A 39-year-old man, Segun Adeleke, has been arrested in Oyo, Oyo State for armed robbery 24 hours after the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Muktar Abimbola, granted him amnesty.
The suspect, who was arrested by men of the state police command in Abu village via Akinmorin in Oyo on November 5, 2015, was among the 45 inmates that enjoyed the special pardon from the Chief Judge.
Adeleke was one of the armed robbery suspects paraded by the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Leye Oyebade, in Ibadan yesterday.
The suspect confessed that he had been sentenced to prisons twice. He said the first time lasted for two years while he was serving a jail term of five years before he was granted amnesty last week.
According to him, he was imprisoned in the first instance for stealing money and in the second instance, he stole a motorcycle.
Adeleke said when he was released last week, there was no place he could go and he was hungry. So, he decided to rob a man of his motorcycle so that he could sell and use the money to sustain his living.
The suspect claimed that he was abducted by a woman when he was seven years old from Ibadan, his birthplace and taken to Oyo town. He explained that his efforts to locate his root since then did not yield positive result.
The police boss accused the suspect of robbing one Saheed Azeez of his motorcycle on November 5, when he was returning from his farm.
“The victim was returning from his farm at Abu village via Akinmorin in Oyo, on the fateful day when he was attacked by the suspect who had barricaded the road with logs.
“Though fatally injured with a broken Coca-cola bottle, the victim raised the alarm, which eventually led to the arrest of the fleeing suspect. The snatched motorcycle with Registration Number: QC 853 LUY was later recovered from the suspect.
Oyebade also paraded a 400-Level male student of the department of Transport, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Kayode Oluwaseyi, for allegedly breaking into students’ hostels. Oyebade said the suspect also stole valuable property and sometimes raped his female victims.
The police boss said the suspect belonged to a notorious criminal gang aka, three Mopols. Oluwaseyi was paraded with two others, Adeyemi Taiwo and Adeyemi Kehinde, who were said to have been receiving some of the stolen items.
“They confessed that they have burgled several houses and carried out many robbery operations in Ogbomoso area.
“Items recovered from Oluwaseyi include one toy pistol, seven assorted laptops, 34 assorted phones, one Olympic camera, one LG plasma Television, three stabilisers, one GOTV decoder, Six different laptops, and a sum of N126, 500 cash.”
