Katy White, of Bishop Road, Ammanford, is 4ft 11in and her hair, which flows to the back of her knees, measures 3ft 4in. In her 12 year life she has only had her hair cut three times (apart from the time she cut her own fringe). ‘There was a time, when Katy was about six, when she decided to cut two big chunks out of the front of her hair,’ said mother Barbara. There was a time, when Katy was about six, when she decided to cut two big chunks out of the front of her hair,’ said mother Barbara. ‘I saw the hair in the bin and assumed Katy had thrown a doll away. When I pulled the hair out I turned around and saw that Katy had two huge steps in the front of her hair. Apart from that she’s only ever had it trimmed at the hairdressers, and only three times.’

But as well as attracting admirers, Katy’s hair also creates it own problems. ‘It may be beautiful but it can also be pretty deadly,’ laughed Barbara. ‘She practices the martial art Choi Kwang Do, and to do that we have to put her hair in a plait. ‘The only problem is that when she SPINS, her hair whips round, and people have to move out of the way. It’s like a secret weapon.’

On average, Katy’s hair takes an hour to wash and just as long to dry. ‘People stop me to ask about my hair all the time, I’m used to it now,’ said Katy.  ‘I can’t imagine having it cut, although I do have it tied back most of the time, especially when I’m in school.’  Having never officially had her hair measured, hairdresser Lisa Bryan from Bedazzled, in Ammanford, stepped forward to measure Katy’s mane.

‘I haven’t ever seen hair this long before,’ said Lisa. ‘It clearly is well looked after.’ Despite its head-turning capabilities, a spokesperson from the Guinness World Record said Katy’s hair is not yet record-breaking but added: ‘That is some long hair for a girl of her age.’ Asha Mandela and her 55ft long dreadlocks currently hold the world title.
 

A young girl’s leg has shrivelled and turned completely black after being bitten by a snake, Carcaras, Venezuela.

The unnamed 13-year-old girl suffers severe leg necrosis – the premature death of cells - caused  by the snake’s venom. The poison caused the tissue in her leg to die, leaving it withered and rotten. A month later she was eventually brought to local hospital for medical treatment.

One of the doctors said that the girl will need her leg amputated but is still likely to die from the snake venom. Being treated with local remedies probably meant she was given antibiotics, but not anti-venom treatment to adequately control poisoning from the snake venom.
Commenting the photo he said, “The whole lower leg is black, it’s spreading up. Looking at the rest of her body she’s showing signs of muscle wastage from the poison. Her other leg is thin. It’s likely she will still die.”

he photograph’s caption said the girl also suffered a broken elbow from the incident with the snake bite. The bite caused a laceration to the artery in her leg and the resulting bleeding led to what’s known as ‘compartment syndrome’. This is a serious condition when pressure within a compartment such as the leg causes a decrease in blood supply to the affected muscles.

German Expatriate Shot Dead in Ogun State Nigeria While Working For Julius Berger, Another Kidnapped

Suspected kidnappers last Friday attacked a vehicle conveying construction company Julius Berger’s workers to Sagamu in Ogun State, killing one.

The expatriates who were Germans were ambushed on their way to Ogbere.

A source at Julius Berger said the victims are sub-contractors at the construction company.

The source said, “One expatriate, a sub-contractor to Julius Berger, was shot and has subsequently died, while the other expatriate, a staff of Julius Berger, has been abducted.

“Julius Berger is currently working in close cooperation with the Nigerian authorities to make certain the safe and prompt release of the person abducted.”
 

Nollywood actor Kenneth Okolie has broken up with his second girlfriend in less than one year.

Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has expressed interest in joining politics like his colleagues in the thriving entertainment industry.

In a recent interview with Leadership, Zack Orji said he wouldn’t mind being honoured with a political appointment.

In his own words:

“If it agrees with me, yes. We are all called to serve in different regards. You may be called to serve spiritually, you may be called to serve your country in one capacity or another, it all depends.

