The Appeal Court sitting in Benin City, the Edo State capital on Tuesday sacked former Governor Osarhiemen Osunbor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared Mr. Adams Oshiomhole of the Action Congress (AC) the lawfully elected governor of the state in the April 2007 governorship polls. The five-man panel, led by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umaru Abdulahi, after exhaustively dissecting the grounds of appeal filed by all parties in the case, ruled in favour of the former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC). Osunbor and the PDP had filed various grounds of appeal seeking to upturn the earlier ruling of the Justice Phillip Umeadi-led state election petitions tribunal which had earlier declared Oshiomhole the duly elected governor of the state.
