A 44-year old man, Edafiake Augustine, a father of five, has been arrested by the men of the ‘B’ Division, Warri, of the Delta state police command for allegedly impregnating a 12-year -old girl.
The expectant mother (names withheld), a primary four pupil, after being taken through a pregnancy test, which confirmed her to be 32 weeks pregnant, confessed to her family that she had been lured by their neighbour, Edafiake, into segxwal act. The Nation gathered the girl’s stepmother was the first to notice the changes in her body development as well as some new behavioural patterns that could suggest pregnancy in her. Her father, who also started paying attention to his wife’s observations, took the pregnant girl for a pregnancy test and found out that his daughter had been pregnant for three months. When sounded out by her family, the girl told her family that their neighbour, Augustine, had been taking advantage of her, seizing moments when her step-mother was out to lure her into bed, adding that her abuser had been giving her between N1,000 and N1,500 each time he slept with her, warning her not to tell her parents. Although he denied ever having sex with the girl when confronted by her family, he seemed to have opened up to his own relatives, who had reached out to the pregnant girl’s family to plead for settlement. Corroborating the allegation against Augustine, his wife, in her statement, had alleged that she had been suspicious of a foul play between her husband and the adolescent. Meanwhile, the family of the pregnant girl, it was gathered, would either have Augustine marry their daughter, paying the full bride price, according to Urhobo tradition, or be made to face legal action. When The Nation visited the ‘B’ Division on Friday, the accused was still being held in custody, with police authorities insisting that he would be prosecuted.

Today is a sad day for Dame Mobola Erogbogbo, the mother of the late Olatunji Okunsanya Jnr who died with his father, Olatunji Okusanya, in the Associated Airline which crashed near the Lagos Airport terminal a year ago. Erogbogbo had lived and showed her son motherly love until the cold hands of death snatched him away. She told our reporter at her office situated in Shomolu, Lagos mainland that for the grace of God and support of people, losing her son has been a terrible experience that she is still fighting hard to cope with. She explained that the late Olatunji Jnr on October 2, last year dropped her off at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on her way to London for an exhibition. Right after checking her in, Junior, fondly called Jay, insisted that the mother must take a photograph with him before departing. “On October 2, last year, Tunji Junior was the one that took me to the airport. I was going to England for an exhibition. He took me to the airport and we checked in. As I was about to go in, he said: ‘Mummy come back. I want us to take photograph together’ and I jokingly said to him: ‘Jay, what do you mean by photograph? I hope you want me to get to this London safely because we have never taken photograph at the airport before’. I asked him why he wanted the photo. He said: ‘Mummy, let’s just take it’ and an employee who accompanied us to the airport took the photograph and he immediately sent it to the sister in London, even before I got there. “While we were on board, there was a little turbulence and my mind flashed back to the photograph and it created anxiety in me but I had no clue that it had nothing to do with me but was all about my dear son. “When I arrived in the UK, I tried his father’s line to inform him that I had arrived safely but his line did not go through. I called his line and luckily it rang and we spoke extensively. I even told him about the turbulence we experienced on air and my fear about the picture. We laughed about it and he told me about the publication that Thisday did on him and he was so excited about it and wanted me to see it. I had no clue that it was going to be my last discussion with him. “In the morning, I woke up and my grandson came to my room and appealed that I should put on the computer for him for 10 minutes because his parents won’t allow him to watch TV during the week, and when they all left home, I decided to go and sleep but I could not sleep. I tried to put on the TV but could not until my daughter came back and put the TV on Sky News and I saw the news highlight: ‘Associated Airline crashed in Nigeria, two dead”. I shouted and informed my daughter that it was Junior’s plane because I was aware of the arrangement for the company to convey Agagu’s body to Akure before I left Nigeria. “ It was about 9.45am and we called Junior’s phone and it rang but no response. We started calling Nigeria, but nobody was willing to tell us anything, and people I had not spoken to for a long time were all calling me and my daughter and it was at that time I knew something had gone wrong. “All of them refused to tell us the true situation until a family friend called and I asked him not to lie to us about what had happened. He said ‘Mummy, it’s all about you’ and I know that the worst had happened. “It was like a dream and it has not been an easy experience. I had to cancel my booking for the exhibition and come back to Nigeria. “I was very fond of him. We were living together and he was supposed to get married this year, and each time I teased him about scattering things, he would say it was only for a while that when he got married, I would be the one missing and sending for him. I did not know that it was not going to be.” She said the late Junior loved birds and the environment, adding that it was in preserving his memory that Jay’s Garden would be launched today to promote the preservation of garden birds and the environment. “Jay’s Garden is basically a section of Merry Maid Water Garden. He was a bird lover, just like me, but he was more of a fanatic and these things just evolved while we were cleaning up this place. When the idea came, we decided to call it Jay Garden’s because apart from my son being called Jay, there is a bird also called Jay. “He got the love for birds from me and his dad who was a bird lover too. They had some bird cages with all sort of birds in their office at MIC Funeral Undertakers. But he was more into it than us. “On Saturday morning in the house, he would just sit down, even with his last kobo, he would buy food for birds. “Jay’s Garden is far beyond this space. It is all encompassing; we are going to have competition and we will have talk for school children. It will be a foundation that will continually get young people involved in looking and respecting garden birds. Some children just stand on the road and they start stoning birds; part of what Jay’s Garden stands for will be to discourage children from doing that and educating them that the birds that they don’t care about are very important in our lives because these birds eat up insects that could affect our food crop, bugs as well.”

