‘When people are unhappy with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California State landmark. The star is being cleaned up at this time.’

3  Forum / The Buzz Central / Re: Mercy Aigbe Speaks Up On Alleged Police Attack On Husband, Lanre Gentry on: 7-12-2014 06:33 AM

Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has finally come to the aid of her hotelier hubby, Mr Olanrewaju Gentry.

Few hours ago, Mrs Gentry denied the reports that her husband was beaten to stupor by some policemen who attacked him at his hotel in Lagos.

In her own words:

Quote
“When I saw the story online, I was laughing because I believe it is the work of some jobless set of people. I see them as joy killers and I don’t know where such a story would have emanated from. They are all lies; the stories were fabricated. Who would beat up my husband? Why? Somebody drew my attention to it and when I saw it, I was shocked because there is no iota of truth in that story. People will always talk. Even if he has problem with somebody, I am sure they would resolve it; it is business. I don’t think they would resort to physically assaulting themselves. I am sure the person in question is a mature person as my husband. There was never any fracas between my husband and anybody, so I don’t know why people would cook up such stories about him.”

“Most times I pity my husband because I know those stories get to him. I know that those stories are generated because he is married to an actress. When false stories are written about me, they do not bother me but because my husband does not really know about our profession, he has not developed a thick skin and he feels bad reading all these false stories about him. I always have to soothe him and I tell him to take it as a sacrifice for being married to an actress. He does not transfer the aggression towards me, neither does he regret marrying an actress. He loves me hundred per cent.

Quote
“When you are popular, if you have the slightest misunderstanding with anybody, they would run to the press to rubbish the person’s image. Maybe some people have scores to settle with my husband because the stories are becoming too consistent. I would just say that if anyone has a grudge against my husband, they should voice out so that it can be settled amicably,”.
4  Forum / The Buzz Central / Why My Father Married Many Wives - Patience Ozokwor (Mama G) on: 7-12-2014 06:32 AM

Veteran Nollywood actress in a recent interview revealed why her father married several wives and why he gave her the name ‘Patience’.

The talented actress revealed this during the launching of a celebrity studio, Studio24 in Lagos.

On why the studio was named Studio24, Mama G said:

“I wouldn’t know why the company chose to call it Studio24, but they have the right to choose a name for their business. I don’t see anything wrong with that name.”

The actress compared Studio24 to her parents decision to name her Patience.

“There is a reason behind your name, I mean the one given to you by you parents. Just in my own case, there is a reason my father named me Patience, this is because he couldn’t have a male child after married several wives.

My mother was his third wife and each one of them delivered baby girls, anytime anyone of them has a male child he dies. The person before me was named Hope while mine is Patience, now you know the reason he named me that name. I believe there is a reason for everything, they must have deliberated on the name before chosen it”.- she concluded

Mama the mama, love this woman!

Martha Ifeoma Ifewulu’s Throat Cut With A Knife In Ejigbo

The lifeless body of a woman identified as Martha Ifeoma Ifewulu was discovered at her house in Oke Afa area of Lagos this past Monday, the 1st of December 2014.

The 35-year-old mother of four and the wife of 52-year-old Chief Lawrence Ugochukwu Ifewulu was murdered by an unknown person few hours before her children arrived from school.

The children came home only to find their mother in a pool of her own blood, which flowed freely down the staircase. “Who killed our mummy?” is a question now reverberating through their minds.

The late Ifeoma’s husband is as distraught as his children, though he is making a manly effort to keep his pain and emotion under control for the sake of the children. But then how can a husband recall the beautiful face of a wife that smiled at him as he left home in the morning, only to be summoned back in the afternoon by the urgent plea of a sobbing neighbour, and upon getting home to be confronted by the gut-wrenching sight of the silky-soft skin of her throat hideously slashed with a knife as one would do to a goat, and not break down in tears?

