MEND claims responsibility for Afren oil rig attack

The Movement for the Manicipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) on Tuesday morning claimed responsibility for the attack of an offshore oil rig operated by exploration firm Afren in which five crew members kidnapped including foreigners and two injured.

The attack took place on Sunday in the shallow-water Okoro oilfield off the Obolo local government area of Akwa Ibom.

In a statement sent to reporters via email, the spokesperson of the group, Jomo Gbomo said that the attack was carried out by MEND fighters.
