Rwanda Senate President BellaNaija
Kigali (dpa/NAN) – The President of the Rwandan Senate, Jean-Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, resigned on Wednesday after he was accused of incompetence.

He was succeeded by his deputy, Bernard Makuza.

Ntawukuriryayo cited personal reasons for the decision to stand down.

He resigned after senators accused him of creating administrative blockages in the upper house of parliament, and of illegally hiring staff.

Ntawukuriryayo heads the Social Democratic Party, the country’s second-biggest party, which is in a coalition government with President Paul Kagame‘s Rwandan Patriotic Front.

Some analysts said his departure could be linked to his close relations with former Prime Minister Pierre Habumuremyi who was sacked in July.

Habumuremyi has denied allegations that he had connections with the Congo-based rebel movement Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda which has staged attacks in Rwanda.

6  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Immigration Arrests Suspected Human Traffic Kingpin in Enugu on: 18-09-2014 07:07 AM

The Nigeria Immigration Service, Enugu State Command, says it has nabbed one Koffi Hassan, a Sierra Leonean, who specializes in trafficking women out of Nigeria for prostitution.

The Immigration Comptroller, Bashir Ismail, disclosed this on Wednesday in an interview with NAN in Enugu.

He said that Hassan, an alleged human traffic kingpin, who had been on their wanted list, was arrested following a tip-off.

“Human trafficking has been a challenge in this part of the country.

“Just last month we succeeded in arresting one notorious human trafficker called Koffi, who has been involved in human trafficking of women and involving them in prostitution.

“We were able to arrest that kingpin. We have now forwarded him for prosecuting. After prosecution we will definitely repatriate him.

“That’s a great achievement for us; we have been challenged for this kind of things around this area.

“And that will signal to those who are involved in that to desist from it. Victims that are with him confessed what he uses them for and NAPTIP has succeeded in reuniting them with their families,” he said.

Ismail said that the command had embarked on the repatriation of irregular aliens in the state.

He said that such people had caused security breaches in the state and had become threats to their host communities.

“The service decided to embark on regular repatriation and removal of such kind of citizens that are among us.

“So far between January and now we have removed over 98 people out of Enugu. We have to be on it and to be fair and be frank we have been getting great support from Enugu State government.

“These people we remove are from our efforts to go and flush them out from the communities in which they live. They have become a threat to them.

“Then we also get people referred to us due to our synergy from other security agencies. Whenever they have such kind of people arrested among other criminals, they do refer to us then we take action.

“We are very happy with that because the synergy has been working very well. That’s why we were able to repatriate such number.

“Most of the nationals are from Niger Republic, Togo and Mali and a few Beninois and the Cameroonians,” he said.

He said that citizens from West African were entitled to stay in any member state under certain regulations backed up by prescribed documents.

Ismail said that those without the required documents would be vulnerable to manipulation and could commit criminal offenses without records.

Two warring cult groups have unleashed terror on the quiet town of Ibaa in Emohua LGA of Rivers State Nigeria.

According to police report, the rivalry war claimed the lives of 10 people.

New Police Commissioner for the state, Dan Bature made this known yesterday during a visit to the troubled region.

Bature said the gang members injured many residents during the free-for-all attack.

The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the Mortuary in the area while the injured have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The police claimed that a longstanding chieftancy tussle in the area and the lingering political differences among stakeholders triggered the mayhem.

During his condolence visit to Ibaa town to console the families of the victims, CP Bature said: “I sympatise with all of you ( residents) over the unfortunate incident. I am in your midst to inform you that the police in the Rivers State command under my control will continue to provide maximum security to ensure all residents of this state will continue to sleep with their two eyes closed every day.”.

10  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / “TB Joshua Deceived Our People” – South Africans Blast Nigerian Prophet on: 18-09-2014 06:47 AM

Few days after the collapse of a guest at his church in Ikotun Lagos, controversial Nigerian Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua has come under fire from South Africans.

A South African public affairs commentator, Allan Taylor, expressed concerns over the number his fellow citizens killed in the tragedy.

South African President, Jacob Zuma, on Tuesday noted that in recent times, the country had not witnessed the death of a large number of her citizens in one incident in a foreign land.

Alan Taylor lamented that TB Joshua was allegedly deceiving and luring South Africans to his church in Nigeria.

Taking a swipe at TB Joshua, he accused him of unfairly personalising the tragedy at the expense of the “unfortunate victims.”

“I’m saddened by the death of up to 67 South Africans in the Nigerian church collapse and at the hands of TB Joshua’s greed. It is also important to expose those who lured the unfortunate victims to Nigeria on false pretences.

“Innocent lives of people have been lost; yet TB Joshua makes the tragedy about himself. He is a disgrace,” the enraged South African wrote on Twitter.

Another Bloemfontein-based South African, Portia Tsotetsi, said TB Joshua owed the families of her compatriots lost in the building collapse some answers.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the 67 South Africans who lost their lives in Nigeria. What bothers me most is the silence of TB Joshua and his church concerning the 67 who died.

“Where are messages of condolence? When is the church (SCOAN) offering a statement of condolences to the families? When is TB Joshua speaking about this tragedy? What bothers me is the amount of blind loyalists who refuse to see facts. They will do anything to protect their church,” Tsotetsi tweeted.

May their souls rest in perfect peace (amen)
