At least 800 passengers were left stranded at Gatwick for five days after a Nigerian airline canceled its flights and disappeared without formal communication.
As tension quickly rose, police were called to maintain order in the south terminal, local newspaper, The Sun reported on Friday.
The newspaper said some of the 800 travellers had their festive breaks ruined, with many sleeping on the floor since Friday December 22 before they were reluctantly taken to hotels.
Nigerian airline Med-View blamed technical problems on the flight cancellations. It said one its three planes being out of action.
The Sun quoted Dami, 26, of Coventry, who missed his family’s Christmas in Lagos, as saying that: “I feel abandoned.
Ola has spent Christmas without his family
“I feel abandoned and disrespected. I’ve been told there will be no flights until next year.”
