Tragedy has struck the peaceful village of Marke in Dandamisa Ward, Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as suspected assassins brutally murdered the 30-year-old village head, Malam Kabiru Mohammed.
Malam Kabiru Mohammed, who ascended to the position of village head in 2018, tragically met his demise after reportedly sensing the presence of gunmen in his vicinity in the early hours of Thursday. In a desperate bid to evade the assailants, he sought refuge by hiding inside the ceiling of his home, accompanied by his elder brother, Tukur Mohammed.
Despite their efforts to conceal themselves, the gunmen combed through the compound, forcing everyone out as they searched for their targets. Tragically, Malam Kabiru Mohammed was discovered by the assailants, who mercilessly slaughtered him before setting his house ablaze.
The heart-wrenching incident has left the community in shock and mourning, with the body of the late village head unable to be recovered due to the extensive damage caused by the fire.
Aminu Sani Marke, the councilor of Dandamisa Ward, lamented the devastating loss and the brazenness of the gunmen's actions, revealing that the assailants plundered valuables worth millions of naira during their hour-long rampage.
Despite attempts to reach out to the Kaduna State Police Command for comment, the Police Public Relations Officer remained inaccessible, leaving the community grappling with unanswered questions and seeking justice for the slain village head.
As investigations into the heinous crime continue, residents of Marke and surrounding areas remain on edge, grappling with the aftermath of this senseless act of violence that has shattered their sense of security and peace.
