Yesterday while Toke Makinwa was in London hosting a meet & greet for her best selling memoir On Becoming, news reached us that her estranged husband Maje Ayida had slammed her with a 100 million Naira defamation lawsuit!
He is suing her over claims she made about him in the tell all book, which was pretty much her account of her 14 year relationship with Ayida. In it she claims he gave her STDs, cheated on her constantly, attributed her skin bleaching to him & more.
According to The Cable, Ayida through his lawyers, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) of Pinheiro LP, initiated legal proceedings on February 7 at the Lagos judicial division of the high court, Lagos state. He is also suing the book’s publishers – Kachifo Limited.
But if he wins Ayida does not want a dime from his estranged wife, instead he has requested the court donate damages awarded him to four charities which will be nominated by him.
The lawsuit is a follow-up to the letter Ayida served Makinwa in December 2016 demanding that she retracts the defamatory words contained in the memoir and also to tender an unreserved apology in several national dailies.
None of which she did, hence the lawsuit.
Toke & Maje tied the knot on January 15, 2014, after being together for close to 12 years. In 2015 it was revealed another woman, Anita Solomon had given birth to a boy during their marriage.
Toke who has been served the lawsuit doesn’t seem fazed by it though, she is currently in London promoting the book.