I have shouldered responsibilities over the years. As far back as 1978, I was the leader of a delegation of Nigerian students who were sponsored by the French embassy on a three-week holiday programme in Lome, Togo.

There were about sixty students from Nigeria and I was the leader of that delegation. Right from time, I have served in one way or the other in different capacities, so it all depends.

If it’s something that agrees with me; why not? In my secondary school, I was senior prefect. I was the old Anambra state school champion in shot-put and discus. I even represented the state in the national sports competition from my University.

I was also the president of Estate Department Students’ Association.
Also, when asked about how he relate with his fans, Zack said: “ I just try to be nice to everyone.

This job has taught me to be humble, because just a smile can make someone’s day, just a ‘hi’ and spending few minutes to say “How are you?” can really make someone happy.

I have come to take it in my stride, though sometimes it is not convenient for me, but I believe that anyone who must acknowledge somebody else must first of all humble himself to do that.

We think Zack Orji, Olu Jacobs, Pete Edochie and other veteran actors deserve one of those political appointments.

It's common knowledge that some Nigerians are being stigmatized in some countries, over Ebola .Some have been denied entry into some countries over the disease ..Reacting to this development in  a statement issued by Special Adviser on Media & Publicity to the President,Reuben Abati

"President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said Monday in Abuja that he expects and hopes that Nigerians will no longer suffer discriminatory checks and stigmatization abroad now that the World Health Organisation has certified that the country is Ebola-free.

Speaking at an audience with the Foreign Ministers of Germany and France who called on him at the Presidential Villa, President Jonathan restated the Federal Government’s displeasure over the stigmatization of Nigerians by some countries after the Ebola virus entered Nigeria in July through a Liberian traveller.

He maintained that there was never any justifiable basis for the stigmatization of Nigerians since Ebola was rapidly contained in the country and never attained epidemic levels.

He told the French Foreign Minister, Mr. Laurent Fabius and the German Foreign Minister, Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier that Nigeria will remain fully vigilant to prevent the re-entry of the virus because the Federal Government recognizes that the country will remain at risk as long as Ebola is active other West African countries or any other part of the world.

Nigeria, President Jonathan assured the visiting Ministers, will therefore cooperate fully with other concerned nations to stop the current outbreak of Ebola in West Africa as quickly as possible.

The Ministers told the President that they were in Nigeria to seek further cooperation with the Federal Government in the growing global effort to contain the current outbreak and continuing spread of the Ebola Virus Disease.

They praised Nigeria’s successful containment of the virus and expressed the desire of France, Germany and the European Union to collaborate more with Nigeria in helping other West African countries where the virus still remains active.

A New report by Human Rights Watch reveals the damage done to girls and women abducted by Boko Haram .

Its report, Those Terrible Weeks in Their Camp: Boko Haram Violence Against Women and Girls in North-east Nigeria, is based on interviews with 30 women and girls abducted between April 2013 and April 2014, plus 16 people who witnessed kidnappings.

The women and girls were held in eight different camps for periods ranging from two days to three months, after being taken from their homes, while working on farms, fetching water or at school.
A 15-year-old girl who was held in a Boko Haram camp for four weeks in 2013 said....
“After we were declared married I was ordered to live in his cave but I always managed to avoid him. He soon began to threaten me with a knife to have sex with him, and when I still refused he brought out his gun, warning that he would kill me if I shouted. Then he began to rape me every night. He was a huge man in his mid-30s and I had never had sex before. It was very painful and I cried bitterly because I was bleeding afterwards.”
 One woman said:

