Forum / Law and Crime / Man Jailed For Killing Unborn Son In Attack |
on: 11-02-2016 10:39 PM
| A man has been jailed for life for killing his unborn son during a vicious attack on his pregnant ex- girlfriend. Teaching assistant Kevin Wilson took matters into his own hands after eight-months-pregnant Malorie Bantala refused to have an abortion. The 22-year-old hid in bushes near her Peckham flat with accomplice Taffari Grant, 17, before pouncing on his former lover, who had been buying decorations for a baby shower. The pair, disguised in crash helmets, inflicted life-threatening injuries on the Marks and Spencer worker by kicking and stamping on her as she lay on the ground trying to protect the unborn child with one hand. Both defendants denied they were at the scene despite being caught on CCTV fleeing on a scooter. Sentencing, Judge Mark Lucraft QC told them theirs was "a cowardly, vile, callous attack". Wilson was jailed for a minimum of 16 years after being found guilty of child destruction and GBH. His accomplice was handed 10 years' detention with a further four years on licence. Miss Bantala, who lost six pints of blood and broke two fingers in the 15 June 2015 attack, said in a statement: "The moment Joel died inside me I lost everything literally. Life as I knew it no longer made sense." Referring to Wilson, she said: "It was all about him and having the life he wanted." | | |

| Isnt it about time this advert went away. Destiny is a time sucking money grabbing franchise. Lots of people that started to play it day one have moved on to other games. Selling TTK pack with all the DLC for £40 is a slap in the face to the people that paid out for the original game then again for the other expansions. I see a lot of people new to the game on their facebook page saying how much of a deal the legendary deal it but they don't realise that during the course of a few months they will be sucked in and the next expansion pack will come out expecting them to pay out again for the base game + all the expansions. At the same time making their original grind of progress totally worthless. just save your time and buy a different game. | | |

| This is for me another way of getting to know how others think. Online is a means of reading the minds of those that are playing the games. As you play these games online and make new friends it also helps to make you think and analysed situations, conditions and problems you find yourself and how to find a solution(s) to those problems, because those games are designed to test your sense of critical thinking as it relates to finding yourself in an unusual situation or condition, so for me this is good. | | |

Forum / Technology / Online Gaming Is The New Social Network |
on: 11-02-2016 10:27 PM
| Harrison, 16, reveals how a new generation is turning to Xbox and PlayStation as a way to stay in touch with friends and meet new people. Harrison says: Online multiplayer gaming is like Facebook, but there are far more things to do. It’s just a more entertaining way to be in touch with people. It’s a great way to stay in touch with my friends and I’ve also made new friends in games who I’ve go on to meet away from the screen. It’s no longer just entertainment. It’s a new kind of experience. Online gaming on PayStation 4 or Xbox One basically IS a social network. I can instantly see what my friends are up to, and choose whether or not to join in. When we ‘meet up’, we don’t just shoot each other. There’s lots of ways to interact in online games, whether it’s just sending a message or actually making some sort of in game gesture. Even something stupid like dancing. If I do something amazing in game, I can also share pictures and video direct to Twitter or Facebook which makes the whole experience even more ‘social’. Although I will play almost any game, I play online games more than any others. It’s just more satisfying and enjoyable to play with a human being rather than a computer. When it comes to playing against the computer it’s easy to get bored. If it’s a real person there, it keeps you interested. Games without multiplayer aren’t over, though. There are just new ways to play. There are plenty of games where you are playing a single-player story, but there just happen to be other people around. 'Destiny' is a good example. You never have to shoot your mates if you don’t want to. 'Destiny' is online right from the very beginning, but you have the option of completing the game by yourself or with others. It’s a great way to stay connected with people. Personally, I really enjoy that way of playing. I know some people might find it odd, but it’s totally normal for me to wear a headset while playing and talk to other gamers - both people I know and people I don’t. If someone is sending you a text message, it’s usually because either they don’t know you or their headset has broken and they are waiting for a new one. I think most online players will be able to relate to this! | | |

Forum / Celebrity Talk & Discussions / Bruce Springsteen memoir coming in September |
on: 11-02-2016 10:25 PM
| Rock legend Bruce Springsteen will explain his rise to fame and the struggles behind his songs in a memoir to be released in September, his publisher announced Thursday. The book will be entitled "Born to Run," named after Springsteen's 1975 song that both marked his rise to fame and lyrically explained his drive to get out of his home in Freehold, New Jersey. The publisher, Simon and Schuster, said that Springsteen would tell stories behind the songs for the first time and show "why the song 'Born to Run' reveals more than we previously realized." The memoir will relate the "poetry, danger and darkness" of his youth in Freehold and his "relentless drive" to become a musician as he started playing at a bar in nearby Asbury Park, the publisher said. "Writing about yourself is a funny business," Springsteen, 66, said in a statement. "But in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I've tried to do this," he said. The book will be released September 27 in 14 countries, with editions in French, German and Spanish. The New York Post said that Springsteen received a $10 million advance for the book. Simon and Schuster did not comment. One of the most successful artists in rock history, Springsteen made his name with legendarily energetic live performances and tales of the American working-class. | | |
