Nigerians should limit the number of children they are having, according to the country’s leader. President Goodluck Jonathan said people were having too many children, and went on to back birth control measures. He said that in particular, uneducated people were having too many children, and urged people to only have as many children as they could afford.

The United Nations has estimated that the population of Nigeria could grow from 160m to 400m by 2050. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, and previous attempts to encourage adults to have fewer children have failed.

Mr Jonathan said legislation and policies aimed at controlling the number of births might be considered in future. He said he had asked the National Population Commission to inform people about birth control before taking the issue further. The president acknowledged that the issue was a sensitive one, saying:

    “We are extremely religious people… It is a very sensitive thing.”

    Mr Jonathan was quoted as saying :

   

“Both Christians and Muslims, and even traditionalist and all the other religions, believe that children are God’s gifts to man. “So it is difficult for you to tell any Nigerian to number their children because… it is not expected to reject God’s gifts.”

But its true. Our own na 2 born al ova d place jst say bcos pickin na gift 4rm God. Bt 2 train dem wel na wahala. B4 u knw it,dey al turn 2 nuisance in d society. Wetin dey dere 2 born d numba u fit afford? Very low mentality of nigerians. U c a couple wit 6 to 10 children,livin in abject poverty.and na so d poverty go continue o bcos d man didnt plan d lives of d children wel. Birth control is not d biggest problem in naija,there are more pressing problems that needs to be tackled fast like Boko Haram bombings,Oga Jona abeg face ur responsibilies

To my own understanding, this fool called Badluck Nathanjo is clueless of what and how to go about adrressing the nation's problem. He is unaware that all that is happening in the country is a cumulative effect of bad governace. Even if naija population is reduced to 30 milion today, the problems are still there because the mentality of the people is not changed. Beside, Badluck forget that it is the money meant for the masses that him, his wife and his cohort are hoarding and suffering the poor masses. This animal should be in zoo as he is a zoologist and not in Aso rock. The most painful thing about this witless man is tha he behaves as if he does not know what is going on, but he is the one benefiting from all these happening in the country.
