No fewer than 33 houses have been destroyed in Tukuikwi village in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State in a fire outbreak which started from a kitchen.

The fire had resulted in the complete burning down of the entire neighbourhood while un- quantifiable valuables mostly farm produce and domestic animals were also lost.

An eyewitness, Mallam Abubakar Maikifi, said he was praying at the community mosque in the evening when he heard shouts of help.

According to him, “When I rushed out of the mosque, I saw fire consuming house after house. The people were helpless as they could not quench or control it.

“I joined them and we used available water including water from the gutter but we couldn’t stop it until it razed the entire houses in the neighbourhood.”

Another eyewitness, who identified himself as Musa, said the fire could have been put under control if fire service officials had been around early enough.

The chairman of Guri Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Zugo, said the local government had constituted a committee that would assess the incident and proffer solution.
