An Afghan migrant stabbed a middle-aged Christian woman in the chest – after he heard her reading from the Bible in an asylum seeker residence where he lived.
The 50-year-old woman was stabbed with a knife while visiting in an asylum seeker accommodation in Timelkam in Voecklamarkt in Upper Austria.
Her alleged attacker was a 22-year-old man from Afghanistan who had taken offence to the fact that the woman had been invited by Christian residents of the property to discuss the bible,Metro UK reports.
When he found out what she was doing, he stormed into the kitchen where the woman was standing and tried to plunge the knife into her upper body.Luckily her thick winter coat protected her from serious injury, but she did injure her ear when she fell backwards from the force of the man’s violent blows.
When questioned by police, the man accepted he had overreacted but claimed he was suffering from ‘personal problems’.
He was ordered remanded in custody and taken to Wels Prison in Upper Austria.

An airline abruptly canceled its flights from JFK to Guyana in South America Saturday morning, leaving about 1,000 travelers stranded at the Queens airport.
Unfortunately, among those left stranded by Dynamic International Airways was Leezel Cambridge, a 27yrs old bride-to-be, who missed her own wedding.
It was all because of an unexplained snafu in the 2am flight.
Her husband had to tell their 300 guests, who were already waiting at their venue, that she wouldn’t be making it. “I had to cancel it,” she said of her nuptials.

The Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja, of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 102 bags of plastic rice branded “Beat Tomato Rice’’ with no date of manufacture. The Customs Area Controller of F.O.U. Comptroller Mohammed Haruna, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos.
He said that the commodity was stored for distribution as Yuletide gifts for the public. Haruna said that officers of the unit intercepted the plastic rice along Ikeja area on Monday, adding that a suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure. “Before now, I thought it was a rumour that the plastic rice is all over the country but with this seizure, I have been totally convinced that such rice exists. “We have done the preliminary analysis on the plastic rice. After boiling, it was sticky and only God knows what would have happened if people consumed it. “I advise those economic saboteurs who see Yuletide season as a peak period for nefarious acts to desist from such illegal business. “The unit has decided other operational modalities that will give them a run for their monies and count their losses,” NAN quoted the controller as saying. He described smuggling as a global phenomenon, adding that such act could not be curbed entirely but could be brought to its barest minimum. Haruna appreciated well-meaning Nigerians who provided the service with prompt information that led to the discovery of the bags of plastic rice. The controller, however, advised the media to educate the public on the existence of plastic rice, adding that it was no longer a rumour. Haruna assured Nigerians that the distribution point of the particular plastic rice seized by the unit had been blocked with immediate effect. He said that investigation was still ongoing. The controller said the unit would hand over the plastic rice to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control for proper investigation.
A 33-year-old man, Segun Ogunlusi, who allegedly killed his mother, Abimbola Ogunlusi, on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, says he killed her because she persistently asked him for sex. The suspect was paraded at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Tuesday by the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu. Also paraded were 23 other suspects who were held for alleged robbery, stealing, cultism, and kidnapping.
We had reported that Segun had killed his mother and had dumped the corpse in a soakaway on Oketunde Street, Molatori, Ogijo, in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state. Segun told that he was provoked by his mother’s alleged incessant sex demand, saying that he could no longer endure it. He said, “I killed my mother because she had been demanding sex persistently from me. “She said if I had sex with her, I would be free. On a particular Tuesday, two of us were at home; she was in the kitchen when I walked up to her, stabbed her in the stomach and she died. “I poured kerosene on her corpse in a bid to burn her, but the corpse did not burn. Later, I dumped the corpse in a soakaway.” Segun, who looked remorseful, said he regretted his action. “I regret everything I did,” he said. Apart from Segun, four suspected cultists were paraded. The suspects, Yusuf Dosumu, the ring leader; Moruf Karounwi, Bello Jamiu and Tayo Akinsanya, were reportedly nabbed in Ogijo, in the Sagamu LGA by the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on Wednesday, December 14. Iliyasu said the gang was responsible for the death of more than 20 people in the area. He said weapons recovered from the gang included one Baretta pistol loaded with one live ammunition, one locally-made cut-to-size single-barrelled gun and four expended cartridges. Dosumu, however, denied ever killing anybody. Five suspected robbers, who allegedly gang-raped a lady on Abiola Way, Abeokuta, on Sunday, November 11, 2016, and dispossessed her of a mobile phone and N55,000, were also paraded. The suspects’ names were given as Damilola Sholanke, Akintola Adeshola, Abdulkareem Ismaila, Olamilekan Johnson and Omidina Ahmed. Three other suspected robbers, who invaded the Awa-Ijebu office of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, were also paraded. A member of a gang of robbers who robbed a resident of Ijebu Ife of N400,000, was also paraded. The suspect name was given as Adekoya Adesoye. Two others, who were caught for alleged theft of a Lexus L-300 – Ifeoluwa Monday and John Edesiri – were equally paraded. The suspects were said to have been arrested on Monday, December 5, 2016, while taking the car to Delta State for sale. A member of a kidnapping ring in Abeokuta, Okeleye Opeyemi, was also paraded. The suspect and other fleeing members of the gang, had allegedly kidnapped one Seun Osagie and locked up the victim in an uncompleted building in Osara village, Obantoko, Abeokuta. The victim was reportedly freed by policemen on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Meanwhile, Iliyasu warned against the use of explosives, such as bangers, during the Yuletide, adding that the law banning their use was still in force. He also warned those planning carnivals to do everything within the armbits of the law. He said, “Anybody who blocks the road or makes any road inaccessible to its users, and forcefully demands money or any item from members of the public will be treated like an armed robber.”

