The peace of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital was yesterday ruptured as some thugs of the All Progressives Congress in the state allegedly attacked members of the Accord Party in Ibadan, shot at them and killed two on the spot.
According to Hon. Adeolu Adeleke, Director General of Ladoja Campaign Organization, in a release made available to New Telegraph yesterday evening, the Accord Party was having a rally of the House of Assembly and House of Representatives candidates, Honourables Ige and Gbenga Adewusi at Odinjo-Ode-Ige, Iyana Modina Area of Ibadan South-East Local Government when the incident happened.
Giving the name of one of the dead as Kehinde Akeem Bello, and that 15 other persons were seriously injured in the shooting, Adeleke said, “The thugs were carrying guns and other dangerous weapons when they stormed the campaign rally and opened fired on our supporters and killed two of them on the spot. Fifteen people sustained lethal gunshot injuries, while more unknown number of our supporters left with varying degrees of injuries.
“A team from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), who came to the scene arrested three of the APC thugs with pump action guns, while other members of the gang fled”, he said, disclosing to New Telegraph that Inspector Ismail led the team of the security outfit that made the arrest.
Confirming the incident, Wale Sadare, Director of Publicity and Strategy of the APC in the state said, “I have confirmed that Accord people were attacked while Arole who is going for House of Representatives was campaigning.
However, what happened was that some boys within the area engaged Arole’s men in superiority battle there. None of our members was there. We have warned them against such.
If they know those behind such they should mention names”, Sadare said denying APC’s culpability in the incident. Series of calls made to the mobile phone of Adekunle Ajisebutu, PRO, Oyo Police Command for confirmation, were not picked.
