The gang leader, called Peter, A.K.A. K Boy, was gunned down in Owerri, Imo State, by SARS operatives when he attempted to escape from a popular hotel he used as his hideout.
The suspects were identified as Ugochukwu Ezeoma, Samuel Oha, Obinna Ohuoha, James Emoh, Bernard Okoro and Habeeb Garba.
They met their waterloo when they kidnapped a businessman in the Agbara area of Ogun State.
Gang leader killed
After SARS operatives caught the six suspects in Lagos, Ogun and Anambra states, they moved to Imo State to track down K Boy.
Vanguard gathered that the suspect, on sighting the police, entered his car, a Sports Utility Vehicle, and forced his way out through the hotel’s rear gate and the police shot him.
The other suspects confessed that they usually kept their victims in warehouses.
One of them, Ezeoma, who claimed to be 27 years old, confessed to have been involved in the kidnap of the Briton last year.
He said after last year’s kidnap, he vowed not to return to kidnapping but was lured back into the illegitimate business.
Another suspect, Garba, a motorcycle operator, said his role was to collect ransom. He said he was shot during the last operation when he attempted to collect a N10 million ransom.
… kill Delta bizman ‘for resisting arrest’

WARRI— POLICE have shot dead a businessman, Ogagaoghene Ununuze, at Oleh, Delta State, for allegedly resisting arrest and obstructing investigation.
Citizens who were incensed by the unpleasant incident carried the remains to the Nigeria Police Station, Oleh, demanding explanation for the extra judicial killing.
Delta State Police spokesperson, Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the death to Vanguard said the matter was under investigation.
She, however, said it was not just a case of a policeman shooting somebody, but that there was an allegation that the person attempted to snatch a gun from a police officer.
Elder brother of the deceased, Mr. Adam Ununuze, however, denied that the deceased resisted arrest, saying Ogagaoghene only insisted on knowing why the police came to arrest him.
He explained that some policemen from Oleh Police Station had, the previous day, came to arrest a member of the family, Friday Ununuze, whom they beat up following a complaint by another man (names withheld).
Adam said the assault infuriated the deceased, who asked them politely to stop beating his brother as he (Friday) was mentally unstable.
Lawyer calls for justice
The family’s solicitor, Oghenjabor Ikimi, who also spoke to Vanguard said: “The next day, the Divisional Police Officer of the said police station ordered five armed policemen to arrest the deceased for obstructing his policemen the previous day.
“The said policemen began to cart away the wares of the deceased into their Hilux van. When the deceased insisted on knowing his offence, he was assaulted by the policemen.
“They gave him several blows and eventually shot him on the head and waist. He died immediately. The said policemen sped off.”
Ikimi called on the Inspector General of Police “to order an impartial investigation into the case in a bid to bringing all the erring policemen involved to book, to serve as a deterrent to other trigger-happy policemen, who take delight in killing unarmed civilians they are trained to protect.”
