ANY ONE who fails to comply with the new National Minimum Wage Act when passed by the National Assembly is likely to pay a fine not exceeding N50,000, and in the case of continuing offence, to a fine not exceeding N100,000 for each day during which the offence continues.
Violators may also pay a fine of N100, 000 or be sentenced to a prison term not exceeding six months or “both fine and imprisonment.”

These are some of the amendments proposed by the Alfa Belgore committee on amendment of the new national minimum wage presented to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, in Abuja, yesterday.

The amendments came as the negotiating committee of government, labour and employers, yesterday, proposed a new minimum wage of N18,000 per month for the least paid worker.  However, there was no fixed date for the implementation of the new minimum wage as it is subject to a review of the National Minimum Wage Act 2000 by the National Assembly.

That will be nice. But one thing remain.
Nigeria is good at making policy, but implementation is a big problem.
lets watch and see the outcome.

lol@ eyevee

anyways, guess they re calling 4 more retrenchments... and the few ones that re gonna be retained will be subjected to hard-labor  by their employees.... lol...      it means the unemployment rate in Nigeria 'll be sky-rocketed. and the general cost of living will also double.

let's hope it works out well to the benefit of our people back home sha.

I read everywhere Nigerians congratulating the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Government, can anybody live on 18,000 naira a month in Nigeria? what will he/she buy with it, is he going to be drinking Gari and groundnut 3 times a day for a month? the government failed to take into account how much is the cost of food items, transport, clothing not to talk of the responsibilities of those with family.  The difference between people on level 1-5 and the people on the upper scale is too mum, this will not encourage productivities, junior workers in the ministries will still be taking bribes as usual, the minimum wage at least should start from 50,000 with the current inflation rate in the country.  The cash is there if the politicians and the big oga in the offices will stop embezzlement.  people need to survive on lively wage.
