Aminu Tambuwal Asks IGP To Be Jailed For Contempt

House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal asks IGP to be jailed for contempt. In the application filed by his counsel, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Tambuwal accused the IGP of committing contempt of the order of court for status quo made on November 7.

Tambuwal averred that the IGP undertook not to tamper with the subject of the dispute being his status as Speaker, but has been the only person who does not recognise him as the speaker. He added that even the president still recognises him as the speaker.
The Speaker cited his being denied access into the premises of the National embly “to perform his lawful duty as the Speaker of the House of Representatives” on November 20 and the statement by the IGP before the House Committee on Police Affairs on Wednesday that he would not recognise him as speaker, as some of the instances of the IGP’s contempt of court.
Justice Ahmed Muhammed advised Tambuwal’s counsel to file a motion on notice and serve the IGP, who was represented by Ade Okeaya-Inneh (SAN), for his reply. He adjourned the case to December 1 for ruling on two separate applications by Tambuwal’s constituents who are seeking to join the suit.
Bala Konkani and Sambo Bello Moddo, chairmen of Kebbe and Tambuwal local government areas of Sokoto State respectively, are arguing that they are interested parties in the suit having elected the Speaker as a representative to the House. Similarly, Abdulsamad Ibrahim Dasuki of Tambuwal East constituency, Suleiman Hamsi of Tambuwal West constituency, and Hon Shuiabu Umar of Kebbi West constituency, all members of the Sokoto State House of embly, want the court to admit them as parties in the suit.

4  Forum / Politics / Photo: Imo Film Academy Collapses Barely A Week After Commissioning on: 29-11-2014 02:21 PM

Okay, so I have been receiving mails from some people that the Imo State Film Academy which I reported here on the blog has collapsed barely a week from the commissioning of the new place, but I refused to publish the mails because I tried to find out if it was true and the person I got in touch with denied it… Hmm.

But alas the building actually collapsed few days after Governor Okorocha commissioned it. Some reports have said it collapsed as a result of substandard material, but the state commissioner for Information, Engr. Chidi Ibe has finally spoken about the incident, and says it was as a result of an accident. Hear him;

“There was nothing like collapsed building. It was a trailer carrying a heavy generator and while trying to drop the equipment behind the Film Academy, one of the trailer’s tyres pulled and the trailer fell on the building. The impact of the trailer’s fall led to the collapse of the building,” he said. Check out some official photos from the event after the cut.

5  Forum / Politics / Man Kills Neigbour in defence of wife on: 29-11-2014 12:39 PM

Sunday Orochendu, a truck driver is in jail over the death of Mr Ralph Okey Mgbodile who he alleged aulted his wife.

Saturday Sun gathered that the incident, started when the deceased’s last born defecated at the entrance of Orochenedu’s room. This sparked a hostile reaction and insults from the wife of the suspect.

On getting home, Orochendu in an attempt to defend his family went into a fight with the late Mgbodile. They were, however, separated, but Mgbodile did not recover from the beating he got as he slumped and died minutes after the fight.

Policemen detained Orochendu while his wife, Ndidi, escaped to an unknown destination. She was later fished out by the policemen attached to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

At the police station where she is being detained, Ndidi claimed that it was the thought of being lynched that made her flee the compound when it became obvious that her neighbour, Mgbodile had died.
“I was terrified that angry neighbours could kill me. I have five children and cannot afford to die because of an issue that I contributed little or nothing to”,On November 1, 2014, I was cooking in front of our door as that is the only available space in the compound for tenants to cook. Suddenly, Mgbodile instructed his son to stay in front of their door and defecate. I pleaded that I was cooking and that he should be relocated to another place. He told his son to ignore me.
He asked me to go and build my house if I wanted some privacy. I felt bad because no person who witnessed a man defecating in front of a place where his food is kept will find that food edible”,My husband was not in the house at that moment, so I called him on phone. Minutes later, he returned and went straight to confront our neighbour. I was in the room because I do not want to be seen to be intruding when men are discussing.
I was hearing voices as they came out to the passage. It was then that I saw Mgbodile slap my husband, but as a gentleman, he refused to retaliate. The neighbours, who had gathered, were able to separate them. Mgbodile moved to his door and was about to pick something from the floor when he slumped. We were shocked when it was confirmed that he is dead.
In the history of our marriage, my husband has never raised his hands at me. We have lived for more than 14 years in this compound and neighbours can testify to the fact that we do not quarrel. He is a unique trailer driver. I don’t know what actually went wrong with him, that my husband had to pay dearly for.”
I was warned that the children of the man could kill me. I kept in touch with my in-laws and they told me not to worry. They were the ones that told me that he is now remanded at Ikoyi prisons. I have even gone there to see him. He told me to be strong, that God will see him through. My husband is innocent, only God knows what killed that man”, she said, wailing.
While Ndidi is hoping and praying that her husband and herself should be released, Mrs Nnenna Mgbodile, whose
husband died, is lost on what to do with her five children.
“I don’t know what to do? I don’t know where to start. Who will help me to train these children? If life was better for us, we will not be living in this type of house,” Nnenna, who is a petty trader, sobbed.
Still finding it hard to control her tears when Saturday Sun visited their house in Kirikiri, Nnenna said her only wish is that the killer of her husband should not go unpunished.
“Our greatest challenge is that we do not have money for the autopsy and the police said that this is the only way the true cause of death can be ascertained.”
At that point, her first daughter, Jennifer took over the narration of the story behind the sudden death of her father.

