During a courtesy visit to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Afrobeat star Davido has revealed his annual expenditure of N400 million on orphanages.

Akpabio, welcoming Davido on Monday, praised him for bringing international recognition to Nigeria with his performances.

“You have made us very proud within the international community,” Akpabio remarked to Davido, who was accompanied by his cousins Tunji Adeleke and Folasade Adeleke, among others.

Akpabio assured his guests of the Senate’s commitment to supporting the entertainment industry while urging them to uphold high ethical standards and resist negative peer influence.

He emphasized the importance of unity and working across party lines for Nigeria’s interest, highlighting the country’s unmatched population of over 240 million.

Akpabio advised Davido to stay clear of politics and focus on his contributions to the entertainment industry, stressing the value of talent and the need for patience and prayers to achieve success.

He cautioned against the pitfalls seen among some black stars in America and encouraged maintaining high standards.

In his statement, Davido discussed his foundation’s support for orphanages and his upcoming album release.

He emphasized the crucial role of private sector contributions in social welfare, complementing governmental efforts.

Davido mentioned that his annual spending on orphanages covers necessities like food, clothing, education, and medical care, ensuring holistic support for the children.

“I’m doing my part with my foundation, contributing N300 million to N400 million annually to orphanages,” Davido shared.

Akpabio commended Davido’s dedication and urged other celebrities and wealthy individuals to emulate his philanthropic efforts, noting that such activities greatly enhance governmental initiatives to improve the lives of disadvantaged Nigerians.

He also assured Davido of the Senate’s support in creating policies to encourage private contributions to social causes.