The husband of the deceased, Ifewulu, a native of Aniocha Local Government Area in Anambra State, who spoke to Sunday Sun, quaked with tearful pain as he tried to narrate the tragic death of his wife. After gaining some composure, he said: “Up till this very moment, I can’t just imagine that this actually happened. But, actually, it happened. On Monday, 1st December, we had our morning devotion and rejoiced that we were able to make it to December as a family,” began Ifewulu. “That morning, I was not really feeling fine and I thought of going for a medical checkup. I even jokingly asked her to go to the laboratory with me, but she declined because she wanted to go to Trade Fair to buy some things. So, I left the house around 10:30am. Even as I am talking to you now, I have not even gone for the result of the test because I left the laboratory around noon. When I wanted to leave the laboratory, I tried to call her to tell her I was leaving for the office but she did not pick the call. I kept calling her line up till 3pm but there was no response. I even got very annoyed wondering where she must have kept her phone. Getting to my office, after the usual traffic jam along the road, I got a call from one of our tenants, a woman. The woman was just crying and telling me to leave whatever I was doing and rush home. I asked her what happened, but she only said I should start coming immediately. I had to call one of my staff to drive me home because, due to my condition, I couldn’t even drive. Getting home, I could not imagine what I saw. I was told that when the children came back from school around 3:30pm and opened the door of the staircase, they just saw blood flowing down from the staircase. One of my girls tried to go upstairs and that was when she discovered my wife’s corpse and then raised the alarm. Neighbours came to the scene. It was when I got in around 5pm that I asked what happened. The chairman of our estate was the one that called the DPO of Ejigbo Police Division and informed him about the incident.

“The police came down within 30 minutes of getting the news. They went round, took pictures, and took away all that was at the scene as exhibits. Her wristwatch, wedding ring (which must have fallen from her hand when struggling with the killers), phones and everything else, were intact. Even her phone kept ringing.

When asked if he could recall having a fracas with anybody in business or within the neighbourhood, he said: “I run my business all alone, and I can’t recall having any issue with anybody either in business or on the street. What will bring about such? If it is a matter of losing money that can cause a quarrel between me and anyone and I would just forget about the money. The arrangement we had that morning was that she would stop over at her shop and get some money to buy goods at the Trade Fair complex.”

Asked if his late wife had ever reported any case of harassment or disagreement between her and any one, the bereaved husband simply retorted: “Hmm! I will like to hold on for now till a later time, because…let me just hold on for now.” As would be expected, all the neighbours are still in shock and wondering how a monstrous crime like the murder of the woman could have been committed in their neighbourhood in day time. But a female friend of the family and a tenant in Ifewulu’s premises (name withheld) who was one of the first set of people to discover the corpse mustered enough composure despite the deep pain of losing her friend and narrated how the murder of Ifeoma was discovered.

Her words: “It was about to rain that day and I tried to call the maid of our landlord (Chief Ifewulu) who was just about to open the door leading to the stairs. She asked me to hold on so she could come back for the family’s clothes spread outside after taking the kids upstairs. Immediately she opened the door leading to the stairs, she saw blood flowing from the stairs just like that and she alerted me immediately. When we got up, we saw our landlady lying down dead in a pool of her own blood. That was when we raised the alarm to alert other neighbours. Later on, I called the landlord and told him to start coming home.

As Sunday Sun learnt, nobody within the premises recalled seeing any strange person coming into the compound at any time. Ijeoma Uba, a friend of the deceased, described the manner of her death as too shocking, noting that the murdered Ifeoma did not deserve the fate that befell her, given her kind and gentle nature.

“She was a member of my gym. We met at the gym and most times, I would pair with her because that is how we do at the gym. I still saw her last Saturday because I always sit with her,” Uba said, wiping tears from her eyes.

The gruesome killing of Ifeoma affected Rita Chinwuba, another of her friends at the gym no less. She said: “I am one of her very close friends at the gym. She was also my customer who would always buy dried fish from me. Last Saturday, she even told me to bring catfish for her as her December bonus, and I obliged. She was just such a quiet lady. I don’t see anything that should warrant her death in this manner. I was surprised when I heard about this. I am short of words now and I will miss her so much,” Chinwuba lamented.

May her soul rest in peace (amen).

Charms Found In School At Primary School In Jos Plateau State: Jobless Graduate Buries Voodoo In School To Find Job, Charles Sheriff  Arrested

An unemployed University graduate has been arrested in Nabor village located in Jos, Pleateau state Nigeria for burying 25 raw eggs within a school premises.

The suspect identified as Charles Sheriff who resides in Nabor with his parents and other siblings was reported to have gone to the school after closing hours on Monday the 24th of Nov. to bury the eggs between two blocks of classrooms.

After his arrest, Charles told police he doesn’t plan to harm anybody. He said he only intends to find favour from God and man. The incident happened at LEA Primary School.

Charles has remained unemployed long after completing the mandatory one year service, thus prompting his recourse to what has now been interpreted by people in the neighbourhood as diabolic self-help that expectedly sparked off apprehension in the village.

