Sam Ogunnoiki, who works as a security guard at Stout Security Ltd headquartered in Cornwall, UK, has been told not to go to work over fears he may have Ebola after visiting Nigeria.

The 46 year old British citizen, faces a three-week quarantine from his employers who told him that he needs to get the all-clear from a British doctor before he can go back to work. Below is the letter (in full) his direct boss sent to him
"I have spoken to you and expressed my very deep concerns about your trip to Nigeria. Several members of staff have now voiced their concerns about the possibility of your carrying the Ebola virus back with you and have made it very clear that they are extremely reluctant to work with you on your return." One member of staff has even written a clear and concise letter stating the concerns of your work colleagues. In this case I have to support their concerns especially as I have already voiced them personally to you. In order to allay any fears that you are a carrier for this deadly virus I feel I cannot allow you to return to work until you have been back in the United Kingdom for three weeks, which is the incubation period. I must also request that you visit your doctor on your return and get a clean bill of health before you can start work with us. I am very sorry about this Sam but everyone works in close proximity together and I have to put the concerns of the majority first.’
Sam, who said he's on a zero-hours contract now worries about not being paid. He said:
‘Nigeria does not have Ebola but he said I have to be cleared. There is this stigma surrounding me now – it’s just ignorance and a nightmare because I cannot work. I’m a British citizen. There is no justification for this at all.’
The boss who sent the letter, Mr Mannell, later defended his position saying:
‘I did send Sam a letter saying anyone returning from any African countries for safety reasons cannot work for three weeks afterwards. I know Nigeria is Ebola-free but I don’t know where he’s travelled. My problem is that Pendennis [shipyard], which I have a contract with, sent me an email saying they cannot have anyone working there that’s been in contact with Sam."

The new trend of entertainers joining politics in Nigeria has seen another entertainer Majek Fashek declear interest in joining politics come 2015 but only to support the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, and push him for re-election in next year’s general election.

The ‘Send Down The Rain’ singer who ruled Nigerian music in the early 90s believes he has the power to support political aspirants next year.

“Next year, I’m going to be entering into politics. I am going to be in the PDP”, Majek declared. “I will support the president. I will support the president and the governor, that’s why I enter into politics. With my knowledge in the American world, presidency is not my calling, I’m a revolutionary musician, so what I can do with the power God gave to me is to support the government so that they can help the poor.”

Majek Fashek also revealed that he has no interest in occupying Aso Rock. For him, it is too much of work to be the president.

“The presidency is too much work, I don’t like it. Instead of me to become a president, I will support the president.”

Majek Fashek also believes we are in an era of political transformation, and the only good choice of government lies in continuation.

“In 2015, I am supporting Goodluck Jonathan, because he needs a second term like Obama. We are in the political era, and we are going into political transition. We either re-elect Goodluck Jonathan or somebody else. But so far, I think Goodluck needs second term to try his best.”

Majek Fashek will be performing at the ‘Africa Meets Reggae And World Music International Festival’ on November 29, at the National Stadium, Lagos. He will be joined by other veteran acts such as Victor Essiet, Ortis Williki and Righteous Man.

THE decomposing remains of two lovers, simply identified as Udogi Eguke and Ese, were found on Sunday, days after they died in mysterious circumstances in their Makolomi Street apartment of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The house owner, Chief Alfred Onavwa, who shares the top floor of the one-storey building with one of the deceased, confirmed the incident.
 
He said having been contacted on the absence of one of the deceased by neighbours, he called his line only to realize that his mobile phone was ringing upstairs.
He explained further: “On getting close to the door of the private stairway leading to their apartment, I noticed that it was locked from inside, with a stench oozing out.

“On realizing this, I personally invited the police who came and broke the door only to discover their decomposing bodies.
“Their remains were later deposited in the mortuary and I was made to understand that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
“Even the Ughelli Divisional Police Officer was here to see things for himself.”

Meanwhile, findings revealed that the couple, whose wedding was slated for November 22, had started preparation, with invitation cards already sent out to intending guests.

