NDLEA Uncovers Illicit Drug Consignment In Commercial Bus Engine, Arrests Two Grandpas

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives in Borno State have apprehended two elderly individuals, Mallam Mai Gemu Adam, aged 70, and Yamama Musa, aged 65, for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking activities. The arrests were made on Saturday, March 9th, in Maiduguri and Gamboru-Ngala respectively.

Accompanying the elderly suspects were two younger individuals, 24-year-old Abubakar Ya’u and 28-year-old Babagana Abubakar Ali. During the operation, NDLEA officers seized a significant quantity of tramadol injection, totaling 32,000 ampoules, from the suspects.

In a separate incident on the same day, NDLEA operatives intercepted a Golf 3 salon car en route to Gagamari in Niger Republic at Geidam, Yobe State. The vehicle's occupant, identified as Alhaji Mala Tijjani, aged 28, was found in possession of 40 blocks of cannabis weighing 24.5 kilograms, intended for distribution to another dealer.

Meanwhile, in Kaduna State, a driver named Mutari Ya’u, aged 29, was intercepted along Katsina road with 42 cartons containing 8,400 bottles of codeine syrup, weighing 1,260 kilograms, on Tuesday, March 5th.

In Kano State, NDLEA operatives arrested Nura Yusuf, aged 35, with 62 kilograms of cannabis in the Gadar Tamburawa area. Additionally, Abubakar Sani, aged 40, was nabbed with 244 bottles of codeine syrup, while Mohammad Alkali, aged 28, was found in possession of 49,800 pills of tramadol along the Kano-Maiduguri road on Thursday, March 7th.

In a related development, eight suspects were apprehended on Friday, March 8th, during a raid on the notorious Karu abattoir drug joint in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. NDLEA officers recovered 51.3 kilograms of cannabis from the suspects, identified as Buhari Muhammadu, Jamilu Muhammed, Abubakar Wappa, Yahaya Tasiu, Ezekiel Mulanda, Abba Haruna, Habibu Umar, and Shamsu Lawali.