“It started about 12pm, the lady opposite our room by name, Mrs Ndidi Orochendu was cooking at her doorstep while the last born of our house was defecating in a bowl at our side, as there was no other place for him to go to toilet than that place. She was angry, but it was not the first time as that was the place he had been going to toilet since he was a child.
“She started shouting at my dad because he was around and inside at that time. I was sleeping and started hearing noises, listening to the insults that she hurled at my father. According to her, she said that she and her husband could not eat my brother’s feces. The problem is that we don’t have a backyard. My dad called me and sent me to buy toilet roll that I would use to clean up my brother. I did that and hurriedly cleaned him up but she was still shouting, waiting for a reply from us but we did not respond.
“I thought it had ended there, but she started telling people around what had happened. She later stopped for a while. Around 4pm, my dad dressed up and said he was going for a meeting and that he will return late because he would watch a football match from there. I myself went for a choir practice at my church.
Getting back at night, my kid sister was the one at home and she told me our dad was outside receiving fresh air as that was his normal practice whenever he comes back from work. My sister called him to eat his food but he said he was coming because he was still discussing ball. That night, she was outside also discussing the issue with a neighbour, Mama Queen. Those who were friends with her were telling her to fight, knowing full well that this man’s family especially the children could not defend themselves.
“She called her husband who was meant to go to work. I don’t know what she told her husband, who came out and confronted my father. My dad told him that he would have at least asked him before trying to fight. As my father was still speaking, he punched my father on the stomach. People were around even though they denied it; I don’t know why they did not separate them.
Though some people said the man used stick on my dad, some said he slapped my dad. It was then a man came and separated them. He moved away from the scene staggering, looking for his slippers and that was when he fell face downwards to the ground and died. This happened around 10:30pm. We did not know he was dead that night till the next morning.”

6  Forum / Politics / Why Jonathan’s Administration Must Go – Oshiomhole on: 29-11-2014 12:03 PM
The governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomole has yesterday revealed real reasons why Jonathan Administration must go!

Vanguard reports that the governor has highlighted why he thinks the present government should not try to have a comeback in 2015. The governor who declared that the Goodluck Jonathan administration must go made it known that quite a lot of  Edo indigenes have been killed under this present administration. He attributed his reason to the alleged refusal of the President in giving ecological funds to areas devastated by erosion in the state and many other APC states.

The governor made it known that he regrets the fact that the President has been using the lives of many Nigerians and Edo people in particular despite the 95 per cent votes he enjoyed in the state in 2011, he has vowed that the President and his party the PDP, would be voted out come 2015.

In lambasting the FG further, Oshiomole talked about the fallen prices of oil and the austerity measures. He queried saying:  “ what did they do with our money when oil was N108 per barrel. They said we should tighten our belt but they gave us no belt, that is anti people”.

The Governor declared this at the traditional Urhokpota Ground Ring Road Benin City, where he received the former Minister of State for Works and PDP Chieftain, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi and over two thousand of his supporters into the APC. About 20 palace chiefs led by Chief Jackson Igbinoba, and different PDP groups one of them led by Chief Arala Osula, dumped the party for the APC.

Praising the achievements of governor Oshiomole, Ogiemwonyi said he left the PDP after its failure in fixing economic, security and other problems facing our beloved country. However, in receiving the decampees into the party, Oshiomhole gave reasons why Nigerians must vote the PDP led Federal government out. He said:

“What is buried in the name of PDP can never resurrect because the Bible says, he who die in sin shall perish and languish in hell. And because PDP died in sin, they killed, they embezzled our money, they dehumanized our people, they enveloped Benin with flood, converted our young one to prostitution and reduced Edo from the heart beat to a part of the country that was now remember only by reference to very negative headlines.

“ It will take PDP more than a hundred years to pay reparation to Edo people. If anybody imagine what has happened in this state for six years, then you can better calculate how much they stole from the treasury of this state and how many miles they set up backwards in terms of where were are supposed to be. And that is why when the President came here to say that Edo will fall, I said well who is speaking. Can a man who is on the ground speak to a man who is on his feet?