Some suspected armed robbers have written some Lagos residents, telling them to prepare to pay them for Christmas on a date not mentioned. Residents of Joseph Harrison Estate in the Yaba area of Lagos State got the letter on Wednesday, notifying them of the impending attack on them.
The News Agency of Nigeria gathered that the letter was placed on the vehicle of one of the residents and was discovered when he was about to wash his car.
“We are coming this week to collect our dues and to visit tenants and landlords of Joseph Harrison Street. If you like, go and bring police or soldiers; we are coming to perform our duties.
If you cooperate, we will not kill, but if you fail to cooperate, blood will flow,” the letter read.
NAN noted on Thursday that sterner security measures had been put in place to protect lives and property on the estate.
The Chairman of the dommunity development association of the area, Mr. Bolanle Akinyemi, said the estate had enjoyed some peace for long, as it was protected by guards and the police from the Sabo Police Post.
“We are also mindful of the slum that surrounds us and we have been conscious of suspected criminals.
“No one has received such a letter before, but there was a case in 2013 when a company in the estate was robbed,” he said.
The chairman said they had reported the threat to the Sabo Police Division and more guards had been engaged on the estate.
Concerned residents urged the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, to increase police presence on the estate.
Wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, on Wednesday sought the protection of the House of Representatives against alleged harassment by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The former President’s wife laid a petition before the House in Abuja, complaining that her fundamental human rights were infringed upon by the anti-graft agency. A Peoples Democratic Party member of the House from Delta State, Mr. Lovette Idisi, had submitted the petition on behalf of Jonathan’s wife.
However, he told members that the document was signed by youth groups from six ethnic groups in the country. The youth groups were the Ijaw Youth Council; Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council; Ndokwa Youth Council; Arewa Consultative Forum; Yoruba Youth Council; and the Middle Belt Youth Council. Idisi, while conveying the complaints of Mrs. Jonathan to the House, said under the Nigerian constitution, mere allegations did not amount to guilt until a proper conviction by a competent court of law. He added, “This petition is in line with Section 36 where every citizen is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Mr. Speaker, the constant harassment of the former first lady is in a petition emanating from her that was sent to my office. “With the leave of the House, I seek your permission to lay the petition before the House.” The Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, referred the petition to the House Committee on Public Petitions for hearing. It is expected that the former President’ wife will come to the National Assembly when invited, to defend the petition. The key issue raised by the groups on behalf of Jonathan was that the EFCC had frozen her accounts and those of some of her close associates on account of corruption allegations. They noted that some of the affected individuals were not under investigation by the anti-graft agency, but the agency still froze their accounts. Part of the document read, “A simple cost benefit analysis of the EFCC’s current approach would reveal that it is harming this government’s strategic interest far more than the brief publicity it gets from its current modus operandi… “We are urging you to caution and rein in the EFCC to operate within the confines of its enabling laws, lest it becomes victim of the corrupting influence of absolute power. Mrs. Jonathan and the EFCC have had a running battle of late over the $31m in some companies’ accounts frozen by the EFCC. Jonathan is already in court over the matter.

