The late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, will be buried today in Abuja. Personal Assistant on New Media to President Buhari, Basir Ahmad, made this known on his Twitter handle on Saturday morning.
He said,
“Mallam Abba Kyari will be buried later today in Abuja according to Islamic rites.
He will be received by friends and cabinet colleagues at the airport in Abuja from where he will later be taken to a cemetery in the nation’s capital for burial, Mr Shehu said.
The burial will not be made open in compliance with the existing social distancing directive aimed at curbing the spread of the deadly virus.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had earlier this month stated that corpses of persons, who die of Coronavirus in the country can’t be claimed by their families for burial.
According to Mohammed, such bodies would be contagious and therefore must be handled by ministry of health officials.
“In some countries, they are putting dead bodies in big refrigerators because the morgues have filled up.
“Nigerians should not forget that these are not the type of corpses that can be claimed for burial because it must be handled by the ministry of health.”
Mr Kyari was diagnosed of the deadly coronavirus disease in March 23, which he reportedly contracted while in Germany for a conference.
He was initially receiving treatment in Abuja before he was transferred to a private hospital in Lagos on March 29.
