The wife of Honourable Nelson Ofem, Member representing Yakurr I State constituency at the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mrs. Nseobong Ofem has been released by her abductors.
Mrs. Ofem was released last Friday after spending 10 days in the kidnappers’ den. She was abducted on the 8th of March, 2018 at Ikot Ishie, Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Her abduction did caused a disarray amongst the House of Assembly Members and their Wives, keeping them indoors for a period of time.
When contacted, Hon. Nelson Ofem confirmed the release of his wife but could not disclose whether a ransom was paid or not, as he paid
She was released late Friday night after several days in captivity. We also gathered that her family had to part with a colossal sum of money believed to be in the region of N10 million after her kidnappers had initially demanded for a whooping N100 million as ransome. Close family sources also revealed to that the victim was taken to the creeks through Jebs, Calabar South.
“The kidnappers even bragged to madam that after her release, they will go after other wives of the CRSHA members; right now she is receiving treatment in an undisclosed location because she went through hell” the source again revealed.
Irene Ugbo, the Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State, confirmed the release of the victim and expressed happiness her release.
