Two people were feared dead on Monday as area boys from Fadeyi area of Ikorodu Road engaged in orgy of violence.
Besides, many people were injured, while properties were also destroyed by the hoodlums who freely used various weapons.
A victim, who identified himself simply as Peter, said the violence actually started in February 2010 but it was not frequent.
It was gathered that the Monday crisis was a spillover of last Thursday’s clash between hoodlums from Ereko and Lawani streets over who should should collect toll from traders in the area.
“On each container they (hoodlums) collect N3,500 and if a customer comes to purchase Plaster of Paris, they collect N200. They’ve been doing this for years. If you want to build a duplex for example, they will demand N250,000 from you,” a resident, who preferred to be anonymous, said.
Another resident, who did not want his name mentioned, confirmed that two people were killed, while his red Bajaj motorcycle with number plate QZ157KTU was snatched. “They also attacked motorists and robbed as well,” he added.
A trader in the area, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwudike, said as soon as the police arrived and started shooting, there was pandemonium in the area, adding that some motorists fled and abandoned their vehicles.
Efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, proved abortive as he did not pick his calls.
But a policeman, who spoke to one of our correspondents in confidence, said the police needed to carry out a thorough investigation to avert punishing innocent people.
