2  Forum / Politics / Why APC Senators Stayed Away From Plenary Session Today on: 25-11-2015 04:20 PM
As the controversy over the assassination attempt on Ike Ekweremadu seems to have doused, the All Progressives Congress senators still did not fail to stay away from the sitting presided over by the deputy Senate president today, November 25.

Senator Ekweremadu presided over Wednesday’s plenary session as the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, had travelled to Ikenne in Ogun state to attend the burial ceremony of H.I.D Awolowo which was scheduled to take place today, Daily Post reports.

It was however reported that unlike the last time the deputy Senate president presided over the plenary, today’s sitting was far from being rowdy.

The sitting had three senators sponsoring a Bill which dominated the discussion at the plenary session.

The Gunners enjoyed a 3-0 win over Dynamo Zagreb in midweek to leave themselves in with a chance of rescuing their European campaign against the Greek giants

Arsenal have left themselves with a mountain to climb yet again in the Champions League, despite Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Dynamo Zagreb.

Arsene Wenger’s side must now beat Olympiacos by two clear goals to progress to the knockout stages of the competition with a superior head-to-head record, or win 3-2 to go through on goal difference.
4  Forum / Sports / Ancelotti: No competition between Ronaldo & Bale on: 25-11-2015 03:19 PM
The former Real Madrid coach says there are no arguments between the Spanish club’s two attacking stars over free-kick duties, with Ronaldo still taking most of their set-pieces

As a Goal columnist, Carlo Ancelotti will provide his expertise and insight on this season’s Champions League through an exclusive series of columns and videos.

When Rafael Benitez defended Cristiano Ronaldo’s free-kick record earlier this season, he inadvertently struck upon the crux of the problem.

“When we practice in training he hits them well and I am confident,” Benitez said. “He hits them quite well. I will tell them to make you a video.”

Few would argue that Ronaldo’s knuckleballs look good on film; there is no shortage of YouTube compilations of the best strikes of his 13-year career. The more pressing question is whether his swerving shots are consistently accurate enough to justify Ronaldo taking the lion’s share of Real Madrid’s free-kicks.

Benitez’s predecessor, Carlo Ancelotti, thinks so. “Firstly, taking a free-kick is not easy,” Ancelotti told Goal. “Then, not many goals are scored directly from frees. He strikes them well, trains a lot on this, but at the end of the day, I believe that the overriding fact is that it’s not easy to score from a free-kick. He’s certainly not got worse.

5  Forum / Sports / Zidane Is The Right Man For The Real Madrid Job - Ancelotti on: 24-11-2015 05:23 PM
Los Blancos' former coach says the Frenchman has all the qualities necessary to go on and have a big career as a manager

With the pressure continuing to grow on the under-fire Rafael Benitez, Carlo Ancelotti believes Zinedine Zidane is ready to coach Real Madrid.

Benitez received the backing of Madrid president Florentino Perez on Monday, just 48 hours after the humbling 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the Clasico.

Zidane, coach of Madrid's second team, has distanced himself from the position, but Ancelotti feels the France great - who served as his assistant at Santiago Bernabeu for one year - is equipped for the top job.

"He has a stunning CV as a player and is preparing for a big career as a manager," former Madrid boss Ancelotti told RMC Sport, via AS.

"He has all the qualities necessary to be a fantastic manager: charisma, personality and experience.

"In the future he could manage Real Madrid or any other club for that matter. Would he be the right man now? Yes, I think so.

Angel Di Maria is back in the Paris Saint-Germain squad for Wednesday's Champions League clash with Malmo, but Javier Pastore and Ezequiel Lavezzi are still out.

Di Maria missed Saturday's 2-1 win Ligue 1 over Lorient because of a calf injury, but could feature as PSG aim to seal qualification for the last 16.

However, fellow Argentina internationals Lavezzi and Pastore remain on the sidelines. Lavezzi has a knee injury while Pastore has not played since October 21 because of conjunctivitis and a calf problem.

The Italian has heaped praise on the striker and says France will need him at his best if the are to win Euro 2016

Former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has described Karim Benzema as the "perfect finisher" and "one of the best players in the world."

Benzema has battled injury and off-field problems throughout the 2015-16 season, but the Frenchman has still managed to score six La Liga goals this term.

The 27-year-old, who is embroiled in a sex-tape blackmail case involving international team-mate Mathieu Valbuena, had not played for Madrid since October 4 due to a thigh problem until Saturday's 4-0 loss at home to Barcelona.

