In a troubling development, terrorists operating in Zamfara State, commonly referred to as bandits, have begun accepting ransoms through electronic bank transfers. Reports indicate that a recent transaction involved a ransom payment of N2 million made on October 3, 2024.
SaharaReporters has obtained a money transfer document showing that the funds were deposited into a Palmpay virtual bank account belonging to a suspect identified as Musa Muhammad, allegedly linked to bandit activities in the region. The payment occurred in the Shinkafi Local Government Area, a known hotspot for banditry.
Conflict journalist Bakatsine shared the details on social media, revealing that following the initial transfer, the bandits demanded additional millions to be delivered to a specified location. This alarming trend raises concerns about the evolving tactics of criminal groups in Nigeria, as they increasingly leverage technology to facilitate their operations and evade law enforcement.
