1  Forum / Sports / 'I will quit international football' - Drogba on: 2-06-2012 04:39 PM
After winning the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea last month, Cote d’Ivoire captain Didier Drogba says he is accomplishing his last international assignments with the Elephants and will say goodbye to the outfit after the 2014 World Cup.

At a press conference in Abidjan on Thursday ahead of the qualifier against Tanzania, Drogba said he would do his best to help the team reach the Brazil 2014 and leave a memorable legacy because it will be the last time local fans will see him in the Ivorian jersey.

“I’m certainly living my last days with the national team, and the match against Tanzania on Saturday will be one of my last games here at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium,” Drogba said.

“However, I’ll do my best to leave something memorable for fans, and after the 2014 Fifa World Cup, I think I’ll be quitting international football for good.”

The 34-year-old striker also revisited their failure to win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, which Zambia scraped on penalties.

“It’s true winning the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea brought much joy to Ivorian fans, but it cannot blot out the nightmare of February 12 in Libreville (Gabon), the day we bitterly lost the 2012 Afcon to Zambia. It is still very fresh and hurting. We hope to make up for it in the upcoming edition,” he added.

3  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Charly Boy reacts to gay allegation, threatens to sue newspaper on: 30-05-2012 04:46 AM
Last week, news spread like an hurricane about Charles Oputa popularly known as Charly Boy being a gay and the head of illuminati in Nigeria.

This allegation was made in a publication by a national daily newspaper, National Mirror of Saturday, May 26, 2012 by one of the paper’s writers.

In the story, Area Fada, as Charly Boy is also fondly called, was reported to be a gay the being the head of illuminati members in Nigeria.

He was also reported to be making a move to take over as the number one gay in Nigeria. This, according to the story, would allegedly make Charly Boy take over the number one spot from the first publicly acclaimed gay, Pastor Roland Macaulay.

In a reaction to the gay allegation by the paper, Charly Boy fumed at the publication and has vowed to sue the National Mirror for publishing such damaging story about him.

The 60-year old former PMEAN president stated, ”yesterday, I was an illuminate member. Today, a gay, tomorrow, slepping with a coffin and the list is endless. When will they stop these lies”?

Stating further, the head of ‘okada’ riders in Nigeria said, ”I read with total dismay in Saturday Mirror newspaper that I am a gay and head of illuminate. I have never sued before…but this time…,” he left it blank.

One thing that baffles some industry watcher is the fact the writer of the alleged damaging story is known to have close ties with Charly Boy. Is this another media stunt from Charly Boy who is always in the habit of such publicity stunt?

You will recall that few years ago, Charly Boy was in the midst of gay allegation with Denrele Edun when both were pictured in a kissing position.

4  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Kim kardashian Stops Rihanna from entering Kanye West’s dressing room on: 29-05-2012 05:29 PM
JEALOUS Kim Kardashian banned boyfriend Kanye West from letting Rihanna into his dressing room during his London gigs.Raunchy Rihanna had joined Kanye and Jay-Z on stage at the O2 Arena. In February she was seen out with Kim’s model brother Rob.

A Kanye source said: “Kim is incredibly protective of Kanye and doesn’t want any women near him unless she is there – even his friends.

“Rihanna wasn’t even allowed to go into his dressing room without Kim being there. The fact she was linked to Kim’s brother probably didn’t help.

“It’s crazy but Kim knows the attention Kanye gets when he’s on tour – and she doesn’t want any competition.”

Kim, 31, jetted back to the US yesterday and claimed her bags had been ransacked.

“What happened to the days when you could lock your bags! Shame on you.”

5  Forum / The Buzz Central / Ghanaian Actor Majid Michel -I’m Genevieve’s Student, Not Lover on: 14-05-2012 06:41 AM
Ghanaian movie star Majid Michel must be gearing to stir up the movie scenes in Nigeria and Ghana soon with his recent comment on popular Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji. Although he is happily married with children, the handsome actor has been rumoured to be having a discreet affair with the Nigerian actress. Eager to dispel the rumour and, perhaps, protect his marriage back in Ghana, Michel, who was nominee in the last African Movie Academy Awards in Lagos, says that his relationship with the thespian is that of a pupil and teacher. He says, “Genevieve (Nnaji) actually taught me how to act. She is one of the best actresses I have ever worked with. The other person is Mercy Johnson. Among Nollywood actors, Ramsey Nouah is the best, as far as I am concerned.” When it comes to music, Michel says his favourites are Beyoncé, Adele and Rihanna. “Right now, I have 14 songs on my cell phone, and all of them belong to one person, Adele. I listen to Adele whenever I do anything. Tell you what, my ringtone is a Rihanna song,” he says.