The head of the school, Mrs. Deborah Solomon, said the pupils are now scared to come to school.

Her words:

“We the teachers are even scared because we do not know his motive. He buried the eggs where the children normally go to play. We do not know whether it could be a threat to the lives of the pupils or it would have effect on their wellbeing. Up till now if I say I am happy, it is not true. I am truly worried. To encourage the children to come to school, some of us brave the odds and come to school. Since the incident, we do gather the few pupils who still come to school to pray for our safety. I have been encouraging them to believe in the living God and not the type of god people like Sheriff believe in. I do tell them that our God would not allow evil things to happen to us. So they should not be afraid.”

Though Charles insisted that the eggs were not to harm anybody but meant for his own good, Solomon said the teachers do not believe him.

“When we asked him to drink one of the eggs if they are not harmful, he refused to do so. If they have nothing to do with anybody he could have buried them in his house and if not his house, by the stream behind the school where people rarely visit or by the hills behind the school but not in the school premises. I do not know why he chose this school. There are other private schools around here but he chose to come here. Is it because it is mainly patronized by the poor?”

From every indication, the villagers are telling Charles to tell his story to the birds because they do not believe one word of what he said. Their doubt stems from past experience that members of his family are alleged to be notorious for committing such diabolic acts even before they moved to Nabor because of the crisis that rocked the state capital.

While Charles was being led away despite the strenuous efforts of his mother and brother to free him, a woman came to the scene and asked the villagers why they allowed the family to live there. She said they were known for such diabolic acts while in Angwa Rogo from where they moved to Nabor. This explained why his mother tried to protect him instead of scolding him for getting involved in such an action.

Following this development, the villagers have served a quit notice on the family to leave the village. “We do not know whether it was their native doctor that gave him the eggs to bury in the school. They could be members of a cult and could pose danger to even the whole village. So they must leave,” said a villager.

Simeon Graduated From DELSU, Delta State University In Abraka

Meet a very thankful Nigerian guitarist, Simeon Djagbo who was born with no fingers and palms.

Simeon is a University graduate of DELSU who is now running  his Master’s programme.

With determination and great courage, Djagbo has risen above his deformity and is enriching his life, buoyed by a strong belief that God has a reason for letting him be born without palms and fingers. By the time Simeon was almost five years old, his musical talent had become noticeable. As he now says, his musical talent is “a gift to showcase God’s wonders and be a blessing to others who feel hopeless.”

How He Became A Guitarist – Simeon Djagbo

“My church brought a man to teach the guitar to others. I was in the drum section just watching as he was teaching a lady to play a progression on a particular song. I watched the way the lady’s fingers were moving on the strings and I was capturing it in my head. When she dropped it, I picked the guitar up and played it exactly the way she was taught and everybody was shocked, because I was not taught how to play it. Although, I was always sneaking to play the guitar because some concerned people felt I would injure myself. I kept at it and became better. I feel God divinely directed me to the guitar.”

My Parents Are My Pillars

“My parents never gave up on me and treated me like a king; they supported me financially and prayerfully. I wanted to enroll in a primary school, but the school administrators rejected me because they felt I could not write. They also felt that my physical defect would scare off children from the school. My parents got information about a school owned by a white woman, St. Lukes Nursery and Primary School in Warri, Delta State. From there I moved to Sure Success College, Warri for my secondary education. I later gained admission into Delta State University, Abraka where I read Library and Information Science. For the mandatory National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, I served in Okrika Local Government Area, Rivers State and I am presently running my Masters programme in the same University,”

“I want to say the greatest challenge that a man can have is a handicapped mind and not physical challenges. I believe that God who created me like this has a reason and a bigger and better plan that will take me to an expected end. Any challenge I face is a process to fire me up to become a better person in this world. No one is physically disabled except your mindset is. And I believe that it does not limit you from being who you are destined to be in life. Everyone is born with at least a talent. It is your duty to discover and make use of it. Like the Bible says in Proverbs 18:16 ‘A man’s gift maketh room for him and bringeth him before great men.’ Trust me, no one has any excuse.”

“The fact that Jesus lives means I can face tomorrow. I wake up praising Him because He owns my future, and I know I am a great child of destiny. I am inspired knowing that I am a friend of God and that even the angels are envious of me. God is alive and I see that the future is so bright for me.

“I hope to become one of the most sought after gospel bass guitarists both in Nigeria and abroad. I also want to be a blessing to people and put smiles on their faces,”.

What a courageous guy!!