A baby boy bearing two heads was been born in India, described as a 'miracle' by doctors, unfortunately, he died 32 hours later.
DailyMail reports that the baby boy was born on Monday morning local time to his 20-year-old mother at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, in Ajmer, Rajasthan, in northern India, and weighed about 2.5 kilograms (5lbs 7oz).
Dr Jaiprakash Narayan, an assistant professor of the paediatric medicine department, said everyone who heard about the miracle birth wanted to catch a glimpse of the remarkable baby.
'A baby boy with two heads was born yesterday in a healthy state,' he said.
'It was the couple's first child, which probably explains why they didn't see a doctor during the pregnancy and take extra precautions.
'The mother completed her pregnancy full-term and was doing well post surgery but the baby suffered breathing issues.'
Dr Jaiprakash weighed up whether to operate on the newborn but eventually thought it was too difficult.
'The operation is possible in some cases of conjoined twins but here it was nearly impossible,' he said. 'Despite having two pairs of all of their internal organs they were all trapped in one body, with only one pair of arms and legs. You cannot separate such children.'
The baby was kept in the intensive care unit.
His mother and 24-year-old father however decided to leave and take their son home despite the risks and warnings from hospital staff.
The baby died 32 hours after his birth.
His parents are struggling to come to terms with their loss and have been turning to family members for support.

The federal government has advertised the sale of two aircraft in the presidential fleet, in an apparent move to cut down the size of the fleet.
The fleet is believed to hold as much as 10 airplanes, and Mr. Buhari has been criticised for maintaining the large fleet.
Garba Shehu, the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, hinted in September that the number of aircraft in the fleet would be reduced.
The Office of the National Security Adviser advertised the sale of two airplanes on Tuesday.
The advert, published on page 35 of Tuesday’s edition of ThisDay Newspaper, said the aircraft up for sale were Falcon 7x and Hawker 4000.
The advertorial detailed the specification of the planes as well as their performance levels, indicating that they were in pretty good condition.
Interested buyers are advised to inspect the Falcon at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
On the other hand, the Hawker 4000 can only be inspected at Cessna Zurich Citation Service Centre, Zurich, Switzerland.
The bids are to be quoted in dollars, the notice said.

A blind hoarder who had always wondered what became of her son 20 years ago has discovered that he was lying dead upstairs the whole time. But because there was so much junk and bad smells in the house, she apparently had no idea.
Authorities in New York say they believe the woman thought he had simply left home without saying anything,aily Mirror reports.

The mother is now quite elderly and had been living with the skeletal remains of her son, possibly for as long as 20 years, the New York Post reports.
She is a legally blind hoarder who may not have even known he was there, NYPD sources told the paper.The chilling discovery was made on 15 September when a relative arrived at Rita Wolfensohn’s home in Midwood.Rita was in hospital and needed some things, and the relative was helping out.
Upstairs, in a bedroom stuffed full of items, the sister-in-law Josette Buchman found a “completely intact” skeleton, dressed in jeans, socks and a shirt, lying on its back on a thin mattress on the floor, police sources told The Post.
The law-enforcement source told the paper it was like something out of Hitchcock’s finest horror – the 1960 flick in which a son, Norman Bates,keeps his dead mother’s remains in a basement.
The source said: “It was like some reverse ‘Psycho’ scene.”
However, it seems investigators really believe Ms Wolfensohn may not have known she was living with the corpse of her son.Cobwebs and garbage filled the room where the body was found.The smell of decaying food had long replaced any odour of rotting flesh.
Police asked her about her son, and she talked as if he had simply moved out.
Authorities have not yet officially identified the body but believe the man was Wolfensohn’s son and that he died of natural causes.
According to public records, Wolfensohn had two sons, Michael and Louis.
Relatives said they had not seen Louis - who today would be 49 years old - in 20 years.