You must have been following this story of fast-rising singer Saeon and Wizkid..She paid Wizkid 1.5m to feature on her track and later claimed he didn't even tweet the link on social media.Wizkid then said he even helped her by collecting 1.5m because he didn't want to do the track.He also said she should be happy he gave her a hit track..

Cashing in on the controversy, her camp is not backing down as her manager at the time , Alex Adegbenro granted an interview to Chi Chi of UDR Radio NYC...He said...
"Contrary to Wizkid’s claims, Saeon at no point made any contact with the kid, until I set up a first meet up.
It’s funny when he said she slept in front of his house to beg him, I feel that’s a figure of speech and I feel it’s still wrong for him to say that.
She never had his contact, he also forgot that he started the same way, sleeping at OJB’s studio crying after M.I and so on. As a matter of fact, myself and his manger were the ones discussing, his manger, Godwin Tom gave us a fee, we disagreed with the fee and told him what we could afford was N1.5 m and then he came back to us and said they’ll take it.
Here’s what I think, Wizkid has contradicted himself already, he’s either not a thinker, or he has consumed himself with so much pride. Why would she pay you and then beg you. And I remember he gave us a list of producers he could work with, he said it was either, Samklef, Sarz or Maleek Berry and we picked Sarz and then when he heard the beat Sarz made, he didn’t like it, so he called Sarz and was like ‘dude, you know my new sound, why do you keep making beats like this.
So we went back the second time and Maleek Berry just laced a beat and the song happened like a freestyle. I’m just a bit disappointed in him, I personally think the part of his statement where he said he would beat up Saeon shouldn’t be left alone. Well, if you look at it on the bright side, I think this whole thing has helped Saeon.

Veteran actress Idowu Phillips, popularly known as Iya Rainbow, tells Ademola Olonilua of Punch about her career and life as a widow. It is an interesting read. Enjoy:




How did you get the stage name Iya Rainbow?
The name of my late husband’s group is Osumare Theatre and I was always referred to as Mama Osumare but there was a day I did a movie for the English-speaking section of the industry and the name of the film is The Vow. In the movie, robbers came to my house and killed my child and I was meant to react like anyone would in real life. I cried and tore my clothes. After the director yelled cut, I was still crying, so some Igbo boys on set came to ask why I was still crying. They wanted to call my name but could not pronounce Osumare, so I told them it meant rainbow in English. They were amazed and said they would be calling me Mama Rainbow which they felt was easier and that was how the name stuck.

How did you meet your late husband?
I was made the matron of his theatre group. Then, I always assisted them and whenever they had their anniversary, I helped with arrangements and invitations. I can’t really remember how it happened, all I know is that we got attracted to each other and got married. We did not stay together for long before he died. I lost my husband in 1984 and sometimes, I think he just came to this world to work for me because I am reaping from where he had sown.

What led to his death?
He was sick for about two and a half years and we tried everything possible to get him well but no luck. Whenever he was tested at the hospital, the doctors always said they could not figure out what was wrong with him. Till now, I don’t understand what happened but God knows best. My husband told me in several dreams that all those involved in his death would die and it happened.

Why didn’t you re-marry since 1984 when you became a widow?
I didn’t re-marry because many men are liars and I don’t like that. They come to your house, feel comfortable, you cook for them and probably have sex with them and then they say ‘I would see you tomorrow,’ but you will never see them again. I don’t like that. It is better for someone to carry one’s cross. It is just that it is not easy to raise children. I advise widows to walk in my footsteps, I know it is not easy not to re-marry but with prayers, God would help them. For instance, if I had re-married, I probably would have had other children and I would be the one to see them through school at my old age and the man might even leave me. I thought about all these and I decided to face parenthood.

Didn’t you have suitors or a man you had interest in?
They came but they later ran away. I don’t want to mention names but there was a man who came to my house to visit me, he was my suitor then. When he came, he saw my husband’s group members eating and playing in my house. He asked me if they were all my children and I said they were. He said, ‘okay, I am coming.’ He left and that was the last I saw of him. Instead of him to have asked if I gave birth to all the people he saw, he just assumed I did and left. He must have considered the responsibility and felt it was too much for him to bear, so he ran. That was what they did, they ran away when they saw the number of my children.
