AT the last count, drug trafficking market in Africa was valued at about $3.2b and most of that money went to the coffers of what the United Nations called Nigerian organised crime groups.
The World Drug Report 2011 released over the weekend at the United Nations head office in New York disclosed under its African section: “In 2009, Africa’s drug trafficking market was worth an estimated US$3.2 billion – most of which went to Nigerian organised crime groups.”
Speaking at the formal launch of the report in New York, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said it “paints a sobering picture of the threat posed by illegal drugs.”
“Traffickers break more than the law,” he said. “They break the human spirit. They fuel terrorism and insurgency.
In a report compiled by the UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC), it was said: “Nigerian groups likely dominate the African drug trade and are active in many countries around the world, including destination countries in Europe.”
The UNODC report, which formed the basis of a UN Security Council briefing on Friday, also said: “drug trafficking in Africa involves both African networks, including Nigerians and Tanzanians, as well as foreign networks, including Chinese and Pakistanis.”
Besides, it was also revealed that “the heroin trade in Indonesia is predominantly controlled and directed by West Africans, particularly Nigerians.

Accusing and abusing the image of Nigeria is always an interesting story on the front page, but i don't think it can help matters neither can it afford Banki moon another tenor if he would continue to fight Nigeria instead of fighting against drug with necessary effort. Who is sure that they really care to stop drug: other than feigning effort to stop. How many percent of world money go into drug and how many go into Nigerian drug class of retailing. It is enough of Banki Moon taking advantage of of administrative frustration problem and economic crisis to insult the image of the highest black race in the world. Can it be said that Banki Moon is afraid of the real owner of drug heavy market . Or is he trying to adopt a measure that cannot feign him another tenor? He must be serious to face the fact if he is trying to renew effort to war against drug cos it is no longer news, the war has failed: drug biz is on the increase. I actually think that racism and unnecessary confidence/over emphasis on alleged trademark is why the war on drug had failed for the on-counted. If real war has to go on in drug there will be no need of calling names. That's not enough excuse for the failure to fight drug. To think that once it's highlighted everybody will be convinced and understand is false cognition..., a failure is a failure. We know our problem as Nigerians and it is no guarantee to direct any residue of failure anywhere in the world to Nigeria. Nigerians can no longer identify with this sort of insult cos the door is open to point at, and arrest any drug pusher anywhere in Nigeria and outside for anybody who cares. And nobody is with the nonsense. If they so much b/live that Nigerians are the the only problem and reason why the war on drug had failed, let them therefore, give Nigeria the commission to fight drug anywhere in the world. Drug farmers cannot even be traced in Nigeria or are the farmers also protected by Nigerian govt. Keep the report aside and fight drug indiscriminately. I personally think that drug war had not been successful cos it's not done indiscriminately, hence the recorded failure. NOT NIGERIAN OMNIPOTENCY AND OMNIPRESENCY.

Out from no where can anybody get Nigeria cos Nigerian stand on drug is very clear and drug dealer can be arrested anywhere. The right question is why did WAR ON DRUG RECORDED FAILED. Thanx for the nice tips. Some times, statistics are used as devices as in this case. Why did he not emphasize on the sniffers which has the propelling force with greater share of drug market MONEY but deems it so essential to bastardize the image of Nigeria among the whole world. On till drug war is taking serious and not political, it will continue to fail. It is a risk to face drug dealers squarely which Banki Moon and all the drug law enforcement agent should face squarely without discrimination, class, nor racism or else they should leave Nigeria alone. Nigeria is just being insulted for nothing KNOWING FULLY WELL THAT THE WAR HAS FAILED.
