A robbery suspect, Azubuike Nwachukwu (27), has stabbed his brother, Thankgod (28), to death following a disagreement over sharing of robbery loot.
PUNCH Metro learnt that after Azubuike stabbed his brother at Oke Afo, Badagry Road, he immediately took to his heels but was apprehended by policemen on patrol who were attracted by Thankgod’s scream.
It was learnt that Azubuike confessed that he stabbed his brother over disagreement on sharing of money they made from a robbery operation.
Azubuike said he had expected that they would share the loot equally but accused Thankgod of trying to cheat him.
According to police reports, during interrogation, Azubuike said they had robbed someone of N1m after a tip-off by a witch doctor whom he identified as Pascal Onyebuchi.
Azubuike said Onyebuchi was their informant and the mastermind of their robbery operations.
He added that Onyebuchi received N500,000 and left the remaining money for him and his brother.
It was learnt that Azubuike subsequently led a team of police detectives to Onyebuchi’s house at Mowo-Igewo, Badagry but the 42-year-old witch doctor denied knowing the suspect.
Our correspondent gathered that the two were being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, said Azubuike’s corpse had been deposited at Isolo General Hospital’s mortuary.
He said, “On April 19, 2012, policemen attached to the Ilemba Division arrested Azubuike for stabbing his brother.
“Thankgod was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died. Azubuike said Thankgod and himself were to share the sum of N500,000 equally but the deceased took N350,000 which infuriated Azubuike and he stabbed his brother.
“Azubuike and Onyebuchi, the alleged accomplices are presently at the Anti-Robbery section at the SCID.”