A pastor with the Christ Apostolic Church, Onigbogbo, Atan Ota, Ogun State, Pastor Olusegun Omoniyi, is critically ill after he was allegedly abducted and tortured by some members of the Oodua People’s Congress.
It was learnt that 45-year-old Omoniyi had also gone into hiding after he was rescued by policemen from the Sango Area Command.He said he feared for his life as the OPC members had threatened to recapture and kill him.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the OPC members were acting on the instruction of some relatives of Omoniyi’s late wife, Omolade, who had vowed to deal with him over the sickness and subsequent death of the woman.Omoniyi and his wife married in 1999 and had a set of twins in 2000.
However, the twins were said to have died shortly after they were born.
It was learnt that since the death of the children, the couple had not been able to have any child, which resulted in pressures from Omolade’s family.
Early 2015, the wife was reported to have left the cleric despite entreaties from church leaders and relatives of the husband.
PUNCH Metro gathered that seven months after separating from the husband, the 42-year-old was attacked by a strange illness.
Omoniyi said,
“She had told me that her family members didn’t want her to continue living with me, but I begged her to stay.“However, sometime in 2015, I went for a church meeting when some of her family members came. They took away her property. Attempts at getting her family members to reconcile us were abortive as they said she had made her choice. “However, in July 2015, I was told she was sick. On the instruction of the church leadership, I went with some other elders to give her N50,000. But her brother did not allow us to see her, saying I should go alone to see her. We refused.
“On February 6, 2016, while I was leading a church programme around 10am, four men entered the church. Two of them were OPC members and the others – Adebayo and Stephen – were my wife’s relatives. While I was on the altar, the two OPC members said they had come to take me away. “I told them that I would not follow them since I did not know where they were taking me to. They beat me up and one of them showed me a gun and said if I didn’t cooperate, he would kill me.”
Omoniyi said he was thrown into a car belonging to his wife’s eldest brother, adding that he was blindfolded throughout the journey.
The cleric explained that he later found himself in Ijoko, the camp of the OPC, saying the men tortured him before taking him inside a clinic where his wife had been admitted.
“In one of the rooms, I saw my wife on the bed. Her legs were swollen and there was blood all over the place. I asked her why she left the house and what I did wrong “While talking to her, my in-laws started beating me. I have never suffered such torture. I told my wife right there that God would judge our matter,” he added.
He said he sneaked into the clinic’s toilet where he made a call to a church leader informing him of his location, adding that the latter informed the police who stormed the area and rescued him.It was learnt that Omolade died the following day.
The church leadership was reported to have sent a delegation to condole with the family, and Omoniyi also accompanied the men.
It was learnt that the deceased’s family allegedly attacked the group, insisting that Omoniyi must take his wife’s corpse with him.
“To appease them, I told them to find where they would bury her and I would bear part of the cost, but they refused. “As I was leaving, they blocked the road and said they would burn the two vehicles we took there. The OPC members, who had earlier abducted me, came and dragged me to where the corpse was. “After beating me again, they put me on the corpse and said I must die with her. They put me in a car with the corpse. I couldn’t recognise anybody until I saw some policemen who rescued me the second time,” he said.
Omoniyi said he was taken to a private hospital, adding that the location was not disclosed to protect his life.He alleged that a top police officer was also backing his in-laws, saying he had gone into hiding for security reasons.
He lamented that his wife’s family had taken away his landed property, adding that his life was in danger.
It was learnt that the matter had already got to the CAC supreme council and the church had not been able to resolve the case as Omolade’s eldest brother was a top pastor in the church.
PUNCH Metro saw petitions addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Area Commander, Sango-Ota, Officer-in-charge, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Abeokuta, among others.
The petitions called for the arrest of Omoniyi’s in-laws and the OPC members for the alleged abduction and torture.
A top leader with the CAC, who did not want to be identified, said the case had become critical, appealing to Nigerians to rescue Omoniyi.
When contacted, one of the in-laws, Paul, said the case was a family matter, adding that he could not comment on it.

