In a swift response to a distress call, operatives from the Owerri Urban Area Command Headquarters apprehended two suspected criminals notorious for breaking into shops in Owerri Capital, bringing relief to residents and business owners in the area.

According to ASP Henry Okoye, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, the suspects, identified as Usman Suleiman from Kano State and Mohammed Ibrahim from Zaria, Kaduna State, were apprehended after allegedly breaking into a shop at Police Wives Association’s Plaza (POWA) located at Rapoul junction, Amakakohia.

"The hoodlums took to their heels on sighting the Police but were given a hot chase by the ever-gallant operatives which led to the arrest of the suspects while others escaped to the nearby bush, abandoning most of the items stolen from the shop. Efforts are on top gear to arrest other fleeing suspects and make them face the full wrath of the law," stated the PPRO.

A vast array of stolen items, including electronic gadgets, appliances, and valuable equipment, were recovered from the suspects. These items, valued at over two million Naira, include solar panels, electronics, generators, kitchen appliances, and mobile phones, among others.

The recovered items have been released on bond to the rightful owner, Mr. Idika Uchechukwu, while the suspects undergo comprehensive investigation pending their appearance in court.

Commending the prompt action of the officers and the invaluable assistance of the informant, State Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities promptly. He reiterated the commitment of the Police to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in combating crime and maintaining peace and order in the state.