6  Forum / Politics / South Africa To Deport 56 Nigerians on: 21-03-2012 08:51 AM
South Africa is set to deport 56 Nigerians, The Nation learnt yesterday.

The Federal Government has been notified of the planned deportation, which is coming barely two weeks after a row between the two countries.

The deportees, who have overstayed their visas, applied for asylum because of alleged political “crisis” in Nigeria. They appeared before an Asylum Panel in South Africa and their applications were rejected, it was learnt.

The South African Government checked and discovered that Nigeria is not experiencing any political problem to have warranted asylum for any of its citizens.

A source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who pleaded not to be named because he is not permitted to speak on the matter, said: “South Africa has informed us of a fresh deportation of 56 Nigerians. The affected persons will be brought to Nigeria either on Wednesday or Thursday.

“Our senior officers in the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria were made to be part of the process to ascertain that none of the deportees is a victim of any form of injustice.

“The South African Government said it is granting asylum to those from war-torn countries and Nigeria is not on the list.

“In line with our new rapprochement, we cannot force these Nigerians on South Africa. So, we are expecting the deportees soon.

“Deportation is a normal thing when immigrants are found to have either entered a country illegally or overstayed their visas. Some are usually sent back each time they violate immigration laws or indulge in fraud.  That is why you see Nigeria deporting illegal aliens like Nigeriens and Chadians.”

South Africa had a fortnight ago deported 125 Nigerians from the Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg over alleged fake yellow fever vaccination cards.

7  Forum / Politics / Army parades pastor, police officer for gunrunning, sale of military kits to ter on: 21-03-2012 08:45 AM
The army attributes the success of its operation to a revision of its strategies in combating the increasing waves of attacks by armed groups

The 23 Armoured Brigade, Yola, Adamawa State, has clamped down on a syndicate specializing in gunrunning, and sale of military gear to men of the underworld.
Nancy James and her accomplice, Haliru Jumba, a pastor with Kunini Deeper Life Bible Church in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State were caught with some cache of arms hidden inside a sack of garri at a military checkpoint in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The military says the intercepted cache of arms was heading to Gombe State where one Danjuma Luka, who is now also in police net in Taraba State, was waiting to take delivery of the consignment.
The capture of Mr. Luka by the military followed the arrest of Ms. James, who the military says was making her second delivery of arms, after a previous  successfully operation in February.

The brigade spokesperson,  Lieutenant Victor Olukoya said the woman, caught with four double-barrel guns and two pistols, would have gotten away but for  the vigilance and diligence of his men who effected her arrest, putting their counter-terrorism training to good use.
Mr. Olukoya said the officers subjected the sack of garri in the vehicle to a thorough search which he said led to the discovery of the arms.
“The weapons were hidden in that bag of garri and after searching the sack of garri, the guns were discovered, and the men arrested,” Mr. Olukoya said.

The army spokesperson explained that the pastor arrested in company of the woman “is still only an accomplice” and that the police would be left to ascertain the extent of his involvent in the gunrunning scheme.
Also paraded by the army is a police corporal, Reuben Joel, attached to the anti-terrorism unit of the Nigeria Police Force in Aba, Abia State. He was accused of trafficking military and police uniforms to terrorist cells.

Mr. Olukoya said it was amazing that a serving corporal, attached to the anti-terrorist unit of the police command in Abia State, would be involved the illegal  sale of military uniform in far away Adamawa State.
The arrest of Mr. Joel by the army followed the arrest of two persons by the military at a checkpoint in Mubi, who were caught with  ten uniforms and ten pairs of military boots.
After they were interrogated, the men confessed to taking supply of the military uniforms from Mr. Joel, and that they were taking the consignment to Hong in Adamawa State.

The  arrest of the uniform traffickers, the army says,  has helped in unravelling incidences of attack on police checkpoints and banks by men clad in military and police uniforms.
“It is obvious that these are the people attacking police checkpoints and banks with regalia of the military and police. It portends that we have desperate people willing to go to any extent to maim innocent lives,” Mr. Olukoya stated.

However, the army has attributed the success of its current operation to a revision of its strategies in combating the increasing waves of attacks by armed groups.

It has therefore appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to cooperate with the military in its determination to rid the country of criminal elements and check the proliferation of arms by submitting themselves to checks at checkpoints.
