A fearless doctor has performed the gastrocopy procedure on himself in order to check his own stomach.

A daredevil doctor in eastern China performed a gastroscopy on himself to check his stomach after feeling unwell in that area, Yahoo News reports.

The video, filmed in Yiwu City in eastern Zhejiang Province on March 5, shows the 32-year-old doctor named Jin Chengfeng putting a gastroscope into his own stomach, while sitting in front of a screen to check the findings himself.

Jin has been a doctor for five years and performed gastroscopies for his patients for tens of thousands of times.

The procedure normally takes only 10 minutes but he spent more than an hour to perform it on himself.

According to the UK National Health Service, a gastroscopy is a procedure where a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope is used to look inside the oesophagus (gullet), stomach and first part of the small intestine (duodenum). It’s also sometimes referred to as an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

The endoscope has a light and a camera at one end. However, the NHS says though a gastroscopy is a very safe procedure, its possible complications include internal bleeding, tearing (perforation) of the lining of the patient’s oesophagus, stomach or duodenum.

Dr. Jin Chengfeng survived the experiment.