A Nigerian woman has rushed to her death early this morning in Iganmu area of Lagos.
The unidentified woman was said to be rushing to catch a fast moving train heading to Apapa Ijoko from Iganmu this morning when she fell on the rail track.
Another train reportedly crushed her while she was struggling to free herself from the track.

As Liberia plans to prosecute Thomas Eric Duncan for travelling to the USA with Ebola, a Liberian cab driver Jiminez Grugbaye has opened up on how he may have gotten infected .He said back in Liberia, he carried a 19 year old pregnant woman by name ,Nathaline Williams who was bleeding from her mouth on the 15th of September ,and mr Thomas was one of the five people in his cab.According to NBC news "Grugbaye said Williams was bleeding from her mouth, but he was told she bit her tongue and was having a miscarriage, and was reassured that she did not have Ebola. “She was helpless. She, she was not able to walk by herself,” he said. Williams’ family and the others caring for her assisted her. He believes Duncan sat in front with him when they left but was in the back on return with the pregnant patient, named in some reports as Duncan helped carry Williams across a footbridge when they got home. She died hours later, and in the following days her brother died and today both parents are hospitalized with suspected Ebola. Four days after Duncan's counter with Ebola-stricken Williams, he boarded a plane for Brussels, Belgium. From there, he flew on a United Airlines flight to Washington Dulles International Airport, where he was allowed into the country. Duncan then flew to Dallas, where he stayed with his girlfriend for five days while Ebola began to run its course. Joan Rivers’ daughter is moving ahead with plans to sue the doctor at the center of an investigation into her mother’s death, a friend has said. Dr. Gwen Korovin is suspected of triggering the 81-year-old comedian’s demise by performing an unscheduled biopsy on her. NewYorkDaily also reports that he continues to see patients and is even accepting new ones.
“It’s very difficult to discuss something so unpleasant with her, but she is going to launch a lawsuit,” a friend of Melissa Rivers told the Daily Mail.
“Korovin maintains privileges at one of the city’s most prestigious hospitals. She is respected and admired by her peers in the medical community and she is revered by her patients,” Korovin’s lawyer, Michael Kelton, said in a statement released to the Daily Mail.
Rivers went into cardiac and respiratory arrest on Aug. 28 while undergoing a throat procedure at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic on the Upper East Side. She died at Mount Sinai Hospital on Sept. 4.

A second year male student of Rivers State Polytechnichas died today after students claimed the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the school physically assaulted him. The student was allegedly beaten by the Chief security officer which however led to him slumping and dying on the spot.
According to an eyewitness, an ambulance was quickly called to carry the body of the student away from the school premises, which led to riot by angry students who mobbed the Chief Security Officer, vandalized and looted the computer centre as well.
The entrance to the school was also barricaded by the angry students temporarily causing a heavy traffic a jam, before the students left the campus into main Bori town where they allegedly looted some shops. Anti-riot policemen, who were called in, freely used tear-gas canisters on the students to disperse them, before the management of the school finally shut it down and suspended examinations.
