The baby is said to be the South African former model’s fourth child and the third for Ike.

A soldier was killed on Tuesday when gunmen attacked the country home of former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

According to reports by Gistmania, the gunmen who came in five speedboats attacked the former president's home located at in Otuoke Community of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The attack reportedy occurred at about 2am after Jonathan moved to his Yenagoa home at 12am.

The soldiers on duty at the house engaged the gunmen killing three of them.

A source who spoke on the attack said,

Police in Texas In America are searching for a man who they say shot a barber during a dispute over his 13-year-old son’s haircut.
The suspect may have fled the scene of Saturday’s shooting in suburban Houston in a four-door gray sedan, possibly a Honda Accord.

The incident began when the man complained to the barber that his son’s haircut was done improperly, and then decided to go home But the man later returned to the barbershop in Katy, located west of Houston, and the barber agreed to fix the haircut for free, police said. An altercation then ensued just before 5 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

The barber was shot three times and was rushed to the hospital.

Nigeria Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, stated that through the Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Nigeria will be able to produce industrial machine spare parts including those of aircraft.

Onu made this declaration on Monday, when he visited the Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu State to inuagurate some projects.

The minister said it was cheering to observe that the institute also shares the diversification agenda of the Federal Government.

He said: “I have seen the progress so far made in this institute but we want them to do more. We want PRODA to be a centre of excellence.”

The minister was happy with the induction furnace project of the institute which has the capacity to produce industrial machines and aircraft spare parts.

He said with the two furnaces, the institute could produce non-ferrous materials including aluminum and stainless steel.

He also challenged the institute to continue its research on the production of lithium batteries with a view to commercialising the findings.

On the pencil production project of the institute, Onu said he was satisfied that production had finally started on the project.

“We have all seen pencils produced by PRODA and this effort is quite commendable,” he said. He also encouraged them to do more and not relent, as Nigeria will gradually attain tecnological Independence.

Sahara Reporters publisher, activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore appeared before an Abuja federal court Monday morning, the first time since his re-arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS).

He was first arrested on Aug. 3 on charges of  treason with the government claiming the activist planned to overthrow the current administration after he called for a protest dubbed “Revolution Now.” He also faces money laundering and cyber-stalking charges.

This is following the recent dropping of suit by the judge in charge of the activist case, Justice Mohammed.

Details of the court proceeding will be made known to you shortly.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday withdrew from the fundamental rights enforcement suit instituted by the ‘RevolutionNow’ protests convener, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, seeking an order for his release from custody of the Department of State Service.

Going by the new development, Justice Mohammed would no longer preside over the suit, seeking an order for Sowore's release from custody of the Department of State Service (DSS).

During the hearing of Sowore’s application for the enforcement of his rights on Monday, December 23, 2019, Justice Mohammed ruled that he could not hear Sowore’s case, saying it was the fair, just and proper thing to do in view of the previous publications by Sowore’s medium, Sahara Reporters, which accused him of taking bribe in a case to influence the outcome of the case.

The case in question is the trial of a former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, who is now being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before another judge of the court, Justice Okon Abang.

Justice Mohammed stated that the reports by Sahara Reporters in 2016 and 2019 made him to withdraw from the ex-governor’s trial.

He recalled that when the first report was published in 2016, he was prevailed upon by the prosecution and defence teams to continue with the case.

He said on continuing with the case, a similar report was published in June this year, adding that the situation put him in a situation whereby if he ruled in favour of Sowore, it could be perceived as having been blackmailed by Sowore to so rule, and that in the event that he ruled against the activist, he could be perceived as being vengeful.

“Justice is rooted in confidence. That is to say none of the parties should have fear or apprehension that he will not get justice before a court," the judge stated.

Mohammed then ordered that the case file be sent back to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, for reassignment to another judge.

The DSS first arrested Sowore and his co-defendants Olawale Bakare on Saturday, August 3, 2019, over their planned nationwide protests.

Following their arrest, the activists were charged with treasonable felony among other offences.

A federal high court in Lagos on Monday dismissed  Uzor Kalu’s application for bail

Justice Mohammed Liman of the federal high court dismissed Kalu’s bail pending the determination of his appeal against his fraud conviction.

Justice Liman said there was no evidence to prove the senator was suffering from chronic diseases which weren’t contagious.

The court also rejected Mr Kalu’s argument that there are substantial grounds in his appeal against his conviction, saying it is an irrelevant
ground.

The former governor is currently serving a 12 year jail term over N7.1bn fraud

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday reduced all bank charges, with some getting more than 50 per cent cut, with effect from January 1, 2020.

According to the apex bank, the decision, which came amid public outcry against multiplicity and value of the charges, is aimed at making financial services more accessible and affordable to various stakeholders in the economy.

The reviewed charges and fees for banking services are contained in the new “Guide to Charges by Banks, Other Financial and Non-bank Financial Institutions,” which now supersedes the 2017 version.

The CBN said the new charges were “arrived at after extensive consultations with stakeholders and the action is expected to enhance flexibility, transparency, and competition in the Nigerian banking industry.”

The guide stipulates a penalty of N2million per infraction or as may be determined by the CBN as a guard against excess, unapproved or arbitrary charges by banks and other financial institutions.

Besides, failure by any bank to comply with the CBN’s directive in respect of any infraction shall also attract a further penalty of N2million daily or as may be determined by the apex bank, until the directive is complied with.

To emphasise the seriousness of the new rule, the Director of Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Isaac Okorafor, said the banks had been directed to henceforth log every complaint received from their customers into the Consumer Complaints Management System (CCMS).

Nine people died and more than 100 were hospitalised after drinking local liquor made from coconut sap in two separate incidents in the Philippines, police said Monday.

Eight people died after drinking a local brand of the traditional liquor, known as lambanog, at a get-together in Rizal town in Laguna province, some 70 kilometres south of Manila, a police report said.

At least 122 residents from the town were also rushed to hospital suffering with stomach aches, vomiting, and numbness in some parts of the body, with some collapsing and losing consciousness, it added.

The ninth victim died in nearby Candelaria town in Quezon province on Sunday, three days after he drank an unbranded bootleg lambanog with neighbours.

Six people from there were also rushed to hospital, including two who were comatose, the police report added.

Against the backdrop of a Nigerian court that declared on Thursday that s*x work is not a crime since there is no law that forbids it,

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to state their views playfully around the matter.

Justice Binta Nyako of the high court in the capital, Abuja, on Thursday, awarded damages to 16 women who were arrested for prostitution in 2017.

It is the first time a Nigerian court has ruled on the legality of s*x work.

Babatunde Jacob, A lawyer representing the women told the BBC that the court upheld that security agents violated the rights of his clients when they broke into their homes alleging that they were sex workers.

Legal experts believe the judgment is likely to have far-reaching implications for Africa’s most populous nation.

The arrest of s*x workers by security agencies is a common occurrence.

In a crackdown in May this year, more than 60 women were arrested in Abuja for prostitution.

Many of the women claimed they were harassed, extorted, and publicly shamed.
