A 40-year-old woman has been exposed after reportedly stealing another person's WAEC result and presenting it as hers.
Rose Okeke, who allegedly stole the original copy of a candidate’s result from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) office appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Okeke, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of stealing, forgery and conspiracy, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Evelyn Ehiemua, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with some others still at large on Dec. 3, at the WAEC Office, Ogba in Lagos.
Ehiemua said that the defendant and others who are currently at large stole the original copy of the WAEC result belonging to Miss Adijat Ajiboye and presented it as hers.
Ehiemua said that the offence contravened Sections 287, 365 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Gistmania reports that Section 287 prescribes three years’ jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years’ imprisonment for conspiracy.
The magistrate, Mrs O.A. Daudu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N40,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Daudu ruled that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG).
She adjourned the case until Jan.16, 2020 for mention.

The Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has awarded N50m damages against the Nigerian Army for the murder of Ajayi Oladele, who was said to have died as a result of a spinal cord injury he sustained when he was arrested and beaten by some soldiers in Warri in 2017.
Oladele was said to have been arrested and beaten by soldiers in their bid to help a businessman to recover a debt from the deceased.
Following his death, his widow, Esther Oladele, and their three children, filed the fundamental rights enforcement suit marked FHC/WR/CS/93/2017 against the Nigerian Army, one Lt. Col. T. A. Yakubu and Sergeant Hassan Hassan.
The suit was instituted on behalf of the plaintiffs by their lawyer, Mr Kunle Edun, who prosecuted the case for them free of charge.
Justice Emeka Nwite in the judgment delivered on December 10, 2019, declared that the four “plaintiffs’ right to life and therefore good and reasonable comfort of life have been violated by the acts of the defendants by the unlawful killing of Otunba Ajayi Oladele being that the deceased was the parent of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th plaintiffs and husband to the 1st plaintiff and also the breadwinner of the family.”
In the copy of the judgment seen by Punch correspondent on Wednesday, the judge made an order,

“awarding the sum of N50,000,000 as general and exemplary damages jointly and severally against the defendants in favour of the plaintiffs as a result of the unlawful/wrongful death of Otunba Ajayi Oladele and for loss of consort, fatherly love/care, comfort and disruption of the family life of the plaintiffs.”
The judge also awarded N100,000 against the defendants and in favour of the plaintiffs as cost of prosecuting the case.
A former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTM), Abdulrasheed Maina, and his son, Faisal, are to remain in Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, till January 2020.
Justice Okon Abang, who gave the order, on Wednesday, adjourned hearing on the ex-pension task team chief’s bail variation application till January 13, 2020, while Faisal’s trial was adjourned till January 20, 2020.
Earlier on Wednesday, Justice Abang had said that though it would not be convenient for the court to take the trial, bail variation arguments would be taken.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, however, said he was ready for the trial continuation and that the next witness was in court.
On his part, Abdulrasheed’s lawyer, Mohammed Monguno, reminded the court of the pending application for bail variation filed on December 6.
Abubakar, therefore, urged the court to adjourn the hearing on the bail variation application because the defence had just served on him its further affidavit the same day.

Two women from Nairobi were on Monday, December 16, arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts for engaging in a fight that disturbed the peace of the general public.
Sarah Wamaitha and Mercy Murithi, who own business stalls on Sheikh Karume Road in Nairobi’s central business district, allegedly fought over a man (Wamaitha’s husband) on November 4, 2019.
The two, who were charged with affray,the offence of disturbing the peace by fighting in a public place denied the allegations, and were released on Ksh30, 000 cash bail each.
The court was told that the suspects fought each other at a mobile phone shop owned by Murithi.
Wamaitha allegedly stormed Murithi’s shop and demanded to know why she was flirting with her husband. The court heard that Wamaitha’s husband allegedly reported to her that Murithi had made segxwal advances at him, and that he wasn’t comfortable being seduced by Murithi.
Wamaitha is said to have hired a spy to monitor Murithi, whom she warned against seducing her [Wamaitha’s] partner.
On November 4, the alleged spy told Wamaitha that Murithi was flirting with her husband in her [Murithi’s] shop. Enraged by the report, Wamaitha stormed Murithi’s stall, where she engaged her in a physical fight.
Wamaitha is further accused of damaging Murithi’s phone by smashing it on the ground. Wamaitha denied the allegation.
Each of the two reported separately to Kamukunji Police Station that she had been physically assaulted by the other.
The rivals were consequently arrested and charged jointly.

US House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, has said that the House would not commit to sending the articles of President Donald Trump’s impeachment to the Senate on Wednesday.
The lawmaker told a post-impeachment-vote news conference that “That would have been our intention, but we’ll see what happens over there.”
Some progressives have urged Democratic leaders to withhold the articles until Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, agrees to procedures for the Senate trial that Democrats have called for, as well as agreeing to bring in firsthand witnesses like acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney to testify.
Pelosi said Democrats will make the decision “as a group” on when to send the articles to the Senate.

“We cannot name managers until we see what the process is on the Senate side, and we hope that will be soon,” Pelosi said after the House impeached Trump last night.
“So far we haven’t seen anything that looks fair to us, so hopefully it will be fair.”
However, its was gathered that there are procedural concerns behind not sending the articles to the Senate on Wednesday night immediately after the votes.
Some of the concerns include that: Democrats can not send the articles at this time because the Senate would have to take them up Thursday, blocking votes on other measures, including a spending package that must pass before week’s end to avoid a government shutdown.

The Governor of Oy State, Seyi Makinde has shown gratitude to everyone who stood by him during the judicial processes.
Recall that Gistmania had reported that the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld Makinde’s election as governor of Oyo State.
The appeal was filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo Adelabu.
Adelabu lost to Makinde during the March 9, 2019 elections.
The APC governorship candidate had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the appeal court ruling.
The appellate court after evaluating the evidence brought by Oyo APC and its candidate ruled that the status quo should be maintained.
Reacting on his official Twitter page, Makinde thanked the people of Oyo State, for their overwhelming support throughout the judicial process.