“ PDP has already been fallen and buried in Edo state many many years ago. Yes in the last election we asked our people to vote on the basic of certain sentiments, and the PDP at the Presidential level won 95 per cent of the votes. But now Edo people are asking, what do we have to show for it. The erosion caused by PDP at Queen Ede has destroyed the schools built for Edo child. That erosion is destroying the Catholic Church, it has destroyed several houses, killed many of our people.

“ Federal PDP shared money to PDP states including states where the President lost election, they did not give one dim to the people of Edo state. Our crime because we voted wrongly. In Auchi, erosion have swept away more then 50 per cent of the houses and swept away others, they shared the ecology money they gave no dim to the people of Auchi. In Esan Central and West, erosion has destroyed a number of communities, PDP produced leaders in Esan land they did not bring one dime to deal with erosion in Esan land, but they gave money to Delta, they gave money to Bayelsa, they gave money to Cross River, they gave money to Niger, Jigawa, Kaduna and others.

“ What is our offence because we voted wrongly? So when we say APC, Change PDP, Change Jonathan it is informed by evidence. We must change both the party and the driver. PDP has failed for sixteen years they should leave.
“And let me be very specific, if we had not removed PDP in Edo we wold not have experienced the change we are seeing today in Edo. If we remove PDP from Abuja the way we removed them from Edo we will have power, universities will not be closing for six months, they will not be distributing SURE-P through PDP leaders, they will not be devaluing the currency and they will not be acting like small gods”, the governor said.

7  Forum / Politics / "I don't look like someone who would sponsor Boko Haram"-Ex-Borno Gov.Ali Modu S on: 29-11-2014 11:17 AM

Immediate past governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has been accused severally of sponsoring Boko Haram. The ex governor who has dumped APC for PDP ADDRESSED the allegations in an interview with James Bala of the Nigerian Tribune.
I believe that if there is one person that has suffered at the hands of Boko Haram, that person is me. I cannot be a sponsor and at the same time bear the highest number of casualty. By my upbringing, my ociation and my relationship with people, I have never met one person that belongs to Boko Haram. No member of my family has found or arrested as a member of Boko Haram.
I lost my blood brother - same father, same mother - to Boko Haram. I lost my cousins to Boko Haram and I lost many of my friends and ociates to Boko Haram. Now, I ask: who
are those people killing us?
I think those people who are making the allegations are the same people killing us. They are the same people using propaganda to give the dog a bad name so as to hang it.
I do not look like someone who would even ociate with Boko Haram, let alone be a sponsor. Truth never hides its colour. I am happy today because facts have emerged. All those fabricating these lies have been arrested. Those that fabricated this so-called Stephen Davis saga are currently in the hands of security agencies. All of them have met their Waterloo. When the security agencies finish their investigations, they will let us know who asked
them to fabricate stories.
There is no way I would be chief executive of a state and a Boko Haram sponsor and killing my own relations and friends. I don’t think even the devil would kill his own.The allegation was pure fabrication by some people in this state. Everything you heard about this Boko Haram was fabricated here in Maiduguri. The photographs of those claiming to be Boko Haram commanders with Stephen Davis were taken within Maiduguri.
We now know those behind those masks. We know their locations in the state and we know the people behind the fabrication. It is very unfortunate that they allowed themselves to be used. They were all arrested and in due course, they will be presented before Nigerians to tell them who sent them to do what they did.
When the security agencies finish their work, as I said, the whole world will know who is Boko Haram and who is not. For me, I have no ociation with Boko Haram. I have no relationship with Boko Haram and I will never have one. I have nothing in common with people that are ociated with Boko Haram. I mean, what is Boko Haram? Simply western education is Haram. Everything I became today was through western education. If western education is Haram, I could not have become a senator, I could not have become governor; I could not have become what I have become today.
If I were one of them, their belief is that anything that has to do with western education is Haram - prohibited. I cannot be sitting here and talking to you if I believe that western education or everything western is Haram. Almighty Allah will expose them very soon. Allah will deal with them. I pray Allah to expose them and punish them. Allah will deal with all those people who want to destroy our name because of mere politics.

Jonathan Abandoned Edo State After PDP Lost There- Oshiomhole

Governor Oshiomhole is angry and very bitter towards President Jonathan for ignoring Edo state and its people, by depriving them of what he call their right. While receiving former Minister of State for Works and PDP Chieftain, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi who just decamped to APC and 2000 of his followers at the traditional Urhokpota Ground in Benin yesterday, Oshiomhole openly poured out his anger, saying PDP has done more harm than good in the state and the country as a whole. His exact words after the cut.

“What is buried in the name of PDP can never resurrect because the Bible says, he who die in sin shall perish and languish in hell.
