MALAYSIAN POLICE are looking into the possibility that Wednesday's RM100,000 seizure of high-grade Heroin No 4 by
the Kuala Lumpur narcotics police is linked to international syndicates shipping drugs from the Golden
Crescent to West African buyers in Malaysia.

In March, Malay Mail reported that Pakistani drug mules were delivering drugs to West Africans, including
Nigerians, based in Malaysia for onward shipment to countries where they fetch high prices.

A police source said the final destinations for the couriers include Japan, China, Taiwan and Australia.
The Pakistani mules would earn anything between US$2,000 (RM7,000) and US$10,000 per trip.

KL narcotics chief ACP Kang Chez Chiang said a 26-year-old Nigerian business administration student was arrested at a playground on Jalan Metro Perdana, Taman Usahawan, Kepong, in a joint operation by KL and Federal narcotics police.

Kang said the man was carrying a plastic bag filled with 100 indigestible pellets of heroin, weighing 1.164kg.

With 1kg of Heroin No 4 valued at RM80,000, police estimate the value of the heroin seized at RM100,000. However, the drug can fetch up to four times more in other East Asian countries.

“We also seized RM119 and US$13,700 from him,” Kang said.

Follow-up action led police to the arrest of two Pakistanis aged 26 and 40 at Jalan Bukit Bintang and three more Pakistani men aged between 23 and 36 at a condominium in Taman Usahawan Kepong, where US$9,400 was also seized. The 26-year-old is a Malaysian citizen of Pakistan descent.

Urine tests for drugs on all those arrested proved negative.

Wednesday's seizure came just a couple of days after three Africans, one of them a woman, two Pakistanis and a Nigerian student were arrested by Selangor narcotics police in separate raids in the Klang
Valley, when 16.5kg of heroin worth RM1.3 million was also seized.
