The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Osuntuyi, 25, was also accused of being a member of a secret cult in the university.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Caleb Lerano, told the court that the accused was arrested by the police on January 3 at about 11.30 pm along Adebayo Street in Ado-Ekiti with a locally made pistol.
Lerano said the offence was contrary to Section 28, subsection (B), (1), (2) of the Firearms Act, Cap 146, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990.
NAN reports that the accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. S.I Ojo, granted him bail in the sum of 50,000 and two sureties with verifiable addresses within Ado-Ekiti.
He also ordered that the sureties should produce two passport photographs each and adjourned the case till January 31, for further hearing.
