesanya who was sent on suspen­sion for alleged adultery. They have vowed to re­sist the return of the clergy to their midst.

His sin: His wife, Yemisi Okesanya accused him of impregnating another woman. Some members of the congregation, who spoke with Saturday Sun, claimed that they were shocked by his sudden return even when he is living with another woman apart from his legally married wife.

The church, which is located at No 18 Ereko Street, Idumota, Lagos, has Rev Moses Adebayo Si­yanbola as the presbyter and minister in-charge of the circuit.

A man and woman set to be joined in holy matrimony in Enugu were, yesterday, shot dead by gunmen suspected to be cult members.

According to Vanguard, Three other persons including the manager of a filling station were shot dead during the sporadic shooting by the unknown assailants who had laid siege on Abakpa and Trans-Ekulu area of Enugu.

The incident occurred Friday night at a filling station close to Dhamija Bridge opposite Our Lord’s Chosen Church, Trans-Ekulu on the Enugu – Onitsha Expressway.
Sources said the gunmen trailed the couple, who were finalizing arrangements for their wedding yesterday, to the filling station where they were said to be buying fuel.


The gunmen were said to have, on arrival at the station, shot sporadically at the bride and groom who were in their car buying fuel and they reportedly died on the spot.
The manager of the filling station, a pump attendant and another person buying fuel at the time were also shot dead by the gunmen who immediately thereafter fled in their waiting vehicle.

A man identified as Chigozie has reportedly died after he slumped at a night vigil.

The incident was said to have taken place at a Pentecos­tal church at Umuachara Akpa Mbato village, in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State while the vigil was going on. The man slumped twice, before he eventually died.

The pastor of the church whose name could not be im­mediately ascertained at the time of the report was said to have been arrested by the po­lice, while the body of the dead man was deposited in an un­disclosed hospital in Aba.

At last, the estranged wife of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder of Chris Embassy has spoken on why she ended her marriage.

Rev Anita Oyakhilome in a new statement said that she had been denied her right as a wife and her hubby has distanced himself from her and that she has no option than to call it quit.

There had been media reports that Anita decided to divorce Pastor Chris based on allegations of ‘adultery’ and ‘unreasonable behaviours’ but a copy of the court papers for the divorce process filed at the Principal Registry of the Family Division (PRFD) of the High Court of Justice in possession of THISDAY, revealed that she applied for “divorce on the ground that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.”

In her statement of case in support of petition at PRFD with number FD14001650, Pastor Anita however, accused her husband of having inappropriate relationship with some of his female staff members which many can liken to adultery.

According to the statement, “the wife has discussed with the husband his iappropriate relationship with some of his female staff members. She has explained that this has given her cause for concern. The husband has minimised her worries and taken no step to alleviate her grievances.”

The statement reads in part: “The wife submits that her marriage to the husband has irretrievably broken down and there is no hope of reconciliation. The wife will submit that it is the husband’s unreasonable behaviours which have led to this.

“The husband and the wife are both Pastors. The husband undertakes his work, in the main, in South Africa and Nigeria. The wife lives in the United Kingdom. The wife will say that they have lived separately for 16 years and over this time have drifted apart. The wife has come to realise that the husband will only visit the UK for annual church programmes that he holds rather than to be with this wife. The wife feels that he has been unavailable as a father to their children during their developing years.

“The wife feels that their marriage suffered under the pressure of their work. They would rarely spend time together due to the husband inavailability. Special occasions such as Christmas, Birthdays and family occasions and anniversaries past them by and their rarely spent any time together as a family as the husband was more devoted to his work than he was to them.

“The wife feels that she has been used to portray and enhance the husband’s image as a family man when the reality is that there is no existing relationship between them. She feels that she has been present for official functions simply for his convenience. On occasions she has been copied into his travel itinerary which has been given to him by his staff on a need to know basis.

“The wife has tried to discuss her concerns with the husband. He claims that she is carnal and he is insensitive to her feelings and her needs.”

“As a result of the husband’s attitude to their marriage, the wife will say that he is virtually not recognised as a married man in the ministry. His teachings and beliefs on marriage is that the husband is a master and a controller and the wife will say that his concept of biblical; submission is so extreme that it is impossible for her to meet his expectations. She feels humiliated by the way he treats her in the presence of his close female staff members and she feels that she has been taken for granted which has become unbearably stressful for her.

“The wife will say that the relationship with the husband is non-existent to the point that his itinerary which was announced publicly at the beginning of the year had no provision for time with his family. His staff members who travel with him organise both his personal and professional life without any input from her. The wife will say that she is treated with disregard almost like akin to an intruder.

“The wife feels that she has been mentally, physically and emotionally deprived of the experience of a marital relationship. She feels that the husband has persistently judged her and his communication with her has been unduly harsh. The wife knows that he was hard to please and has been extremely critical.

Hmmmm, Rev Anita must have passed through a lot… 16 years of separation is a bit too long. No wonder she suddenly snapped.

The highest paid actor in the Yoruba movie industry, Odunlade Adekola has a secret many of his fans are unaware of and it is the pillar of his marriage, his wife, Mrs Abosede Ruth Adekola.

The mother of Odunlade’s three children in a recent interview briefly narrated how their paths crossed during a church program in Abeokuta. Ruth also explained briefly why she doesn’t make friends.

How did you meet Odunlade?

We are both members of the same church. We met during a night vigil at Christ Apostolic Church in Sabo area of Abeokuta back in 1995 where we started as friends.



Before the vigil, were you seeing each other?

Yeah! We had been seeing each other for a very long time but that vigil was the first time of talking to each other. He is far older than me; I normally described him as a big brother to me anyway. That was in 1995.

After meeting in 1995, when did the love thing come into it?

Initially, when he approached me that he likes me, that he wouldn’t mind to getting married to me, I was unsure of him, but in the long run, God made everything possible.

You are such a person who doesn’t talk neither attending parties like other celebrities’ wives, why?

That was how I was created. I am a kind of person who doesn’t have appetite for troubles, and I don’t do beyond what I know. You can’t give what you don’t have. I am just cool with the kind of person God made me. As you are seeing me, I have no friends and I really appreciate that.

Why don’t you make friends?

This is because I can’t cope with friends. If I create space for them to move closer to me, they will be feeding me series of gossip that are not real simply because they want to chase me out of my matrimony. My marriage with Odunlade grew and very strong because I chose not to keep any friend. If would leave Odunlade for a very long time even before he became a star if I had kept one.