The Blancos' 4-0 thrashing at home to Barcelona on Saturday has sparked rumours that their head coach's job is at risk, and the club chief will address the press on Monday

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has called a media conference on Monday where he is expected to address rumours that Rafa Benitez's job is at risk.

Los Blancos followed up their loss to Sevilla before the international break with a four-goal defeat at home to Barcelona in the Clasico at the weekend.

That leaves Madrid six points behind Barca, who lead the table, while Atletico Madrid leapfrogged them into second place with their win over Real Betis on Sunday.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has revealed he was "close to death" during his recent battle with illness.

Blatter, 79, was taken into hospital earlier this month, having been implicated in the corruption scandal engulfing football's world governing body earlier this year.

10  Forum / Sports / Alves tells Ronaldo: You must accept the flak! on: 23-11-2015 03:40 PM
The Brazilian says the Real Madrid ace just has to deal with the criticism coming his way given he so willingly puts himself in the limelight

Barcelona full-back Dani Alves says Cristiano Ronaldo should expect to take most of the blame for Real Madrid's Clasico humiliation.

Barca cruised to a 4-0 success at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, piling the pressure on coach Rafael Benitez, as well as president Florentino Perez and star forward Ronaldo.

But Dani Alves refused to offer any sympathy to Barca's fierce rivals, suggesting criticism comes with the territory for big-name players such as the Portuguese star.

"He's still Cristiano - a top quality player. Perhaps that's the problem," he told reporters.

"How can I say this? He's such a character, he likes to be the protagonist. If you want to be like that, when you win they speak about you and put you in the limelight but, if you lose, you must take the flak.

"If the team doesn't get things right or win it's going to be your fault.

"But we have enough to worry about ourselves without Cristiano. To be honest, I don't care what Cristiano does."

JOKE No. 1-
9/11 : Two airplanes crash into the twin towers and explode. Everything melts in the molten burning mass including the black box of the plane. Building 7 (third tower) collapses due to the heat generated by the nearby burning towers.........But, the cops retrieve the passports of the hijackers intact from the burning molten mass(?) and confirm that they were Muslim terrorists. Wow!!! Even Superman couldn't have done that. The Jews are extremely cunning we know.. but this is more to do with Muslims being fools.
JOKE No. 2
Charlie Hebdo: Terrorists plan and execute a heinous act of terror inside an office and flee....But, they conveniently forget their IDs in their car as a present for the cops to catch them later. Wow again. How stupid of those terrorists!
JOKE No. 3
Paris attack 2015: Suicide bombers blow themselves to bits and crazy gunmen open fire, but they were carrying their passports with them just incase they get into trouble with the authorities. Really?Huh? (9/11 Deja vu?) How is that even possible???
AND "WHY" on earth would a terrorist tug his passport inside his suicide belt if he was on a suicide mission?Huh?Huh?
Height of Stupidity!
Either these terrorists are fools and EXTREMELY keen on letting the authorities know about their identities, or else, someone else is making a fool out of the entire world.
New World Order anyone?
Nobody said anything to Russia or Israel for their attacks on Syria and Palestine. Nobody stood in solidarity with Lebanon when bombs rocked the country. Nobody batted an eye when thousands of Muslims were burned alive in Burma. Nobody tuk the colors of the Turkish flag when Ankara had a similary bombing last month with 100 plus dead. Nobody stopped USA when it attacked Iraq following baseless, false information about weapons of mass destruction. Nobody stopped those wretched Zionists from killing innocent children and women of Gaza.
I just shudder to imagine what kind of a ruthless world our children are about to inherit. May Allah protect us from all the fitnas

The frustrated Chile forward has accused the Celeste of not knowing how to be humble in victory and magnanimous in defeat

Alexis Sanchez slammed the behaviour of Uruguay's players after Chile were defeated 3-0 in their World Cup qualifier in Montevideo on Tuesday.

In another bad tempered affair between the two South American nations – following on from their controversial quarter-final Copa America clash in June, which went the way of eventual champions Chile – seven players were cautioned, whilst the visitors' Jorge Valdivia was sent off after the final whistle.

Taking to social media via Instagram, Alexis lashed out at Uruguay's perceived lack of sportsmanship.

