Komla Dumor was born on 3 October 1972 in Accra, Ghana. Prior to joining the BBC in 2007, he worked for Accra based private radio station Joy FM, for over a decade where he began as a traffic reporter and later the host of Joy FM’s super morning show.





He was awarded the Ghana Journalists’ Association’s Journalist of the Year in 2003.

Komla Dumor left the shores of Ghana for the BBC in 2007 where he presented Network Africa on the African service of the BBC before proceeding to the world service were he hosted The World Today programme.

He also hosted the BBC's first-ever dedicated daily TV news programme in English for African audiences, broadcast on BBC World News and rebroadcast to African audience on partner television stations across the continent.

Komla Dumor became the first host of the African business news programme on BBC World News, Africa Business Report in 2009.

Komla has travelled across Africa, meeting Africa's top entrepreneurs and reporting on the latest business trends around the continent.

He was one of the lead presenters for BBC World News' European morning segment and has interviewed a number of high-profile guests including Bill Gates and Kofi Annan.

He has anchored live coverage of major events including the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the funeral of Kim Jong Il, the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, the Norway shootings and the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Komla holds a BA in Sociology and Psychology from the University of Ghana, and an MPA from Harvard University.

I enjoyed listening to Komla's vioce whenever he was reading the news and when presenting other programmes.

Tributes have been paid to BBC TV presenter Komla Dumor, who died suddenly at his London home on Saturday at the age of 41. It is thought he suffered a heart attack. A Ghanaian, Dumor joined the BBC in 2007 and became a presenter for BBC World News and its Focus on Africa programme. R I P
