The divorce case will be heard in camera this morning, Friday April 20 at an Accra Circuit Court, but the two have zipped their lips over the matter.
NEWS-ONE first broke the story of the impending divorce between the celebrated radio presenter and his wife in March this year in a report that suggested that families from both sides had agreed on the divorce after attempting in vain to save the marriage.
Fresh reports on the case suggest that for the past year, Abeiku and his wife have not enjoyed any form of segxwal intercourse though both of them stay in one house. What is not certain is whether they sleep together in one room.
Abeiku and Maggie got married on October 20, 2005 and the two have a daughter together. Sources have told NEWS-ONE that Abeiku asked for the divorce and Maggie agreed to it.
Maggie is also said to have agreed to dissolve the marriage and as part of her demands has asked for an amount of GH¢60,000 as payment of alimony, custody of the child, an upkeep and maintenance allowance and a reasonable share of Abeiku’s assets acquired during the marriage.
Maggie is also said to have demanded that house No 1 Tieso situated at Community 18 should be given to her.
When NEWS-ONE reached Abeiku over the matter, he said it was a “purely private matter”.
“When I was getting married to my wife, I did not seek the permission or consent of the public so I wonder why I need to explain anything about my marriage to the public,” Abeiku added.
Maggie, on her part, avoided the paper in its quest to speak with her over the divorce issue.
NEWS-ONE has however learnt that both families have held a series of meetings over the pending divorce and have agreed that since both man and wife want to separate, there is little or nothing that can be done about it.
“During the meetings, Abeiku and Maggie were very friendly and it is surprising that they say they are having constant misunderstandings over fundamental issues.
They are adults and we cannot decide for them,” a family source disclosed and said Abeiku and Maggie had only gone to the courts to officialise their separation.
For some months now, Abeiku’s ‘Ekwanso Dwodwo’ evening show has earned the largest radio audience in the capital city, especially with its newly-introduced segment, ‘People’s Court’.
During the show, almost every commercial driver within the city and most shops have their radio frequencies tuned to 107.1 and there is hardly any street or corner where Abeiku’s voice will not be heard blaring through radio speakers.
He simply hijacks the airwaves with the show.
Another segment of the ‘Ekwanso Dwodwo’ that has become the talk of town is the gossip segment known as ‘Akikakika’, where Abeiku uses innuendos to describe public figures and then broadcast jaw-dropping secrets about them.
Abeiku’s show has become very popular and a source of knowing the hottest gossips about celebrities, politicians and public figures.
Happy Day! Abeiku Santana and wife, Maggie