The Gunners are joint top of the Premier League table but Arsene Wenger now has to juggle a depleted squad, while an early Champions League exit is looming large

Arsenal supporters have suffered their fair share of false dawns since the club last won the Premier League– but this year there is finally a sense that their title challenge is genuine.

Sixty thousand pairs of eyes collectively rolled on the opening day of the season when Arsene Wenger’s side slumped to a 2-0 home defeat to West Ham.

Yet the fear that the Gunners were set for another season of disappointment was premature, with the team now joint top of the Premier League table with Manchester City.

Twelve games into the campaign, Arsenal have an identical record to City having won eight of their matches, lost twice and drawn twice.

They have picked up where they left off in the second half of last season and the issue now is whether they can maintain this form over the whole course of the campaign.

A difficult period is inevitable, and that is when Arsenal will have to show the mentality of champions. FA Cup triumphs in the last two years will help but there is still a sense that this team is vulnerable when they find themselves in pressure situations.
14  Forum / Sports / Clasico security to be increased after Paris attacks on: 17-11-2015 10:22 AM
Real Madrid's match with Barcelona at the Bernabeu this weekend will be the subject of heightened security measures following last week's shocking events in the French capital

Security around Saturday's highly-anticipated Clasico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona is set to be increased in the wake of last week’s attacks in Paris.

The match falls just over a week after terrorists attacked several areas in the French capital, including the Stade de France where Les Bleus took on world champions Germany.

Over 130 people died and hundreds more were injured in the atrocities, prompting Spain’s friendly in Belgium, which was due to take place on Tuesday, to be postponed over fears the safety of the players and fans could not be guaranteed.

Madrid’s match with Barca at the Santiago Bernabeu is not in doubt, but Concepcion Dancausa, a government delegate in Madrid, has revealed that extra security measures will be taken as two of the world's biggest teams go head-to-head.

“Even the sandwiches will be examined,” she told AS, in reference to Benfica fans smuggling flares into the Vicente Calderon in sandwiches when they played Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in September.

“It’s a case of doing what’s normally done, but with more control.  The surveillance as the fans come in and out of the ground will be more thorough. ”
15  Forum / Sports / Yaya Toure future under the spotlight again on: 17-11-2015 10:11 AM
The 32-year-old had hinted at international retirement but now seems keen on a return at the start of 2016, representing another u-turn in an uncertain period of his career

The midfielder has flirted with the idea of leaving Manchester City on more than one occasion, only to blame it all on the media or other outside influences. Just this summer he left Inter stood at the altar after a transfer had been put in place.

Having captained the Ivory Coast to long overdue Africa Cup of Nations glory at the start of this year, all the signs pointed to Toure's international retirement.

"I think now my target is done," he said. "The time for the youngsters will come soon and we need to let them go on alone."

Toure's importance to City was all too clear while he was leading his country in Equatorial Guinea. Of the six competitive matches played in his absence, the Blues won just once. They were joint top with Chelsea when he left, having clawed their way back over Christmas, but by the time he returned they had essentially blown it; seven points behind and out of the FA Cup as well.

He hasn't played for his country since the penalty shoot-out victory against Ghana in February, and City must have been delighted as he toyed with pulling down the curtain on his international career.

Now, though, he wants to go back.

"I think the next fixture after this will be in 2016, when the qualification for the 2017 African Nations Cup continues. In any case, I'll be ready."

Manuel Pellegrini always insists he is delighted for his players to represent their countries, but you would imagine the prospect of his return will not be relished by everybody at the Etihad.
16  Forum / FunnyHub (Jokes + Comedy) / Akpors and the new school on: 17-11-2015 09:40 AM
Akpors moved to a new community with his parents, and was enrolled into primary 3. On the day he resumed school, as a test, the teacher went around the room and asked each of the students to count to 50. Some did very well, counting as high as 30 or 40 with just a few mistakes. Others couldn’t get past 20.
Akpors however, did extremely well. He counted past 50, right up to 100 without any mistakes. Akpors was so excited that he ran home and told his dad how well he had done.
His Dad nodded and told him,
DAD: “That is because you are from Delta State.”
The next day, in English Language class, the teacher asked the pupils to recite the alphabet. It was Primary Three, so most of them could make it half way through without much trouble. Some made it to S or T, but Akpors rattled off the alphabet perfectly right to the end.
That evening, he once again bragged to his Dad about his ‘abilities’ in his new school. His Dad, knowingly, said to him again:
DAD: “That is because you are from Delta State.”
The next day, after Physical Education, Akpors while having shower time with his classmates, noticed that compared to the other boys in his class, he seemed overly “well endowed” down below. He was confused.
That night he told his Dad.
AKPORS: “Daddy, they all have little tiny ones, but mine is ten times bigger than their own. Is that because I am from Delta State too?”
DAD: “No, my son,” he explained, “That is because you are 18.”
17  Forum / Sports / 'I want to spoil Raul's party' on: 14-11-2015 12:19 PM
The Real Madrid and Spain legend brings the curtain down on his glittering career on Sunday, but one man wants to ruin his swansong