The name of the Democratic nominee, the first woman in American history to win a major party nomination for president, was misspelled on souvenir tickets handed out to students at Hofstra University.
The tickets given to 350 students who won coveted seats in a lottery to attend the debate misspelled Clinton’s first name — “Hilary” — TV networks NBC and CBS reported.
“These tickets are not official tickets to the debate,” Hofstra University spokeswoman Karla Schuster told AFP in a statement.
“They were printed at the last minute to create a souvenir for the students who won the ticket lottery,” she added. “We will reprint them.”
The official tickets to the debate did not include the names of either Clinton or her Republican rival Trump.
Hofstra previously hosted presidential debates in 2008 and 2012. Founded in 1935, it is a private university of 10,870 students 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of New York in Hempstead, Long Island.
A middle-aged woman identified as Agnes on Sunday in Abakaliki lost the pot of rice she was cooking to thieves. A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who visited Agnes’s residence behind Nnodo Secondary School, Amike-Aba on Monday reports that she was still in shock over the incident.
It took repeated appeals by the correspondent to make Agnes talk, as she maintained that her husband had barred her from speaking further on the issue to avoid negative attention to the family.She said
“I came back from a village-meeting late on Sunday and put the rice on fire so that my family could have their dinner and eat the remnant on Monday morning. “This apartment, as you can see, has no kitchen so we cook in the space in front of the house, likewise other occupants of the building,” she said.
Agnes said that as she went inside her room to fetch some condiments, she was delayed by the attention she had to give to her crying child.
“I gave attention to my child who was crying and by the time I came out to continue cooking, the pot of rice had vanished, with the stove still enkindled.“After I recovered from the shock, I started screaming which attracted my husband, family members and neighbours who were all as stupefied. “When it was established that no occupant of the building took the pot, it dawned on us that the act was perpetrated by a thief who exploited the vulnerability of the improvised kitchen,” she said.
The woman declined further comments but her neigbour, Justin Mbam-Egbe, noted that the situation had re-awakened security consciousness among the occupants of the house. A private security consultant in Abakaliki, Dr John Odikwa, blamed such incident on the current economic recession in the country.
“The country has degenerated to a level that people now steal pots of rice and soup and with the yuletide approaching, the society should be ready for serious security challenges.“The Federal Government should take immediate measures to alleviate the sufferings of the people to prevent total breakdown of law and order,” he said.
A 52-year-old man, Ige Aruya, will spend six years in prison for posing as landlord to defraud a nollywood actress of N820, 200, A Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, presided over by Mrs Kikelomo Ayeye, sentenced Aruya after finding him guilty of a two charges of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences. Ayeye said that all the evidence before the court showed without doubt that Aruya was guilty of the charges and sentenced Aruya to prison with hard labour and without an option of a fine. “The Jeep found in the convict’s possession should be sold at the rate of N820, 200 and the money should be given to the complainant,” she held.
The Prosecutor, Insp Nurudeen Thomas, had told the court that the accused and two others still at large committed the offences on Jan. 22, 2015 at Lekki, Lagos. He said the trio collected N820, 200 from Tamara Eteimo, an actress, with a promise of leasing a self-contained apartment to her. “The accused and his accomplice are in the business of defrauding innocent accommodation seekers in Lekki, Ajah and Surulere areas of Lagos State. “Aruya posses as the landlord, while his accomplices pose as the agents. They take people to unoccupied apartments claiming that it is for rent to defraud them. “The accused is also facing similar charge at a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos,” Thomas said. Thomas said the offences contravened sections 316 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
A Jos Chief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced two labourers, Friday Duro, 21, and Friday Audu, 22, to 14 months in prison for stealing a bag of rice. The duo, who reside at Jenta Adamu Street in Jos are facing a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft. The Magistrate, Mr Jovita Binjin, sentenced them after they pleaded guilty to the crime and pleaded for leniency. In their plea they said that hunger led them to the crime. “It was hunger that led us to do it, we have stayed without food for days and we needed money to buy food. “Have mercy on us we will not do it again,’’ they pleaded. The magistrate in his ruling said that the accused were sentenced to four months in prison for trespass. “I hereby sentence you to four months in prison for the offence of trespass or pay a fine of N 2, 000 and 10 months in prison for the offence of theft or a fine of N 3, 000,’’ the magistrate ruled. He said that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar acts. Olokunbola Blessing sees this as unfair, because majority of our leaders ( Politicians) are thieves stealing Billion of Naira of our money and when arrested by EFCC and charged to court, the Judge asking them to pay the sum of 2 million or 5 months imprisonment. Tell me, some one that stole Billion of Naira, wont he afford to pay the 2 million Naira.Our Judges are corrupt, after collecting bride from them. I think is right time to be sentencing our corrupt leaders to death by hanging or giving them life imprisonment and as this would serve as a deterrent to those who might want to embezzle our money.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sergeant Thomas Amuku, told the court that one Agbat Luke, a security man attached to the Satellite Market, Jos, arrested the accused and handed them over to the police on Sept. 20. Amuku said “the accused persons trespassed into the market and broke into a shop to steal but were apprehended’’. He said that during police investigation, the accused confessed to stealing a bag of rice belonging to one Asabe Amos. The prosecutor said that the accused admitted selling the bag of rice to one Mrs Asabe Alechenu for N 3, 000. He said that the accused went back to steal another bag of rice but luck ran out on them and they were apprehended. Amuku said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