“I was dragged to the camp leader who told me the reason I was brought to the camp was because we Christians worship three gods. When I objected to his claim, he tied a rope around my neck and beat me with a plastic cable until I almost passed out. An insurgent who I recognised from my village convinced me to accept Islam lest I should be killed. So I agreed.”
 A 19-year-old said:
“I was told to approach a group of five men we saw in a nearby village and lure them to where the insurgents were hiding.” She told the young men that she needed help. “When they followed me for a short distance, the insurgents swooped on them. Once we got back to the camp, they tied the legs and the hands of the captives and slit the throats of four of them as they shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’. Then I was handed a knife to kill the last man. I was shaking with horror and couldn’t do it. The camp leader’s wife took the knife and killed him.”
 One 15-year-old girl said:
“I could not stop crying even when the insurgents threatened to kill me if I did not keep quiet. I kept on thinking, is it not better to die now than to face whatever terrible things they could do to me when we get to their camp? Even after I escaped from them and live far away from my village, I am still afraid. I think of death many times. My father tries. He encourages me to forget everything, but it is not easy for me. I have terrible dreams at night.
Many of those interviewed by HRW showed signs of stress and anguish, according to the report, although only the Chibok girls had been offered limited counselling.
 

A Police officer who served in the Nigeria Police Force for about 30 years has been rendered blind by a naval rating. The plan of ASP Emmanuel Mbilla(before/after above)was to retire in 2018 after which he would set up his own private security firm.
However, Emmanuel’s dream was cut short on February 22, 2014 after a life-changing encounter with a naval rating, Warrant officer Unaji Enejor, in the Kirikiri area of Lagos State.

Punch reports that the 50-year-old victim was attacked in the eye by the naval rating, causing him to lose his sight completely.It was learnt that prior to the attack, Emmanuel’s left eye had already been damaged by Glaucoma.

The victim’s landlady, Mrs. Olasumbo Agunbiade, who witnessed the incident, told our correspondent that trouble started after Enejor drove recklessly and rammed into Emmanuel’s wife’s shop.

She said,
“I am the landlady of the property at 25, Agunbiade Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa. Emmanuel’s wife, Caroline, sells drinks right in front of the house. Around 3.30pm on February 22, Emmanuel and his wife were seated in front of the shop when a man in a red Honda car rammed into their shop.When Emmanuel accosted the driver, the man alighted from the vehicle and identified himself as a navy man and Emmanuel in turn, identified himself as a police officer. The man wanted to leave but Emmanuel told him that he could not leave without at least apologising and the navy man just used his car key to poke Emmanuel in the eye.Emmanuel fell to the floor and started screaming, ‘I have lost my sight’. When the navy man saw the severity of the injury he had inflicted on Emmanuel, he jumped into his car and sped off. However, as residents were chasing him, he drove into a gutter and we arrested him.”
Our correspondent learnt that as residents were attempting to take Enejor to the Kirikiri Police Station, two of his colleagues on a motorcycle, arrived the scene and started beating the residents in a bid to rescue their colleague.
It was learnt that a few minutes later, the crowd was able to overwhelm the navy men and the suspect was taken to the Kirikiri Police Division but was later released.
However, there was no respite for Emmanuel who was taken to about four hospitals where he was told that he may never see again.

A medical report issued by the Eye Foundation Hospital and signed by Dr. Olufemi Oderinlo, the Consultant Opthalmic surgeon/Vitereoretinal specialist on March 3, stated that the victim would need to be flown abroad for treatment for any hope of regaining his sight.

The victim’s older wife, Patience, told Punch that life had been hard since her husband went blind.Patience said her husband, who is attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, required 24-hour monitoring and this had affected the family.She called on well-meaning Nigerians and the government to come to their aid.

She said,
 “I am asking Nigerians, the government, and especially that of Abia State to come to our aid. We are asking Senator Uche Chukwumerije, who represents Abia-North, to help us. We have been seriously affected and we have spent so much on my husband’s treatment. Also, we are demanding for justice for my husband.The Commissioner of Police is aware of the matter. Nobody is above the law. My husband did not fight the navy man but is now completely blind as a result of a savage and brutal yet unprovoked attack. Unfortunately, he was released while my husband was still in the hospital.”