Raul will play the final game of his illustrious career when New York Cosmos face Ottawa Fury in Sunday's North American Soccer League [NASL] final, but Richie Ryan is determined to "spoil the party".

The former Real Madrid and Spain striker recently announced his decision to retire and could end his playing days with a final piece of silverware.

However, victory is no certainty, particularly if Ryan has his way, with the Ottawa Fury star keen to steal the limelight for himself.

"I'd love to be the one to spoil the party," he told Goal. "Me scoring goals is something that rarely happens, but I'm hoping that one of the boys will spoil the party for Raul and the Cosmos.

"[Scoring goals] is not my job on the team, but if I get a chance to do it on Sunday, I'll be extremely happy."

That said, Ryan was also quick to praise Raul for his longevity and said the 38-year-old's decision to join the league had given the division a much-needed boost in profile.

"For me, personally, it's an honour and a privilege to be playing against players like that," he continued.

"You just have to look at Raul's career to see what an amazing career he's had, to be the highest scorer at Real Madrid for so long.

"I think people forget that when he left Real Madrid he was playing for Schalke in the Champions League. To be playing at that level for so many years, you've got to be an extremely good talent.

"And the same for Marcos Senna. He's somebody that I've admired watching for many years, when he played for Spain, winning European Championships. They're two top talents.

"For the league moving forward it's great to have such well-known players like them. The league is trying to expand every season and it's important that they have faces within the league that can do that for them.

"They are the players that are known world-wide, so to have them come to your league it's a big plus."

The Portugal forward, who has worked under Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, has explained why Sir Alex Ferguson is the best manager he's ever had

Cristiano Ronaldo believes that Sir Alex Ferguson is the best coach he’s ever worked with.

Ronaldo was signed by Ferguson as an 18-year-old for £12.2 million in 2003 and went on to win three Premier League titles and the Champions League during his six seasons at Manchester United.

The Madrid star, who has also played under Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, explains why the retired United boss is the best manager he’s ever had.

"I just have to say thank you for what [Ferguson] did for me," the Portugal international said in an interview with Jonathan Ross for ITV.
19  Forum / Sports / Blind annoyed by Netherlands's defensive frailties despite win on: 14-11-2015 11:50 AM
Netherlands head coach Danny Blind rued his team's defensive lapses after conceding twice from set-piece moves in the 3-2 friendly victory over Wales.

The Dutch, who missed out on Euro 2016 qualification following a fourth-place finish in Group A, downed Chris Coleman's side with Arjen Robben netting twice.

However, despite sealing a morale-lifting victory, Blind was more interested at highlighting the areas his side could improve upon.

"It was quite annoying that we have had to weather two goals from set-pieces,'' Blind told SBS6 .

"We just have to pay attention. In qualifying we conceded three or four [goals] from corners or free-kicks. That should really be much better.

"We started well, but fell asleep again and had our backs to the situation. When you have the right focus you do not miss the overall picture.

"We had to come back into the Wales game, while we could have been 3-1 or 4-1 ahead."
20  Forum / Sports / Coutinho & Firmino to start in friendly with Wolves on: 13-11-2015 05:06 PM
The Liverpool manager will look to tackle a few key areas of concern while analysing some of the club's young gems at Melwood

Jurgen Klopp will assess some of his first-team squad as well as a few of Liverpool's young on-loan talents during a friendly game with Wolves on Friday afternoon.

The manager has not been afforded the training time he would appreciate between matches, but the international break offers him an extended period to correct issues in sessions rather than through video analysis.

While he does not have a full roster at his disposal due to national team commitments, Klopp will still tackle key areas of concern.

Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Lucas Leiva, Dejan Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Joao Teixeira will all start in the behind-closed-doors encounter at Melwood.

Brazilian starlet Allan, who won the Finnish league during a temporary spell with SJK Seinäjoki, will also be part of the first XI.
