Former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has vehemently denied allegations suggesting that he utilized state funds amounting to $720,000 to pay for his children's school fees.

Bello's rebuttal comes in response to claims made by the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, regarding the purported withdrawal of state funds for this purpose.

In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Ohiare Michael, Bello refuted the assertions made by the EFCC Chairman, labeling them as misleading and unfounded.

The former governor clarified that his children had been enrolled at the American International School, Abuja, prior to his assumption of office, and he had consistently met their educational expenses as required.

Titled "Payment for School Fees: Setting the Records Straight," the statement emphasized that the fees in question were not disbursed from state coffers but were instead covered by Bello personally, with payments initiated in 2021.

Contrary to the EFCC's claims, Bello stressed that he neither misappropriated state funds nor engaged in any form of financial misconduct during his tenure as governor.

Furthermore, the statement reiterated that the EFCC had not recovered any funds belonging to Bello or his family members, challenging the accuracy of the allegations leveled against him.

As the controversy unfolds, Bello remains steadfast in his assertion of innocence, expressing readiness to seek legal recourse to address the defamatory statements made against him.
