Former Anambra State governor, Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige, says, his estranged political godfather, Chris Uba has apologised to him for tormenting him during the 34 months he held sway as the governor.

Ngige says, Uba was an unfortunate fellow who was used to destabilise him but has forgiven him because he is his friend.
Uba was allegedly responsible for the foiled kidnap of Ngige, his bogey resignation and burning down of the state radio station and other property geared to forcefully remove Ngige as governor.
Ngige maintains that his ambition to return to the government house was truncated by INEC and says Iwu’s conduct has brought shame to Nigeria.

Speaking to Saturday Sun, the former governor alleged that there was a plan to kill him for going to Anambra state elections tribunal to challenge the election of Andy Uba as the governor. He equally submitted that history will be unkind to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo because he left Nigerians poorer that he met them. According to him, Obasanjo, failed to use the resources at his disposal to take Nigeria to an enviable level.

Why I went to tribunal
Ngige says the reason he went to elections tribunal was not to be declared the winner because, there was no election in the state but his grouse was his unlawful disqualification. "I was unlawfully excluded from contesting the election. Unlawful exclusion is a ground for nullification of an electoral exercise. I have given my papers to the tribunal, displayed the court judgment that directed INEC to put me on the ballot which it disobeyed. I also displayed the Supreme Court judgment on Atiku that shows that INEC does not have power to disqualify anybody without going to the court.

These two judgments pre-suppose that I will get justice from the tribunal. That is why some people are restive and sending emissaries that I should withdraw the petition. I have told them consistently that this is not a personal matter. It is not a question of Chris Ngige wanting to be a governor at all cost. It is not between Chris Ngige as a person and Emmanuel Nnamdi Uba as person. I’m exercising my rights because I’ve been made to look like a South African of the apartheid time–where you are not allowed to stand for elections in your country.

I’m a full blooded citizen of Nigeria. I have a right to contest in any election. I’m trying to bring up the destiny of the Anambra people, the people that have been psychologically brutalised and so we need to lift their psyche again. They must go for free and fair election to choose their leaders. All I’m saying, give me a platform to stand and contest for election. I am headed for the court to get the election quashed. My prayer is not to be declared winner because there was no election in Anambra, people didn’t vote. To actualize this, I have engaged the services of four Senior Advocates of Nigeria to be led by Prof. Ben Nwabueze, Emeka Ngige and two others.

Chris Uba apologises
The former governor says his frosty relationship with his former political godfather, Chris Uba who was a bone in his neck has now been normalized. They now have a cordial relationship.
" Chris Uba is an unfortunate fellow and a little bit gullible. He believed in his elder brother, Andy Uba. Whatever power Chris has, he got from the presidency through his elder brother. Andy put him forward and was using him.

Today, he has apologised to me on what happened. He explained to me the circumstances and the pressure that was on him from the presidency to do certain things that he did. That he was carrying out the assignments for some people. For me, I have forgiven him because he is my friend. He is the one who is my friend, not Andy. It is Chris who forged a friendship with me. See how God works. Today, Anambra people now know who was using tactics to forcefully get what he wants by destablising the state.

Threats to my life
The former governor alleges there are plots to assassinate him by his political opponents.
He claims his life is in grave danger, following threatening telephone calls he has received for going to the elections tribunal to challenge the declaration of Andy Uba by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the governor-elect of Anambra state. . According to him, the latest threat to his life came immediately he filed his petition at the tribunal. He says pressure has been put on him by some people to withdraw the petition.

"Somebody called to tell me that payment had been made for my elimination. A woman phoned my deputy, Fred Abasi to implore me to withdraw the petition, as she was somewhere in Enugu where the decision was reached to eliminate me. According to the plotters, the problem was their inability to kill me when I was kidnapped.

That the first plot was kidnap and the second, which is in the offing, will be death."
He said when he returned to the country and there was a threat to his life that he wrote to the IG to beef up his security. "The IG instead of beefing up my security withdrew the security detail assigned to me."
Why I’m the issue in Anambra politics.

Ngige says his name has been etched in the hearts of Anambra people because of his achievements in the state.

"The politics in Anambra has always been that of bread and butter. Anambra people saw me as somebody who has their interest at heart. When I came in as a governor, I decided to use governance to do some works for God. It turned out without my knowing it that in my little period of 34 months, I have done some great transformations in the lives of some Anambrarians by giving them roads, water, electricity, change the face of education, regular salaries for civil servants and pensioners, and many more. I touched the lives of the people in a way that they are saying no other politician except the former Eastern Region Premier, Dr. M. I. Okpara could be compared with me.

INEC failed
‘The INEC chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu has personal bitterness against me. He doesn’t like me. I don’t like him either because his conduct is a disgrace to our country and international community. I am ashamed the more because he is an Igbo man like me. Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, who conducted the freest election in Nigeria, did Igbo proud.

This time, the umpire is taking side in the game. What I’m asking him in the case of Anambra State that when the election is nullified, he should excuse himself. He has made very personal comments about me in the media, castigating my person. How can such a person be an umpire? He said I was not here when the electoral process was going on. He doesn’t know that I don’t necessary need to see his face to contest. The process is clear, I filed my papers and my party sends them in. He said I didn’t make myself available. The constitution doesn’t say that.

Later, he said that I didn’t fill INEC forms, when we showed him the acknowledgment of the receipt of my forms, he again said that the affidavit was sworn in America. Oath is oath, no matter where it is sworn. What he should have done was to look at my papers, if there was any false claim, challenge it in court. He sat in his office and disqualified me and told people that I’m a manipulator and blackmailer.

Obasanjo in history
According to the former governor, history is a surgeon that can be very unkind to you when you have not avail it of the materials it made available. He concludes that Obasanjo will be chronicled on the wrong side of history. " History will be very unkind to Obasanjo. Nigerians are poorer than he met them. He never availed himself of the resources made available to take Nigeria to a glorious level. He came in when crude oil was selling for $20 per barrel.

There after, it soared and was between $50 and $70. Yet, the lives of Nigerians never changed.
